Widerøe Ends Bergen Flights to Dublin, Hamburg and Munich in October

Widerøe is ending its international flights from Bergen to Dublin, Hamburg, Munich and Brussels after the summer 2026 schedule. Travel-Dealz reported that the last Hamburg and Munich flights operate on October 24, 2026, and German aviation site Aerotelegraph reported that the routes will not return in summer 2027. The Norwegian regional airline says it is moving aircraft to routes with stronger demand.

If you planned to reach Norway’s fjord country through Dublin or a German city this winter or next summer, check your booking now and look at connections through larger hubs instead. Travelers with tickets after the final flights should contact Widerøe or their travel agent, and anyone searching new trips can check current routes on the Widerøe Bergen destination page.

If Bergen is still on your list, our guide to things to do in Bergen covers the city’s main sights and how to plan a visit.

  • Summer 2027: routes not returning, per Aerotelegraph.
  • Reason: Widerøe says it wants to strengthen profitability.
  • Growing: more Bergen flights to Trondheim and Stavanger.

Which Widerøe Routes From Bergen Are Ending

Bergen newspaper Bergensavisen reported on September 2 that Widerøe will stop flying from Bergen to Munich, Hamburg, Brussels and Dublin once the summer 2026 program ends. Press chief Eline Hyggen Skari told the paper the airline is making the change to strengthen profitability, moving capacity away from weaker routes toward destinations with stronger demand and revenue potential.

Travel-Dealz reported that the final Hamburg and Munich flights operate on October 24, 2026, and that Widerøe cited a lack of route profitability. Both routes were launched in 2018, suspended during the pandemic in 2020, resumed in 2023 and flown year round since 2024. With the German routes gone, Travel-Dealz said winter nonstop flights from Germany to Bergen fall from four routes to two, operated by Lufthansa from Frankfurt and Norwegian from Berlin.

Aerotelegraph reported that the Brussels and Dublin routes end at the same time as the German ones, at the end of October, and that none of the four is planned for summer 2027.

What Else Changes at Bergen Airport

The cuts are part of a wider reshuffle at Bergen. According to Bergensavisen, Widerøe is also reducing frequencies on its international routes from Bergen to Gothenburg and Billund, and on domestic routes to Haugesund and Molde. At the same time it is adding flights between Bergen and Trondheim, to nine daily round trips, and between Bergen and Stavanger, to 11 daily round trips.

For visitors, that means domestic links along the Norwegian coast get stronger while direct links from smaller European cities get weaker. Travelers heading to the fjords from North America have typically connected through a larger hub rather than flying Widerøe’s international routes, but the change removes useful options for anyone combining a trip to Ireland or Germany with western Norway.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Hold a ticket after October 24 Contact Widerøe or your agent now.
Planned Dublin to Bergen next summer Price connections via a larger hub.
Fly from Germany to Bergen Check Lufthansa from Frankfurt.
Travel within western Norway Look at added Trondheim and Stavanger flights.

How to Reach Bergen After the Cuts

Bergen remains well connected. Once the Widerøe routes end, travelers from Ireland, Belgium and southern Germany will need to connect, most often through Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam or Frankfurt. Compare total journey time and connection length, not just fares, since winter weather can disrupt tight connections in northern Europe. If you are booking separate tickets, leave extra time between flights, because a missed connection on a separate booking is usually your own responsibility.

If your flight is cancelled, rules based on the EU passenger rights regulation apply to flights from Norway, so you can usually choose between a refund and rerouting. Ask the airline in writing for the option you want and keep any receipts. If you booked through an agency or tour operator, contact them first, since they manage the ticket. Check whether any hotel, ferry or fjord tour bookings need to move if your arrival day changes.

Other Norway Travel Disruptions

Norway has seen other disruptions this year, including the air traffic control action we covered in our story on Norway’s ATC strike and Oslo and Bergen flight delays. Rail travelers were hit too, as we reported in our story on Vy’s eastern Norway rail walkout.
