Princess Cruises passengers sailing from Los Angeles on or after September 20, 2026, are being brought into the line’s Arrival Groups system, which assigns a terminal check-in window. Arriving early will not generally get you inside sooner: the operator says early guests may leave luggage but will be asked to return at their assigned time.
The current rollout date comes from Princess’s participating-port table, not a claim that the entire system is new this month. Deep Arrival’s Los Angeles cruise port guide identifies the World Cruise Center in San Pedro as distinct from the Long Beach terminal. Use the berth and address in your cruise documents when matching your transfer to the new window.
- Los Angeles start: Cruises departing on or after September 20, 2026.
- Selection: Typically opens 30 days before embarkation, in the Princess Cruises app.
- No selection: Princess assigns a group 24 hours before embarkation.
- Early arrival: Luggage drop-off may be possible, but terminal entry waits for the assigned window.
- Exceptions: Full Suites and Sanctuary Collection guests need not follow assigned times; Princess Transfers follow their transfer schedule.
September 20 Is the Los Angeles Rollout Date
The official Arrival Groups and Boarding Guide lists Los Angeles for departures on or after September 20. It places the city within a phased rollout that already includes other ports, rather than announcing a universal rule taking effect everywhere on that Sunday.
For an eligible Los Angeles sailing, the immediate action is to check the app and the email instructions Princess sends before the trip. The operator says guests must either select a group or have one assigned. Doing nothing does not remove the arrival-window requirement.
TravelHost’s Come Cruise With Me covered the system in April, explaining the app-based selection and automatic assignment as Princess prepared its earlier U.S. rollout. That report corroborates the process; the current official port table supplies the September 20 Los Angeles date.
The distinction matters for repeat cruisers. A previous Princess embarkation experience at another port, or before the Los Angeles implementation date, is not a reliable reason to disregard the window shown for this sailing.
Choose the Group in the App, Not on the Website
Princess says selection is available exclusively through its app. Open Arrival Groups, select the travel party, choose an available time and save it. A checkmark confirms the assigned group, and the window appears on the boarding pass and in the app’s Arrival Groups section.
The FAQ says selection typically opens 30 days before embarkation. For a September 20 departure, that window is already relevant now; passengers should check their own sailing rather than wait until the night before to see which times remain.
There are two assignment situations in the guidance. Completing the OceanReady Travel Checklist early can lead to an assignment aligned with recorded travel plans just before selection opens. Separately, if no selection is made, the line says a group will be assigned 24 hours before embarkation.
An assigned group can be changed in the app after selection opens, subject to available space. Princess does not promise that a preferred early time will remain open, so the practical choice is among the slots actually offered for that booking.
Travel Parties and Premium Accommodations Have Specific Rules
If someone in a travel party has already chosen a group, Princess says the other party members can select that same group even when it appears full. That is a stated provision for traveling together, not a general workaround for obtaining any sold-out time.
Guests in Full Suites or the Sanctuary Collection are not required to follow assigned arrival times. The line says those guests receive a gold-colored boarding pass with instructions for their embarkation experience.
Passengers using Princess Transfers are accommodated according to their transfer schedule. That wording refers to the cruise line’s transfer arrangement; it should not be extended to every independently booked shuttle, taxi or rideshare.
Accessibility needs are handled differently from the accommodation exception. The official guide says guests with accessibility requirements follow their assigned Arrival Group, with dedicated assistance and accessible lanes available at the terminal. Needing assistance does not automatically exempt a passenger from the window.
Early Luggage Drop-Off Does Not Mean Early Terminal Entry
Princess asks guests to arrive within their assigned window. Its enforcement explanation says an early passenger may drop off luggage but will be asked to return at the designated time before entering the terminal.
That creates a useful distinction when arranging transportation: having a driver reach the port early is not the same as having access to a terminal waiting area. Match the journey to the assigned window and the actual berth instructions, rather than assuming there is an indoor place to wait.
The Arrival Group is also not a substitute for the sailing’s final check-in or boarding requirements. Use the cruise documents for those deadlines. The rollout page does not establish one universal last-boarding time for every Los Angeles departure.
Save the Boarding Pass Before Reaching the Port
The line recommends adding the boarding pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, or taking a screenshot before arrival, so it remains available without an internet connection. Its guide lists digital-wallet support in Princess app version 1.9 or later.
If the pass is unavailable on arrival, Princess says the terminal team can help verify the assigned group. Assistance with finding the booking does not mean the window has been waived, so saving the pass beforehand remains the simpler route.
| Your Situation | What the Published Rule Says |
|---|---|
| Ordinary eligible Los Angeles booking | Select an available app window or use the assigned group. |
| Travel party already has a group | Choose that same group through the party provision, even if it appears full. |
| Full Suite or Sanctuary Collection | Follow the gold boarding pass instructions; assigned times are not required. |
| Accessibility assistance needed | Keep the assigned window and use the dedicated terminal assistance. |
Before September 20 departures: Check whether the sailing’s Arrival Groups section is available and coordinate the selected time with your party and transportation.
Twenty-four hours before embarkation: Recheck the assigned group if you made no selection, then save the boarding pass for offline use. Port-arrival times are local to Los Angeles.
