The Port of Seattle said on September 10, 2026, that SEA Spot Saver, the free timed-entry tool for general TSA screening at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, will end on November 30, 2026. Reservations booked through November 29 will still be honored at TSA Checkpoint 4, according to the airport’s Spot Saver page.
If you fly out of Sea-Tac before that cutoff, you can still reserve a slot up to five days ahead. After November 30, general screening means the standard checkpoint line. FOX 13 Seattle independently confirmed the same sunset date. Travelers using Sea-Tac as the jump-off for the Olympics should treat the airport change as part of the same trip plan as our guide to the closest airport to Olympic National Park.
- Cutoff: SEA Spot Saver ends November 30, 2026.
- Last bookings: Reservations through November 29 remain valid at TSA Checkpoint 4.
- Hours now: 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, 240 to 60 minutes before departure.
- Why: Checkpoint 1 and redesigned Checkpoint 6, opened in 2025, now get more than 94 percent of travelers through in 20 minutes or less.
- After the cutoff: Use standard TSA lines and live wait times on signage, the flySEA app, or the airport site.
Port of Seattle Sets a Hard November 30 Cutoff
Spot Saver launched in 2021 as a temporary way to meter general screening while the airport, ranked 11th busiest in the country and compact compared with larger hubs, worked through longer waits. The Port now says the tool has done its job. New Checkpoint 1 and a rebuilt Checkpoint 6 opened in 2025 under the UpgradeSEA program, adding lanes and processing capacity.
The airport’s own FAQ is unusually blunt: because lines move well, fewer people use the reservation. Many travelers arrive, see an open lane, and skip the appointment. That is the outcome planners wanted. FOX 13 Seattle quoted the same explanation, including the 94 percent figure for screening without a reservation.
This is not a TSA rule change. It is a Port of Seattle product sunset for a local virtual queue. Trusted Traveler lanes are separate. SEA Spot Saver was built for general screening passengers, the group with the highest demand. That distinction matters if you already carry PreCheck or CLEAR.
How Spot Saver Still Works Through November 29
Until the cutoff, the mechanics stay the same. Sign up online up to five days before departure or at the airport. Enter airline, destination, flight number, party size, and contact details. Go to Checkpoint 4 at the appointment time, show the confirmation, and enter screening. You can add the appointment to Apple Pay or Google Wallet.
Slots run from 240 to 60 minutes before scheduled departure, daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Flights outside those hours cannot be booked. The Port says morning slots from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. still sell out when volume is high, so book early if you want the last weeks of the program. Connecting passengers who stay airside do not need it, because they do not reclear TSA unless they leave the secure area.
If you are also timing a cruise transfer, pair the checkpoint plan with our Seattle cruise port to SEA airport transit guide. A reservation only helps if you can reach Checkpoint 4 at the assigned minute. Traffic, parking, and the light-rail walk still sit in front of that clock.
Standard Lines After the Cutoff Replace the Queue Tool
On November 30 the reservation product goes away. After that date, every general screening passenger uses the ordinary TSA line. The Port points people to live wait times on terminal digital signs, the free flySEA app, and the checkpoint wait times page. Those tools remain after Spot Saver ends. They are the replacement, not a new queue product.
Airport officials have not said whether a similar virtual queue will return for later holiday peaks. Do not plan on a seasonal revival unless the Port publishes one. For the rest of 2026, the operating assumption is standard lines plus wait-time data. If you used Spot Saver as a psychological buffer, replace it with an earlier arrival, not a phantom appointment.
Sea-Tac is still running other airfield work that can change the day, including a center runway closure through November 15. That project does not replace screening rules, but it can shift delay patterns on the same calendar as the Spot Saver sunset. Build slack for both.
PreCheck, CLEAR, and General Screening Stay Separate
Spot Saver never replaced TSA PreCheck. The Port tells PreCheck passengers to use dedicated PreCheck checkpoints so they keep the usual benefits, including leaving shoes and electronics in place when the lane allows it. CLEAR customers should use the CLEAR lane. Members of those programs could still book Spot Saver if they wanted, but they then followed general screening rules and lost the expedited treatment.
After November 30 that optional crossover disappears with the product. PreCheck and CLEAR continue on their own infrastructure. If you have been using Spot Saver because you do not have a Known Traveler Number, the remaining path is the standard line, or enrolling in PreCheck on the usual five-year timeline. Do not expect a last-minute airport workaround that recreates timed entry.
For a wider look at reservation-style TSA tools, our earlier explainer on how to reserve a free TSA security time slot still describes the national pattern. The Sea-Tac news is narrower: one airport is retiring its local version because the rebuilt checkpoints now absorb the load.
Peak Travel Days Need a New Buffer, Not a Slot
Thanksgiving week and the late-December rush will be the first holidays without Spot Saver. Arrive earlier, watch live waits, and pick an open lane. The Port’s 20-minute average is not a guarantee on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. If you overnight before a dawn departure, a hotel near the airport or downtown light rail matters more than a vanished QR code. Our Seattle stay areas compared layout is the next click for that overnight.
Groups of up to 10 could share one Spot Saver booking. After November 30, keep the group in one standard lane. Assign one person to watch the flySEA wait board while others handle bags.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Depart Sea-Tac on or before November 29 | You may still book Spot Saver up to five days ahead; honor it at Checkpoint 4 between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m. |
| Depart on or after November 30 | Use the standard TSA line and check live waits on signage, flySEA, or the airport wait-times page. |
| Have TSA PreCheck or CLEAR | Stay in those dedicated lanes. Spot Saver was a general-screening tool, not a substitute for trusted-traveler benefits. |
| Connect at Sea-Tac without leaving the secure area | You do not reclear TSA and do not need Spot Saver now or after the cutoff. |
November 29 is the last reservation date. Bookings made through that day remain valid at Checkpoint 4. Do not assume a November 30 morning slot will exist.
November 30 is the shutdown. From that date, general screening is the ordinary line only. Add time at the curb and watch live waits instead of hunting a QR code.
Holiday weeks are the first stress test. Thanksgiving and late December will run without timed entry. Arrive earlier than you did with Spot Saver, even if the Port’s 20-minute average holds on quieter days.
When does Sea-Tac Spot Saver actually end?
The Port of Seattle says SEA Spot Saver will no longer be available starting November 30, 2026. Reservations booked through November 29 will still be honored at TSA Checkpoint 4.
Can I still reserve a Spot Saver slot this fall?
Yes, through November 29. Appointments are offered daily from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., 240 to 60 minutes before departure, and can be booked up to five days ahead or at the airport.
Why is the airport dropping a free queue tool?
Checkpoint 1 and redesigned Checkpoint 6 opened in 2025 under UpgradeSEA. The Port says more than 94 percent of travelers now clear general screening in 20 minutes or less, so fewer people use the reservation.
Does this change TSA PreCheck at Sea-Tac?
No. Spot Saver served general screening. PreCheck and CLEAR keep their dedicated lanes. After November 30, general screening passengers simply join the standard line.
