Universal Orlando’s official park hours page now lists three dated ride closures for early 2027. Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is posted as closed from January 4 to February 2, Fyre Drill from January 25 to February 4, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey from February 8 to February 19.
If you are booking Universal Orlando for January or February 2027, those three windows should drive which park you visit on which day. Start with the current Epic Universe operating picture, then lock park days around the posted closures rather than around a generic crowd calendar.
- Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges: Closed January 4 to February 2, 2027 at Islands of Adventure.
- Fyre Drill: Closed January 25 to February 4, 2027 at Epic Universe.
- Forbidden Journey: Closed February 8 to February 19, 2027 at Islands of Adventure.
- Source: Universal Orlando park hours page, Temporary Closures list, checked September 7, 2026.
- Next step: Do not stack a Harry Potter Hogsmeade day on February 8 to 19 if Forbidden Journey is a must-do.
Three Closures Are Now on Universal’s Hours Page
The dates are not a rumor thread. They sit on Universal Orlando’s Theme Park Hours page under Temporary Closures, the same list the resort uses for current operating hours. AllEars.net reported the same three 2027 windows on September 4, matching the official listing ride for ride and date for date.
That matters because Universal does not send a press release every time a refurbishment hits the calendar. Guests who only watch social posts can miss a January raft ride, an Epic Universe boat, and a Hogsmeade headliner until they are already holding tickets. The hours page is the document to screenshot before you pay for park days or Express Pass.
The three closures cluster in a six-week stretch from January 4 to February 19, 2027. Islands of Adventure carries two of them in sequence. Epic Universe carries the third in the middle of that window. A single two-park or three-park ticket still works. The park-day order does not.
Islands of Adventure Loses Two Headliners in Sequence
Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is a Toon Lagoon river raft ride that soaks riders on purpose. Universal lists it closed from January 4 to February 2, 2027. That is a 30-day winter outage, which is the usual season for a water ride that would otherwise run cold in Central Florida.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is the larger planning problem. Universal lists the Hogsmeade castle ride closed from February 8 to February 19, 2027. That is 12 days, and it sits immediately after the Popeye window. A guest who visits Islands of Adventure in the second week of February can find both the raft ride and the castle ride offline depending on the exact date.
Forbidden Journey is the ride inside Hogwarts Castle in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure. Hogsmeade itself, Flight of the Hippogriff, and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure are not on this Temporary Closures list. Do not treat the whole land as closed. Do treat the castle ride as missing if your trip falls on February 8 to 19.
If Harry Potter is the reason you bought the ticket, move the Islands of Adventure day off that February window, or shift the Potter time to Universal Studios Florida, where Gringotts in Diagon Alley is a different ride on a different calendar. The hours page does not list a matching Gringotts outage for those February dates.
Fyre Drill Goes Dark at Epic Universe
Fyre Drill is the interactive boat ride in How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk, at Epic Universe. Universal lists it closed from January 25 to February 4, 2027. That is 11 days, and it overlaps the last week of the Popeye closure.
A family that planned Epic Universe as the “new park” day in late January now has a hole in Isle of Berk. Dragon Racer’s Rally, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders, and the rest of Berk are not named on the same Temporary Closures list. The Untrainable Dragon show is listed separately for September 15 to 20, 2026, which is a different window and a different trip.
Fyre Drill is a water-cannon boat, so a late-January refurbishment is operationally ordinary. It is still a dated traveler decision. If that ride is on a child’s must-do list, do not put Epic Universe on January 25 to February 4. Put it before January 25 or after February 4, then keep Islands of Adventure off the February 8 to 19 Forbidden Journey gap.
Park-Day Order Beats a Generic Crowd Calendar
The useful move is not to cancel the trip. It is to stop stacking the wrong park on the wrong week. A January 4 to February 2 Islands of Adventure day loses the raft ride. A January 25 to February 4 Epic Universe day loses Fyre Drill. A February 8 to 19 Islands of Adventure day loses Forbidden Journey. Those three statements are enough to rebuild a three-day ticket.
One clean sequence for a guest who wants all three rides: Epic Universe before January 25, Islands of Adventure before January 4 or after February 19, and Universal Studios Florida on any remaining day. That order also keeps Hogsmeade’s castle ride on the itinerary. Guests buying one-day Universal Orlando tickets have less slack. They should pick the park that still has their must-do ride on that exact date.
Express Pass planning follows the same calendar. Paying for skip-the-line access on a day when the target ride is closed is a wasted add-on. Confirm the Temporary Closures list again the week you travel. Universal’s hours page states that parks, attractions, and entertainment can close for refurbishing, capacity, weather, or special events without notice.
What the Hours Page Does Not Promise
Universal has not published a reason beyond the Temporary Closures listing, and it has not promised that the dates will hold. Refurbishment calendars move. A ride can return early, run late, or pick up a second outage that is not on the page today. The current listing is the planning baseline, not a construction contract.
The same page also lists longer, already-known work, including Jurassic Park River Adventure through November 19, 2026. That is a separate stream from the three early-2027 dates. Do not fold it into this itinerary as if it were new. Use it only as proof that this hours page is where Universal posts the closures that actually change a park day.
AllEars.net’s September 4 report is independent confirmation of the same three 2027 windows, not a second official calendar. If the hours page and the specialist report ever diverge, the Universal page wins. Check it again before you lock hotel extra nights around a single ride.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Need Forbidden Journey | Keep Islands of Adventure off February 8 to 19, 2027, or use Diagon Alley at Studios instead. |
| Need Fyre Drill | Schedule Epic Universe before January 25 or after February 4, 2027. |
| Need Popeye rafts | Keep Islands of Adventure off January 4 to February 2, 2027. |
| Hold a three-park ticket | Put Studios on the closed Islands or Epic day rather than skipping the resort. |
January 4, 2027 is the Popeye start date. Keep Islands of Adventure off January 4 to February 2 if the raft ride is on the list.
January 25, 2027 is the Fyre Drill start date. Keep Epic Universe off January 25 to February 4 if the Berk boat is a must-do.
February 8, 2027 is the Forbidden Journey start date. Keep Islands of Adventure off February 8 to 19 if the castle ride is the reason you bought the ticket.
