Norwegian Cruise Line’s 2026 season announcement said Escape would call Boston for the first time on a late-August New York Canada and New England sailing, making it the first Breakaway Plus-class ship to visit the city. The same release named Portland, Maine; Saint John, New Brunswick; and Halifax, Nova Scotia, as the other ports on that opening week.
Independent sailing calendars now show that first week as a Saturday, August 29, 2026, seven-night New York roundtrip. Cruise Timetables lists New York departure at 10 p.m. on August 29, Boston on August 31 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Portland on September 1, Saint John on September 2, Halifax on September 3, and a Saturday, September 5, return to New York.
The 2024 season release used an August 28 embarkation date. Current retail calendars use August 29. Trust the live Massport Monday and the current booking itinerary.
A port of call is a daytime visit. Guests already on the ship get off, walk into the Seaport, and must be back before the ship leaves. Nobody starts a new cruise on Escape in Boston that Monday, and nobody ends one there.
How to sail on the first Boston call
If you want to be onboard for the first Escape visit, shop a New York cruise, not a Boston embarkation.

Escape is a different class and a different job. Breakaway is the older, smaller Boston workhorse. That extra size is why NCL can sell the first Boston call as a milestone. It is also why the ship is coming in from New York instead of taking over Breakaway’s Sunday pattern.
On Sunday, August 30, Massport still lists Breakaway on a seven-day Boston-to-Halifax roundtrip. On Monday, August 31, Escape arrives as a visitor. Those are two different ships, two different traveler jobs, and two different days. Mix them up and you either miss your New York embarkation or stand at Flynn on the wrong morning with a suitcase and no cruise to join.
That distinction changes the day. A Breakaway Sunday is an embarkation machine with parking reservations and assigned boarding windows. An Escape port day is a city day for people already sailing, plus a harbor-watching day for anyone on shore.

On a port day, match your Seaport time to the published call, not a two-hour homeport boarding window. Independent calendars currently show an 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Boston window for August 31, but Massport’s public table does not print those hours, so treat them as a planning estimate until the line or the port restates them.
