One Phoenix to Las Vegas Basic cash fare around $136 was shown at 3,000 points, a redemption value well above the outlet’s then-current Rapid Rewards valuation. A Sacramento to Honolulu example around $279 cash was shown at 10,000 points.
Those examples are reporting snapshots, not a guarantee that the same city pair will remain at that price through Aug. 31. Use them as a method: open the same dates in points view, then decide whether the redemption beats paying cash or waiting.

If the pass is active, one paid award seat can cover a companion under Southwest’s usual Companion Pass rules, which can multiply the effective value of a cheap points ticket. After you find a candidate, pause before transferring points. Transfers into Rapid Rewards are generally not reversible. Ticket the flight only after the points land and the award still prices at the expected amount.
If the trip is a short West Coast hop, keep destination plans simple. A discounted Phoenix to Las Vegas award pairs cleanly with an already flexible weekend in Las Vegas.
