Yellowstone National Park Lodges says paving of several loops at Lake Lodge Cabins is planned to start at 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and to last about two weeks if weather holds. The operator updated that notice on September 22 and said guests keep foot access to cabins while certain roadway sections inside the cabin area close from about 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each workday.
If you hold a Lake Lodge Cabins reservation in the next two weeks, the decision is when to move a vehicle, how to reach the cabin on foot, and how to time drives on the Grand Loop and Northeast Entrance Road. Use the Yellowstone National Park destination guide to place Lake Village against Old Faithful, Canyon, and the five entrance stations before you lock a driving day. The same lodging company also closed showers at Fishing Bridge RV Park from September 21 to September 27, 2026.
- Start: 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Lake Lodge Cabins.
- Duration: about two weeks from the start date, weather dependent, with daily reopenings after 5:00 p.m.
- Vehicle rule: guests must move cars out of active work areas during paving; foot access to cabins remains.
- Showers: Fishing Bridge RV Park showers closed September 21 to 27; Grant Village Camper Services is about 25 miles away.
- Roads: National Park Service lists up to 30 minute delays on Yellowstone River Bridge through November 2026.
Lake Lodge Cabins Paving Window Starts September 23
The lodging operator posted the Lake Lodge Cabin Area Paving alert with an explicit 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time start on September 23. It said the work covers several loops at Lake Lodge Cabins in late September and should run about two weeks from the start date if weather cooperates. If the start slips, the company said it will post a further update on the same alerts page.
Lake Lodge sits on the north shore of Yellowstone Lake, a short drive from Lake Village, Fishing Bridge, and Bridge Bay. Cabin guests typically park beside their unit, and that parking pattern is what the paving changes.
The operator said certain roadway sections inside the cabin area will close from about 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during operations, then reopen at the end of each workday. Housekeeping and guests still have foot access. Impacted cabins get advance notice, which is the binding list of which loops close on which day.
The National Park Service park roads page, last updated September 21, 2026, separately warns that scheduled road projects can change without notice.
Vehicle Move-Out Rules From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If your cabin loop is in the day’s paving zone, the vehicle must be out of that work area before crews occupy the pavement. Yellowstone National Park Lodges did not publish a remote lot name or a shuttle. Plan to park legally on a reopened loop, at a nearby day-use area that remains open, or along a signed public road that is not inside the closed section. Do not block emergency access or housekeeping carts.
Because paved sections reopen after 5:00 p.m., overnight parking beside the cabin can return each evening unless the next day’s notice says otherwise. Morning departures for geyser basins or the East Entrance should leave time to walk from a temporary parking spot back to the cabin. Afternoon returns should assume the loop is still closed until 5:00 p.m. If you need a car at the door for mobility, ask the front desk which loops are scheduled before you check in.
Compare lodging bases before you rebook. The where to stay in Yellowstone comparison lays out Lake, Canyon, Old Faithful, Mammoth, and gateway towns so you can judge whether two weeks of daytime vehicle limits at Lake Lodge Cabins is worth a move. A Canyon or Grant Village night puts you on a different road pattern and keeps a shower option if Fishing Bridge remains closed.
Fishing Bridge Showers Stay Closed Through September 27
On the same alerts page, Yellowstone National Park Lodges said shower facilities at Fishing Bridge RV Park are closed to guests from September 21 to September 27, 2026. That is the operator naming its own facility. Guests may use showers at Grant Village Camper Services, about 25 miles away, or at Old Faithful Lodge or Old Faithful Inn. Build that extra drive into a lake-area itinerary if you are in a cabin or an RV without a working shower of your own.
Road striping crews are also working in Yellowstone beginning Tuesday, September 22, to finish remaining striping for the season. Planned segments are Canyon Junction to Norris Junction, Norris Junction to Gibbon Meadows, and West Yellowstone to Madison Junction. Those are live work zones on the same days as the cabin paving window. Slow for crews, and do not treat a painted line as a new lane until the cones are gone.
Grand Loop and Entrance Road Delays Through November
Lake Lodge Cabins sit next to two construction jobs the National Park Service lists on its park roads page. Bridge Bay Bridge, in the Bridge Bay area, carries expected delays of up to 15 minutes from August 25 through November for bridge work. The lodging alerts page matches that window for Fishing Bridge to Bridge Bay Marina on the Grand Loop Road, with delays of up to 15 minutes through November 1, 2026.
Yellowstone River Bridge, on the Northeast Entrance Road just east of Tower Junction, is under paving. The Park Service expects delays of up to 30 minutes through November 2026. The lodging alerts page repeats that 30 minute figure and notes that traffic between the Northeast Entrance Gate and Tower Junction will be affected. If you are driving to or from Cooke City, add half an hour.
Dunraven Pass between Canyon Village and Tower Fall is separately projected to close October 12, 2026, which is the date in our Dunraven and Beartooth closing guide.
Gardner River High Bridge sits 0.5 miles southeast of Mammoth Hot Springs toward Tower Junction. The Park Service says traffic is reduced to a single lane with delays of up to 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, from April 13 through late October 2026. Vehicles over 8 feet 6 inches wide, over 75 feet long, or over 80,000 pounds gross cannot cross while barriers are in place.
The lodging page adds that the single lane is 10 feet wide with a signal through September 30, 2026, then returns to 12.5 feet, with a 15 mph limit.
Late September Driving Windows Across Yellowstone
The Park Service still lists East Entrance to Fishing Bridge (Sylvan Pass) and Canyon Village to Bridge Bay as open May 1 to October 31, 2026, unless weather intervenes. South Entrance to West Thumb and West Thumb to Lake Village are listed May 8 to October 31, 2026. A late September cabin stay is still inside the published wheeled-vehicle season at Lake, but those remaining days overlap paving, striping, and bridge delays. Check the live road status map and the (307) 344-2117 recorded line before you leave a parking lot.
Chip sealing continues parkwide in 2026 with delays of up to 30 minutes. Firehole River Bridge, 1.5 miles south of Old Faithful, is listed for up to 15 minute delays during October. Five full nighttime closures on Gardner River High Bridge, from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., were scheduled after September 7, 2026, with advance notice. Keep a paper map. Cell coverage around Yellowstone Lake is patchy.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Check in at Lake Lodge Cabins on or after September 23 | Ask which loops are in the next paving zone, move the car by 8:00 a.m., and keep a light for the walk back after 5:00 p.m. |
| Need a daytime vehicle at the cabin door | Request a loop that is not in the day’s work area, or shift the stay to Canyon, Grant Village, or a gateway town for those dates. |
| Need a shower while at Fishing Bridge or Lake | Use Grant Village Camper Services about 25 miles away, or Old Faithful Lodge or Old Faithful Inn, through September 27. |
| Drive the Northeast Entrance or Tower Junction | Add up to 30 minutes at Yellowstone River Bridge and 15 minutes at Gardner River High Bridge; skip oversized vehicles until barriers come off. |
September 23 at 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time is the paving start. Move the car out of the named loop before crews occupy the pavement, and keep foot access to the cabin.
September 27 is the last published shower-closure date at Fishing Bridge RV Park. Until then, budget the 25 mile drive to Grant Village Camper Services or use Old Faithful Lodge or Old Faithful Inn.
November 2026 is the listed end of Yellowstone River Bridge paving delays. Add up to 30 minutes on the Northeast Entrance Road until the Park Service clears that window.
