EuroCity Zurich to Munich Trains Cancelled on Four Autumn Blocks

EuroCity trains between Zurich and Munich will not run the full route in four blocks this autumn: 5 to 11 October, 31 October to 5 November, 13 to 16 November and 25 to 29 November 2026. On those days all EC services between Lindau-Reutin and Munich are cancelled, with replacement buses for most of them, according to SBB’s international engineering works page.

The cancellations come from track work on the German side between Lindau, Memmingen, Buchloe and Munich. Trains still run between Zurich and Lindau-Reutin, and buses cover the rest of the trip to Munich’s central bus station at Hackerbrücke.

The same autumn brings other disruption on trains out of Switzerland, including a six-day closure of Austria’s Arlberg line in November. If you are skiing there this winter, see our report on Ski Arlberg lift pass prices for 2026/27.

At a Glance
  • No EC trains Lindau-Reutin to Munich: 5 to 11 October, 31 October to 5 November, 13 to 16 November and 25 to 29 November 2026.
  • Replacement: buses between Lindau-Reutin and Munich ZOB Hackerbrücke for most cancelled trains.
  • Extra cancellations: individual trains on several days around each block.
  • Slower schedule: Zurich to Munich journeys run about 10 minutes longer until 12 December.
  • Status date: SBB timetable changes page, read 24 September 2026.

Zurich to Munich EuroCity Cancellations by Date

4 to 12 October. Work between Buchloe and Munich. Some trains are cancelled on Sunday 4 and Monday 12 October, and all EC trains between Lindau-Reutin and Munich are cancelled from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October.

12 October to 6 November. Work between Lindau and Munich. From 12 to 30 October, EC trains leaving Munich run to amended timetables. Individual trains are cancelled on Saturday 17, Sunday 18, Tuesday 20 and Friday 30 October and Friday 6 November. All EC trains between Lindau-Reutin and Munich are cancelled from Saturday 31 October to Thursday 5 November.

12 to 17 November. Work between Memmingen and Munich. Individual trains are cancelled on Thursday 12 and Tuesday 17 November, and all EC trains between Lindau-Reutin and Munich are cancelled from Friday 13 to Monday 16 November.

24 November to 3 December. Work between Lindau-Reutin and Munich. Some trains are cancelled on Tuesday 24 and Monday 30 November and Thursday 3 December, and all EC trains between Lindau-Reutin and Munich are cancelled from Wednesday 25 to Sunday 29 November.

Replacement Buses to Munich ZOB Hackerbrücke

For most cancelled EC services, buses run between Lindau-Reutin and Munich’s central bus station, ZOB Hackerbrücke, SBB says. That is not Munich Hauptbahnhof, so allow time for the short onward trip if you are connecting to a train or the S-Bahn.

SBB’s wording says buses cover most, not all, cancelled services. Check the exact connection for your date in the SBB or DB journey planner before you travel, and allow for longer journey times by road.

Slower Zurich to Munich Timetable Until December

Even outside the closures, the route is slower than usual. From 7 February to 12 December 2026, EuroCity journeys from Zurich to Munich take around 10 minutes longer because of speed restrictions between Munich and Buchloe, and some trains from Munich leave a few minutes earlier, SBB says.

DB InfraGO, which manages the German track, said in August that not all of the speed restrictions could be removed by the end of October, so the slower timetable would stay in place until mid-December. It added that more work on the line from Munich towards the Allgäu was being planned for the rest of the year, according to its press release.

Other Rail Disruption From Switzerland This Autumn

The same SBB page lists other changes. The Arlberg line in Austria is closed from 18 to 23 November 2026. From 15 October to 12 December, travel times between Zurich and Salzburg are up to one hour longer, and most Railjet Xpress services start or end in Sargans.

Towards France, TGV services between Lausanne and Paris via Vallorbe are cancelled from 10 to 25 October, and all TGV services between Basel and Paris are cancelled on 14 and 15 November. Check each route in the journey planner if you are building a multi-country rail trip.
