Universal Studios Japan Holiday Wonders: Plan Three Dates

Universal Studios Japan has dated its winter season. Universal Holiday Wonders runs 13 November 2026 to 17 January 2027, according to the park’s own release issued on 14 September.

The season headline is a single 66 day window, but the things people travel for do not all run inside it. Three different end dates sit underneath that one date range, and a family booking flights to Osaka can pick a week that misses the part they came for. The Universal Studios Japan calendar is worth reading closely before anything is booked.

At a Glance
  • Season: 13 November 2026 to 17 January 2027, 66 days.
  • Christmas night shows: 25 November to 11 January only, 48 days.
  • Holiday Kids Free Pass: 13 November to 30 December only, from 8,400 yen including tax.
  • Night show seating: special viewing area tickets from 1,700 yen including tax, on top of admission.
  • Running the full season: the Hogwarts winter projection and the Universal Food Festival.

Three End Dates Inside One Season

The season opens on Friday 13 November and closes on Sunday 17 January. That is the number the marketing leads with, and it is the least useful one for planning.

The two Christmas night shows at Gramercy Park, Light Up the Night and Joy of Lights, run 25 November to 11 January. The first twelve days of the season and the last six days have neither of them.

The Holiday Kids Free Pass runs 13 November to 30 December. It covers the opening stretch the night shows miss, then stops eighteen days before the season does.

The Booking Trap This Creates

A trip in the week of 16 November gets the free child admission and no Christmas night show. A trip in the week of 12 January gets neither the pass nor the shows, on a full price ticket.

The overlap that carries everything is 25 November to 30 December. Outside those 36 days a visitor is choosing which of the two headline offers to give up.

Reading the Yen Figures

The Kids Free Pass starts at 8,400 yen including tax and admits one child free with a paying adult. Universal publishes it as a starting price, so a peak December date will cost more than a mid November weekday.

The night show viewing tickets are separate again. Universal lists special viewing area seating from 1,700 yen including tax, charged on top of park admission, and the shows themselves are otherwise included with entry.

What Runs the Whole Way Through

Two things do span the full season. The Hogwarts Magical Night winter projection plays at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter for about ten minutes a showing, from 13 November through 17 January.

The Universal Food Festival also runs the full window, across park restaurants and carts. WDW News Today, reporting the same release, adds a Power of Rock holiday show, a Minion meet and greet and a Hogwarts Castle Walk through 17 January.

What Universal Has Not Published

Show times are absent from the release, which matters for the 30 minute Gramercy Park show more than for a 10 minute projection. Park operating hours for the season are not given either.

There are also no published blackout dates for the Kids Free Pass beyond its 30 December end, and no currency other than yen. Treat every figure here as a tax inclusive floor rather than a fixed fare.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Want the Christmas night shows and the child discount Book inside 25 November to 30 December. That overlap is 36 days.
Are travelling in mid November Expect the Hogwarts projection and the food festival, not the Gramercy Park night shows.
Are travelling after 11 January The night shows are finished. Only the Hogwarts projection and the festival remain, to 17 January.
Have one child and one adult Price the Kids Free Pass from 8,400 yen against two separate tickets on your date.
Want guaranteed night show seating Budget the viewing area ticket from 1,700 yen on top of admission, and watch for show times.
Planning Impact

25 November starts the Christmas night shows. Anything booked earlier in the season will not include them.

30 December ends the Kids Free Pass. Trips from 31 December pay full child admission.

11 January ends the night shows and 17 January ends the season. The last six days are the thinnest week of the window.
