Yellowstone Grant Village Campground Closes Sept. 26

The National Park Service camping table for Yellowstone lists Grant Village Campground as open June 26 to Sept. 26, 2026, at $45 plus taxes for 429 sites. Park operating-dates rules say campgrounds close at 11 a.m. on the last listed day, which makes the night of Sept. 25 the last full night under that NPS line.

Yellowstone National Park Lodges, which still takes 2026 Grant Village reservations, posts operating dates of June 26, 2026, to Sept. 27, 2026, and warns that opening and closing dates can change. If you still need a south-lake tent or RV pad this week, confirm the last night with the concessioner before you drive, then compare remaining in-park bases in our Yellowstone lodging comparison.

At a Glance

  • Tower Fall: NPS lists May 22 to Sept. 27, 2026, at $20 for 31 Recreation.gov sites.
  • Still open: Madison, Lewis Lake, Slough Creek, and year-round Mammoth remain on the park table after this weekend.
  • Already closed: Bridge Bay closed Sept. 13, Indian Creek Sept. 14, and Canyon Sept. 19.

Grant Village Last Night Is This Week

The park’s Yellowstone operating dates page is the rule sheet for facilities and campgrounds. It says facilities close at the end of the last business day listed, except campgrounds, which close at 11 a.m. on that day. On the NPS camping table, Grant Village’s last day is Sept. 26.

That 11 a.m. line is easy to miss if you treat “Sept. 26” as a full last night. Under the park rule, checkout is morning on the listed date, so a traveler who booked only through the printed last day can arrive to find the loop shutting down before lunch. Call the reservation office and ask for the last night they will assign a site.

The concessioner’s Grant Village Campground page lists a one-day later end date of Sept. 27, 2026. Both pages say dates can change. Use the later concessioner date only after a live confirmation, not as a reason to ignore the NPS 11 a.m. rule.

Grant Village sits at about 7,800 feet on the southwest shore of Yellowstone Lake, a few miles from West Thumb Geyser Basin and a short hop from the South Entrance. The concessioner allows tents, RVs, ADA sites, and combination pads, with a 50-foot RV maximum. Comfort stations, flush toilets, dishwashing sinks, showers, and laundry are on loops, which is why this campground fills as a south-park base rather than a primitive overflow pad.

Tower Fall Closes a Day Later on Recreation.gov

NPS lists Tower Fall Campground as open May 22 to Sept. 27, 2026, at $20 for 31 sites. Those sites book on Recreation.gov’s Tower Fall page, not through Yellowstone National Park Lodges. The park table flags a hairpin curve and a 30-foot vehicle limit, with vault toilets and no showers.

Tower Fall is a different product from Grant Village. It is smaller, cheaper, and closer to Lamar Valley wildlife viewing and Roosevelt Lodge dining. If Grant Village is already full or shutting down, Tower Fall is the last low-cost NPS-listed option this week, not a substitute for 429-site lake loops with laundry.

Do not treat Tower Fall as a last-minute dump station for a 40-foot trailer. The park’s own notes on the camping table exist because oversize rigs have trouble on the Dunraven approach. Confirm your combined vehicle length before you leave the Madison or Canyon corridor.

Madison, Lewis Lake, and Slough Creek Stay Open

After Grant Village and Tower Fall go dark, the NPS camping table still shows Madison through Oct. 17, Lewis Lake through Oct. 11, Slough Creek through Oct. 12, and Mammoth year-round. Madison is a Yellowstone National Park Lodges campground. The concessioner lists Madison operating dates of May 1, 2026, to Oct. 18, 2026, again one day later than the NPS table.

Lewis Lake and Slough Creek book on Recreation.gov. Lewis Lake has a 25-foot total vehicle limit and potable water only from July 1 to Oct. 1, so a mid-October stay can mean vault toilets without spigots. Slough Creek sits at the end of a two-mile dirt road and is built for tents and small RVs, not Grant Village-scale combinations.

Mammoth remains the winter-capable frontcountry campground, with reservations required in the warm season and first-come sites only in the Oct. 15 to April 1 window on the park camping page. If you are stretching a fall trip past the Grant Village close, Madison is the remaining large concessioner campground with flush toilets and a dump station. Lewis Lake and Slough Creek are the remaining Recreation.gov primitive options.

How to Read the 11 a.m. Close Rule

Yellowstone splits camping into two booking systems in 2026. Yellowstone National Park Lodges still takes Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant Village, Madison, and Fishing Bridge RV Park for this season. Recreation.gov takes Indian Creek, Lewis Lake, Mammoth, Slough Creek, and Tower Fall. That split is why a Grant Village traveler cannot “just rec.gov it” this week.

The park already told readers that five concessioner campgrounds move onto Recreation.gov for summer 2027, with a six-month booking window. Deep Arrival covered that 2027 Recreation.gov camping shift as a separate planning story. This week’s decision is the 2026 last night, not next year’s platform.

When the two official calendars disagree by a day, treat the NPS 11 a.m. close as the conservative checkout and ask the concessioner whether they will still assign a site for the night of Sept. 26. Do not show up on Sept. 27 expecting an unpublished extra night. Opening and closing dates remain weather-dependent on both pages.

Lodge Rooms Outlast the Campground

Grant Village lodging is a separate calendar from the campground. NPS operating dates list Grant Village Lodge lodging through Oct. 10, the dining room through Oct. 11, and the visitor center through Oct. 3. A traveler who loses the campground this weekend can still sleep in a Grant Village room into early October if rooms remain.

That split matters for South Entrance itineraries. Campers who used Grant Village as a cheap lake base cannot assume the lodge desk will take overflow tents. Lodge guests should not assume the campground showers stay open for them after the campground’s last morning. Book the product you will actually use.

Bridge Bay, Canyon, and Indian Creek are already closed on the NPS table, so the south and central camping map is thinner than it was two weeks ago. If your dates are Oct. 1 or later, skip Grant Village camping entirely and start with Madison, Mammoth, or a lodge. Interior roads still have later seasonal gates, which is a different planning problem from this campground close.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Hold a Grant Village site through Sept. 25 Plan on an 11 a.m. NPS checkout on Sept. 26 unless the concessioner confirms a later night.
Need a south-lake pad on Sept. 26 or 27 Call Yellowstone National Park Lodges and ask which night is the last assigned night before you drive.
Can fit a 30-foot or shorter rig near Tower Check Recreation.gov for Tower Fall through Sept. 27, then Madison if that loop is gone.
Need flush toilets after this weekend Look at Madison (NPS through Oct. 17) or Mammoth, not Grant Village or Tower Fall.
Want Grant Village after Sept. 27 Switch to lodge rooms through Oct. 10 or leave the south lake for Madison or Lewis Lake.
Planning Impact

Sept. 26 is the NPS Grant Village campground last day. Treat 11 a.m. as checkout unless you have a same-day confirmation from Yellowstone National Park Lodges.

Sept. 27 is the NPS Tower Fall last day and the concessioner’s printed Grant Village end date. Confirm which calendar your booking actually uses before you roll north from Grand Teton.

Oct. 11 to Oct. 18 is the remaining large-campground window. Lewis Lake, Slough Creek, and Madison close in that stretch, while Mammoth continues.
