Volotea will station an Airbus A320 at Montpellier Mediterranee Airport from autumn 2026 and open four new routes in the first week of November, the airline said in a December 19, 2025 press notice that remains the operator’s current statement of the plan. Bordeaux and Madrid start on November 6, Lanzarote on November 7, and Tenerife South on November 8, with tickets listed for sale on Volotea’s site.
If you are flying to or from eastern Occitanie this winter, those four dates are the booking gates, not a vague “autumn” window. Pair the airline notice with the Deep Arrival airlines hub when you compare frequencies, then check the live timetable before you pay, because a later fleet cut has not withdrawn these Montpellier departures in any Volotea correction we can find.
- Base: One Airbus A320 at Montpellier Mediterranee from autumn 2026, Volotea’s 11th French base and 20th in Europe.
- November 6: Bordeaux twice weekly (Friday and Sunday) and Madrid twice weekly (Monday and Friday).
- November 7 to 8: Lanzarote Saturdays from November 7; Tenerife South Sundays from November 8.
- Existing map: Eight routes already run from Montpellier, including Ajaccio, Brest, Caen, Lille, Nantes, Rennes, Strasbourg and Menorca.
- Status check: Volotea has not posted a withdrawal of these four routes after its September fleet-cut plan.
Four November Routes From Montpellier
The press notice names the aircraft, the base count, and the four city pairs with weekday patterns. Carlos Munoz, Volotea’s founder and chief executive, called Montpellier the airline’s fourth Occitanie base after Toulouse, Rodez and Lourdes. Emmanuel Brehmer, chairman of Montpellier Mediterranee Airport’s executive board, said the first based aircraft would let the airport launch those four destinations.
The only dates Volotea attached to specific cities are November 6, 7 and 8, 2026. A 2027 comment about thickening other routes is a planning note, not a bookable schedule. The airline said it has been in Montpellier since 2012 and in 2025 ran eight routes with more than 370,000 seats. Buy the city pair, not the job count attached to the base.
Bordeaux Timetables Published by the Airport
Bordeaux Airport still publishes the November 6 launch on its own site and sends buyers to Volotea to complete the ticket. That is the independent confirmation of the France-to-France pair, including clock times the airline press notice omitted.
Friday flights leave Bordeaux at 9:30 p.m. and arrive in Montpellier at 10:45 p.m. Sunday flights leave Bordeaux at 9:15 p.m. and arrive at 10:30 p.m. Both Montpellier-to-Bordeaux returns leave at 3:15 p.m. and arrive at 4:30 p.m. Those are evening and midafternoon banks, useful for a long weekend and awkward if you need a morning meeting in either city on the same day.
Two weekly frequencies is a thin link. Miss Friday and you wait until Sunday. Miss Sunday and the next Volotea Bordeaux seat is the following Friday. Keep a rail backup in mind for the domestic pair: the TGV already connects the two cities, so this route is a time trade, not the only way across. If Volotea later trims a day, the airport page is the first place to re-read, then the airline booking path.
Madrid and Canary Islands Weekly Pattern
Madrid is the other November 6 start: Mondays and Fridays, two flights a week. That is the only Spanish mainland city in the new set, and it is the pair that skips a one-stop through Paris or Barcelona for travelers already in eastern Occitanie.
Lanzarote follows on Saturday, November 7, once a week. Tenerife South follows on Sunday, November 8, once a week. If you need a midweek Tenerife arrival, this schedule does not give it. Volotea did not publish clock times for Madrid or the Canary Islands in the December notice, so pull those from the booking engine before you lock a transfer or a villa.
The four cities sit on top of eight routes Volotea already lists from Montpellier, including Menorca. Do not assume a Menorca fare rule or bag allowance will match Tenerife or Lanzarote. Read the fare family on the ticket you buy.
What the Based A320 Changes for Travelers
A based aircraft can cover an early outbound and a late inbound that a tag flight from another city cannot. It does not guarantee the flight if the single A320 is delayed, in maintenance, or pulled for a charter. Build a same-day pad on the Canary Islands returns, where the next Volotea frequency is a week later.
If you are connecting to a long-haul partner, Montpellier is not a hub. Buy a separate ticket only if you can absorb a miss. For a U.S. traveler, the Madrid and Canary Islands flights are local hops after you are already in southern France. They do not add a transatlantic arrival.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Need Bordeaux on a weekend | Book Friday or Sunday from November 6. Confirm the 3:15 p.m. Montpellier return and the late Bordeaux inbound on the Bordeaux Airport notice. |
| Need Madrid without a hub connection | Target Monday or Friday from November 6, then read the live Volotea clock times. Two days a week is the whole pattern. |
| Want a Canary Islands week in winter | Lanzarote is Saturday from November 7. Tenerife South is Sunday from November 8. There is no midweek Volotea backup on those islands from Montpellier. |
| Already hold a Volotea Montpellier ticket on the eight older routes | Those cities are unchanged by this notice. Re-check only if a later schedule dump drops a day. |
November 6, 2026 is the first departure date. Bordeaux and Madrid open that day. If you need those cities in the first week of November, buy before the remaining seats on two-weekly patterns disappear.
November 7 and 8, 2026 are the Canary Islands starts. Saturday is Lanzarote. Sunday is Tenerife South. Align hotel nights with those weekdays or you will carry an extra island night you did not plan.
Autumn 2026 is the base, not a second ticket window. The A320 arriving on the field supports the four routes. It is not a separate product you can book.
Fleet Cuts Leave These Dates Intact
In late September 2026 Volotea said it would cut the fleet toward 30 to 35 jets while keeping flights operating, a plan Deep Arrival already covered in the fleet-cut report. Trade coverage of that restructuring described a one-aircraft winter base at Montpellier as part of the remaining map. That is network reporting, not a Volotea cancellation of November 6 to 8.
Until the airline posts a new notice or the booking engine drops the four city pairs, the dated offer stands. Buy a fare you can change, and avoid same-day connections onto a second carrier on the weekly island returns. If a November timetable later drops a Friday Bordeaux or a Sunday Tenerife, change the hotel or switch to rail. Do not treat a missing day as proof the whole base is dead.
