United Starts Newark Charlottesville Flights September 24

United Express GoJet CRJ-550 regional jet on approach, the aircraft type scheduled for daily Newark to Charlottesville flights

United Express starts daily nonstop flights between Newark Liberty International Airport and Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport on September 24, 2026, part of a four-route regional add from United’s New York-area hub. The Points Guy reported that United confirmed the package in July. The same day also restores Newark flights to Knoxville, Northwest Arkansas, and Omaha on regional jets.

For Central Virginia travelers, this is a new way to reach Newark’s domestic and international bank without driving to Dulles or connecting through Chicago. Compare the airports in Deep Arrival’s closest airport to Charlottesville guide before you lock a fare, then check United.com for the September 24 schedules, which are already in the booking engine.

At a Glance
  • Start: September 24, 2026, for all four Newark routes.
  • Charlottesville: Daily GoJet CRJ550, about 50 seats, first EWR-CHO nonstop since 2012.
  • Also that day: Twice-daily Knoxville; daily Northwest Arkansas and Omaha.
  • Aircraft: CRJ550 on Charlottesville and Knoxville; Republic E175 on XNA and Omaha.
  • Action: Book if you need Newark connections; Delta and American already cover CHO-LaGuardia.

Charlottesville Gets a Daily Newark Bank

Simple Flying, using schedule data, lists the Charlottesville pair as UA4414 leaving Newark at 12:52 p.m. and arriving at 2:12 p.m., then UA4168 leaving Charlottesville at 2:53 p.m. and returning at 4:13 p.m. The hop is about 251 nautical miles. GoJet will fly a three-class, 50-seat CRJ550, the same United Express type already common at Dulles and Chicago.

United already serves Charlottesville from O’Hare and Dulles. The Newark flight is the missing New York-area spoke. TPG called it an all-new Newark route for the airline. Simple Flying notes the last EWR-CHO service ended in 2012. Department of Transportation figures cited by Simple Flying show 82,330 local passengers between Charlottesville and Greater New York in the 12 months to April 2026, almost all of them on Delta Connection and American Eagle nonstops to LaGuardia. United is selling connectivity through Newark, not a dogfight for the LaGuardia local market. Charlottesville Albemarle Airport posted the same September 24 start on its own channels in July and said tickets were already on United.com.

If the trip is the town rather than the hub, Deep Arrival’s things to do in Charlottesville list covers Monticello, the university, and the Blue Ridge access that sits about 30 minutes from the airport.

Three Restored Cities Join the Same Launch Day

Knoxville’s McGhee Tyson Airport gets twice-daily CRJ550s, also on GoJet. United last ran regular Newark-Knoxville service in 2020. Northwest Arkansas National Airport, the Bentonville and Fayetteville gateway, gets a daily Republic E175. That link last operated in 2022. Omaha Eppley Airfield also gets a daily Republic E175, last on a regular Newark schedule in 2020.

Simple Flying says later-season block times put Northwest Arkansas at about 3 hours 41 minutes from Newark, a little longer than Omaha. All four cities already have some Greater New York service on other airlines. What they have not had is a one-stop path onto United’s Newark international bank. That is the product: a 50- or 76-seat jet into a hub that feeds Europe, the Caribbean, and the rest of the domestic map. Bentonville remains the Walmart headquarters market, which is why XNA shows up in United’s corporate and leisure mix even when the local New York nonstop already exists on another carrier. Omaha and Knoxville are the same idea: restore the Star Alliance feed, not invent a brand-new city pair.

United’s Newark operation is also adding long-haul flying this month, including the new daily Seoul nonstop that started September 4. The regional four-pack is the domestic counterpart: small cities feeding that same bank. See Deep Arrival’s United Newark Seoul launch for the long-haul side of the same hub story.

Who Should Book and Who Can Ignore It

Book these flights if you live near CHO, TYS, XNA, or OMA and you actually need United’s Newark connections, Star Alliance partners, or a one-ticket itinerary to Europe. Book them if you are starting in New York and want a same-airline hop to Charlottesville without the LaGuardia-to-CHO carriers. Do not assume the CRJ550 is a widebody substitute. It is a 50-seat regional jet with a first-class cabin, not a mainline 737.

Skip them if your destination is Manhattan and you already like Delta or American to LaGuardia from Charlottesville. Those remain the local nonstop. Skip them if you are connecting at Dulles anyway. United’s IAD-CHO shuttle already covers Washington. Harrisonburg and Staunton travelers should still compare Shenandoah Regional and Dulles in Deep Arrival’s closest airport to Harrisonburg page before driving to CHO for a single Newark departure. A one-a-day CRJ550 is easy to miss if a thunderstorm holds the inbound at Newark, so a same-day backup on the LaGuardia carriers is still the conservative plan for a wedding or a Monday meeting.

Schedule Reality for the First Weeks

A midday Newark arrival and a midafternoon return is a connecting bank, not an all-day New York city break. You will not land at 9 a.m. and walk Midtown by 10. You will land after lunch and either connect or take a long transfer into the city. Treat the product as a hub feed first. If you need a full New York day from Charlottesville, keep the LaGuardia nonstops and use Newark only when the international or Star Alliance ticket requires it. Fares on the new spoke will move in the first two weeks as United tests load on a 50-seat jet, so a hold-for-a-cheaper-week strategy only works if your dates are flexible past Labor Day weekend.

GoJet CRJ550s and Republic E175s are also the aircraft most exposed to crew, maintenance, and Newark ground delays. Build a longer connection than you would on a mainline 737, especially if the next segment is an evening transatlantic. United’s own Newark performance has improved in 2026, but a 50-seat inbound still sits in the same taxi queue as the widebodies.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Live near Charlottesville and need Europe or a United international ticket Use the September 24 EWR flight as a same-airline feed. Do not expect a morning Manhattan arrival.
Only need New York City from CHO Keep comparing Delta and American to LaGuardia. Those remain the local nonstops.
Are in Knoxville, Northwest Arkansas, or Omaha Treat September 24 as the restore date for Newark, then check frequencies before you give up an existing carrier.
Are connecting to a long-haul at Newark Pad the connection. The inbound is a 50- or 76-seat regional jet into a busy hub.
Planning Impact

September 24, 2026 is the first flight date. All four Newark routes are scheduled to start that day. Fares are already for sale on United.com.

The midday CHO bank is the connection gate. UA4414 arrives Newark at 2:12 p.m. Plan the next segment after that, not before it.

LaGuardia remains the local New York gate. Do not cancel a working CHO-LGA ticket only because United added Newark.

Frequently Asked

When do United flights from Newark to Charlottesville start?

September 24, 2026. United Express plans a daily CRJ550 round trip, with UA4414 leaving Newark at 12:52 p.m. and UA4168 leaving Charlottesville at 2:53 p.m., according to schedule data reported by Simple Flying.

Which other United Newark routes start the same day?

Knoxville twice daily, plus daily flights to Northwest Arkansas National Airport and Omaha. Those three restore service United dropped in 2020 or 2022.

Is this a mainline United jet?

No. Charlottesville and Knoxville are GoJet CRJ550s with about 50 seats. Northwest Arkansas and Omaha are Republic E175s. All fly as United Express.

Should I still fly Charlottesville to LaGuardia?

Yes, if New York City is the destination. Delta Connection and American Eagle already carry most CHO-New York local traffic to LaGuardia. Use Newark when you need United’s hub or a one-ticket international itinerary.
