Quark Expeditions has replaced its flat Shackleton Club with a three-tier loyalty ladder that pays more as guests come back. The operator’s Shackleton Club page now lists Silver after one completed expedition, Gold after two, and Platinum after three or more, with offboard booking offers that start at $750 and rise to $1,250.
The program is live, not a future teaser. Repeat polar travelers should check which tier they already sit in before they book the next Arctic or Antarctic departure, because the onboard $1,500 window, cabin-upgrade clocks, and adventure-option discounts do not all start on the first repeat. Anyone comparing ships, landing days, and route fit can start with Deep Arrival’s Antarctica expedition cruise guide.
- Change: Shackleton Club is now Silver, Gold, and Platinum instead of one benefit set for every past guest.
- Eligibility: Silver after one Quark expedition, Gold after two, Platinum after three or more.
- Money: Offboard offers are $750, $1,000, and $1,250; a $1,500 onboard offer is available for 14 days after disembarkation at every tier.
- Status: The operator says the enhanced club is live on its loyalty page.
- Watch: Offboard and onboard offers are not combinable; Platinum adds a 150-day free rebooking rule.
Silver, Gold, and Platinum Now Split the Old Flat Club
Until this rewrite, Shackleton Club treated every past guest the same once they stepped off the ship. Travel Market Report said that single stack is gone. The new design is a ladder: each completed Quark expedition moves the guest up a named tier with a thicker set of credits, upgrade rights, and discounts.
President Sam Seward framed the change as a way to keep first-time polar guests coming back with benefits that grow with the next booking. That is the traveler decision. If you have already sailed once, you are not looking at a generic past-guest coupon. You are looking at a specific Silver, Gold, or Platinum file, and the difference is hundreds of dollars plus earlier cabin moves.
Quark still markets the club to every returning guest, including people who have only one voyage on the books. First-time bookers do not enter the ladder until they complete that first expedition. The useful check is the completed-voyage count, not the year you first inquired.
The Dollar Offers Rise With Each Completed Voyage
The operator page puts cash on the table in U.S. dollars, with pre-converted amounts also listed for pounds, Canadian dollars, euros, and Australian dollars. Silver, Gold, and Platinum all get a $1,500 onboard offer if the next expedition is booked within 14 days of disembarkation. That clock is the same at every tier. Miss it, and the offboard offer is the one that remains.
Offboard savings are $750 at Silver, $1,000 at Gold, and $1,250 at Platinum when the guest books any later expedition. Those offboard offers are not combinable with the onboard $1,500. A guest who books on the ship during the 14-day window should not expect to stack the larger onboard credit on top of the offboard coupon.
Shipboard credit also steps up: $150 at Silver, $200 at Gold, and $250 at Platinum, usable for spa time, adventure options, laundry, and the gift shop. A $250 referral bonus sits on all three tiers when a referred guest completes a booking. Early access to new seasons, expeditions, promotions, and offers is listed for every tier.
Cabin Upgrades and Rebooking Are the Quiet Platinum Levers
The money is the headline. The operational perks are why Platinum is not just another $250. Silver and Gold may request a cabin upgrade if one is available within 90 days of departure. Platinum’s window opens at 150 days. On polar ships with a few dozen suites, that extra two months is often the difference between a sold-out category and a leftover cabin.
Gold adds a 25 percent discount on an adventure option. Platinum raises that to 50 percent and adds a 25 percent discount on one expedition extension. Those percentages apply to add-ons that already cost real money on a Quark voyage, such as kayaking, camping, or a pre- or post-trip land package.
Platinum also lists a free rebooking policy if the request is made at least 150 days before departure, with the new voyage required within one calendar year of the original departure date. That is a planning tool, not a last-week escape hatch. Guests inside 150 days should not assume the same flexibility.
How Past Guests Should Use the New Tiers
If you just stepped off a Quark ship, the 14-day onboard $1,500 window is the first decision. Book the next polar departure while that offer is live if the dates already work. If they do not, let it expire and use the offboard amount that matches your new tier instead of trying to combine both.
If you sailed years ago and never rebooked, start by confirming that the operator still counts that voyage toward Silver. Then price the offboard $750 against whatever public early-booking bonus is on the same departure. Loyalty credits that cannot stack with a bigger public sale are not automatic wins.
Travelers still choosing a first polar voyage should read the club as a second-trip product, not a reason to pick Quark on day one. Deep Arrival’s earlier note on Quark’s earliest Arctic and Antarctic booking windows is the chronology for season timing; this ladder is the repeat-guest overlay on those same dates. The broader cruise planning hub is the place to keep line-by-line inventory in view.
The Offers Do Not Replace a Public Fare Check
Quark says the enhanced club is live now. It has not published a sunset date. Treat the current table as the working rules until the operator page changes. Do not assume a travel advisor can override the no-stacking rule between onboard and offboard offers, and do not assume a cabin upgrade is guaranteed just because the clock has opened.
Adventure-option discounts apply to one option on the voyage at Gold and Platinum, not to every extra on the manifest. Extension discounts at Platinum are listed as one extension spot. Guests building a South Georgia or Falklands add-on should ask which named package counts before they pay a deposit.
The fleet on the water today is Ultramarine, Ocean Explorer, and World Voyager. The loyalty math is line-wide, not ship-specific. A Silver guest on a Peninsula fly-cruise and a Platinum guest on a longer circuit are reading the same dollar table; only the completed-voyage count changes the row.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Just completed your first Quark expedition | You are Silver. Use the 14-day $1,500 onboard window if the next dates work; otherwise keep the $750 offboard offer for a later booking. |
| Have two completed Quark expeditions | You are Gold. Price the $1,000 offboard offer plus the 25 percent adventure-option discount against any public sale on the same departure. |
| Have three or more completed expeditions | You are Platinum. Check the 150-day upgrade and free-rebooking clocks before you lock a nonrefundable air ticket. |
| Have never sailed with Quark | Book the first voyage on its own merits. Club benefits start after that trip is complete, not at deposit. |
The live club page is the gate. Quark says the three-tier Shackleton Club is already in force. Confirm your completed-voyage count there before you pay a deposit on the next polar departure.
14 days after disembarkation is the onboard-offer gate. The $1,500 onboard booking credit expires then and does not stack with the offboard coupon.
90 days and 150 days before departure are the upgrade gates. Silver and Gold wait until 90 days; Platinum can request a move at 150 days if a cabin is actually open.
When does the new Quark Expeditions Shackleton Club start?
The operator says the updated three-tier club is live now on its Shackleton Club page. There is no separate future launch date in the current posting.
How many Quark expeditions do I need for each tier?
Silver is for guests who have completed one expedition, Gold is two, and Platinum is three or more. Count finished voyages, not inquiries or deposits.
Can I combine the $1,500 onboard offer with the offboard discount?
No. Quark says the offboard offer is not combinable with the onboard offer. Choose the 14-day onboard $1,500 or the tier’s offboard amount, not both.
Does Platinum let me change a voyage for free?
Platinum lists a free rebooking if the request is made at least 150 days before departure, and the new trip must fall within one calendar year of the original departure date. Inside that 150-day window, the published rule does not apply.
