United Airlines is offering Delta SkyMiles and American AAdvantage elite members a match to United MileagePlus Premier status, and applications close on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Members who are approved get matching Premier status for 90 days, and can keep it through January 31, 2028, by spending between $1,500 and $7,000 on United in that window, depending on the tier.
If you hold Delta or American status and fly United often enough to hit the spending target in three months, apply before October 15 and plan your United trips before you start the clock. The offer is for US residents with earned or lifetime status, and only base fares and carrier imposed surcharges count toward the spend, according to Live and Let’s Fly.
Our United Airlines guide covers baggage rules, boarding and the MileagePlus tiers.

United Status Match Spending Targets by Tier
According to Live and Let’s Fly, approved members get United Premier status matching their current tier for an initial 90 day period. To keep that status through January 31, 2028, they must spend $1,500 for Premier Silver, $3,000 for Premier Gold, $4,500 for Premier Platinum or $7,000 for Premier 1K during the challenge. Tickets must be bought and flown within the 90 day window.
Members who complete the challenge also get PlusPoints, United’s upgrade currency: 20 for Premier Platinum and 100 for Premier 1K, the same report said. Applicants must show proof of current Delta or American elite status, and temporary or trial status from those programs does not qualify.
United’s Starlink Pitch to Delta and American Flyers
United is selling the match on Wi-Fi. Skift reported that the campaign’s tagline is “Don’t keep buffering: switch to United and get the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky,” and that United has Starlink on more than 600 aircraft, with plans to reach 1,000 by the end of the year.
Skift said Delta chose Amazon Leo for its future in flight connectivity, while American plans to install Starlink on about 500 narrowbody aircraft starting in 2027 and is running its own status match campaign. For frequent flyers, that makes Wi-Fi one more factor to weigh alongside schedules, hubs and upgrade chances.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Hold Delta or American status | Apply by October 15 if United fits. |
| Fly United only now and then | Check you can reach the spend first. |
| Want Premier 1K | Plan $7,000 of United fares in 90 days. |
| Rely on in flight Wi-Fi | Compare each airline’s rollout plans. |
Elite status with United brings benefits such as free checked bags, priority boarding, better seat choices and complimentary upgrades on eligible flights, with higher tiers getting earlier upgrade windows. Those perks matter most on the routes you fly most, so look at where United’s hubs sit relative to your home airport before you commit three months of spending to the challenge.
Is the Match Worth It for You?
A status match is most useful if you live near a United hub or fly routes where United is the strongest choice. The 90 day clock means you need to have real trips to take, since spending targets are based on fares rather than miles flown. If your trips are spread through the year, the higher tiers may be hard to reach in time, and missing the target means the status lapses after the trial.
Think about timing before you apply. If approval starts the 90 day window soon after you sign up, make sure your heaviest travel falls inside it. Holiday trips booked now for late November or December could count if they are flown within the window. Keep receipts and check your MileagePlus account for progress, and read the full terms on United’s site before you register, since status match offers often have one time limits.
Matching does not cancel your existing Delta or American status, so you can test United without giving up what you have. The real cost is concentrating your spending on one airline for three months.
