Skytrax Best Lounges 2026: Chase LaGuardia Wins, Check Your Access

The Chase Sapphire Lounge at New York LaGuardia is the world’s best independent airport lounge for 2026, according to Skytrax. New York took three of the top six places, with Capital One’s lounge at JFK fifth and the American Express Centurion Lounge at JFK sixth. Plaza Premium lounges at Rome Fiumicino and London Heathrow Terminal 4 came second and fourth.

For travelers, the list is most useful as a guide to which paid or card access lounges are worth planning around, not as a guarantee. One lounge in the top three has been reported closed, and access to the New York card lounges depends on which credit card you hold. Check the lounge operator or your card issuer for current entry rules before you plan a long layover around a lounge.

Skytrax 2026 Top 10 Independent Airport Lounges

Skytrax’s 2026 ranking of independent lounges, meaning lounges not run by an airline, places them in this order: Chase Sapphire Lounge at LaGuardia; Plaza Premium at Rome Fiumicino; Chase Sapphire Lounge at Hong Kong; Plaza Premium at London Heathrow Terminal 4; Capital One at JFK; American Express Centurion at JFK; Coral Cosmo Lounge at Bangkok; The Pearl at Bahrain; Primeclass Lounge at Muscat; and Plaza Premium at Dubai.

Skytrax also ranked lounge groups. Plaza Premium Group came first, followed by TAV Primeclass, Chase Sapphire Lounges, Capital One Lounges and Coral Lounge Group. Skytrax says the results come from its global passenger satisfaction survey.

Europe’s Best Lounges on the List

Euronews reported that the Rome Fiumicino Plaza Premium lounge ranked first in Europe and that the Heathrow Terminal 4 lounge was the only other European entry in the top 10. Further down the top 20, it listed the Vienna Lounge at Vienna International in 12th, the iGA Lounge at Istanbul Airport in 17th and Airport Lounge World at Munich Terminal 1 in 18th.

Plaza Premium Group chief executive Song Hoi See said being named the best lounge group for a tenth consecutive year was an honour for the company. Time Out London reported that the Heathrow Terminal 4 lounge offers a complimentary buffet, self serve drinks, a meditation room, Wi-Fi and showers.

Criticism of the Skytrax Rankings

Not everyone agrees with the list. View from the Wing wrote that the Chase Sapphire Lounge in Hong Kong ranked third even though it closed more than nine months ago, and that its space now houses a different lounge and a Mastercard dining concept. The site also argued that Capital One’s LaGuardia lounge is better than the winner, and criticized Skytrax for not publishing its underlying data, sample sizes or weighting.

The practical point for travelers is to treat any ranking as a starting place. Before you plan a layover around a lounge, check that it is open, where it sits relative to your gate, what it costs to enter and whether it limits entry at busy times.

How Lounge Access Works at the Top New York Lounges

The three New York lounges in the top six are tied to credit cards. Chase Sapphire Lounges are aimed at Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders, Capital One Lounges at Capital One Venture X cardholders and Centurion Lounges at American Express Platinum and Centurion members. Each issuer sets its own rules for guests and entry times, and those rules change often, so check the issuer’s current terms before you travel.
