United Starts Daily Newark Seoul Flights Sept. 4

United Airlines will begin daily nonstop flights from Newark Liberty International Airport to Seoul Incheon International Airport on September 4, 2026, the carrier said in its Summer 2026 schedule. The year-round service uses a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and, United says, makes it the only U.S. airline with a nonstop between the New York and Newark area and South Korea.

Northeast travelers who have been connecting over San Francisco, Atlanta, Dallas, or John F. Kennedy International Airport now have a United-metal hop from Terminal C. Tickets have been on sale since the October 2025 announcement, and current schedule files still show that September 4 start. What United confirmed for Newark to Seoul

The load-bearing fact is a dated route start, not a rumor about extra Asia flying. In its October 9, 2025 newsroom release, United said daily flights from Newark and New York to Seoul begin September 4 on a Boeing 787-9 and build on existing twice-daily San Francisco to Incheon service.

The same release said the new flights were subject to government approval and were already for sale on United.com and in the United app. Independent schedule databases now list the pair as an operating September 4 launch, which is the traveler decision this week.

How the first flights are scheduled to operate

United did not publish clock times in that newsroom note. Independent schedule analysis by Simple Flying, using Cirium Diio data, shows a daily Newark departure at 10:35 a.m. arriving Incheon at 3:20 p.m. the next calendar day, about 15 hours and 45 minutes westbound.

The return is listed at 5:15 p.m. from Incheon, arriving Newark at 6:00 p.m. the same calendar day after about 13 hours and 45 minutes. Public timetable files place the westbound flight in Terminal C at Newark and Terminal 1 at Incheon. Treat those clocks as the current filed pattern, and recheck the United app the week you fly because long-haul times can still move.

Simple Flying describes the aircraft as United's 257-seat 787-9, with 48 Polaris seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 21 Premium Plus recliners, 39 Economy Plus seats, and 149 standard economy seats. The same report says the lower-density 222-seat 787-9 with the newest Polaris cabin is not assigned to this route in the current file.

How this compares with JFK and Air Premia

United is not creating the first Newark to Seoul nonstop. South Korea's Air Premia already flies the airport pair daily on its own 787-9, and Korean Air and Asiana Airlines still serve Incheon from JFK. United's claim is specific: it is the only U.S. airline offering a Northeast nonstop to Seoul, which matters for MileagePlus credit, Polaris, and a single-ticket connection over Terminal C.

Simple Flying's booking data for the 12 months through June 2026 counted about 179,000 round-trip passengers between Newark and Incheon, with Incheon as Newark's largest East Asia market. Average base fares on the Newark pair were about $650 each way in that dataset, less than half the $1,145 average on JFK to Incheon, because Air Premia's lower fares pull the Newark mean down. Who should book Newark, and who should use another gate

The highest-value customer is a New Jersey or New York traveler who wants one plane to Seoul without crossing to JFK. Terminal C is United's Newark hub, so a morning 10:35 a.m. departure can collect connections from Boston, Washington, Toronto, Orlando, and other East Coast cities if the inbound lands with enough time.

Simple Flying, using OAG Connections Analysis, estimated about 35 behind-gateway cities could feed the new flight with no more than a four-hour Newark wait, led by Toronto, Atlanta, the Washington area, Chicago, and Boston. Several of those cities already have their own Seoul nonstops on other airlines, so a backtrack through Newark only pays if the United fare or cabin is better than the local nonstop. United Economy on many Asia routes includes two free checked bags, which is a different policy from the domestic bag fees that dominate short U.S. tickets. Polaris is the cabin that makes this route a MileagePlus event. Forty-eight lie-flat seats on a daytime westbound departure mean some passengers will try to sleep against the clock, while Premium Plus is the middle-cabin option if Polaris saver space is gone. Inbound connections at Incheon also matter more than they did last year.
