Malaysia Airlines Adds SNCF Rail Connections Across France

Malaysia Airlines has added SNCF Voyageurs rail segments from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to 28 destinations across France under its MHrail program. Tickets became available through the airline on July 10, letting passengers place a Malaysia Airlines flight and an eligible French train connection within one itinerary instead of buying the two journeys separately.

The new arrangement uses SNCF Voyageurs’ Train + Air product and the AccesRail booking code 9B. It extends the airline beyond its Paris gateway to cities including Lyon, Strasbourg, Rennes, Lille and Marseille, but passengers still need to retrieve train documents, move their own baggage and allow enough time to reach the airport rail station.

What Malaysia Airlines added in France

The Malaysia Airlines release describes the change as a codeshare with SNCF Voyageurs, France’s national passenger rail operator. Malaysia Airlines places its marketing code on eligible SNCF services, while AccesRail supplies the 9B code and the technical connection between airline reservation systems and the rail inventory.

That distinction matters because the rail segment is treated as part of an air itinerary, not simply as a separate train ticket bought after the flight. Malaysia Airlines says the combined booking coordinates the connection and simplifies the transfer, while the passenger sees the flight and rail journey together when selecting an eligible French destination.

Independent reporting by TTG Asia confirmed that tickets were live through the airline from July 10. The outlet also confirmed the 28 destination scope and identified Lyon, Strasbourg, Rennes, Lille and Marseille among the cities available beyond Paris.

This is an expansion of MHrail rather than a new Malaysia Airlines flight route. The carrier already uses rail partnerships to extend journeys beyond airports in the United Kingdom and South Korea, and the French agreement adds another country where an airline itinerary can include a surface connection.

The 28 French rail destinations in the launch network

The launch list covers major regional cities as well as several high speed rail stations that sit outside a city center. Travelers should select the exact station that matches their ground plan, because Lyon Part Dieu and Lyon Saint Exupéry, for example, serve different locations and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The specific departure time and connection offered will depend on the travel date and what the Malaysia Airlines booking system returns. A city appearing on the partnership list does not mean every Malaysia Airlines arrival connects to every train, so the complete itinerary shown before payment remains the authority for the passenger’s trip.

Some rail station names need extra attention. Lille Europe and Lille Flandres are separate stations, Montpellier has two listed stations, and Nîmes appears both as the city station and Nîmes Pont du Gard, so travelers should compare the arrival point with their hotel, onward transport or pickup plan before confirming.

How to reach the train at Charles de Gaulle

AccesRail’s current SNCF product guide places the airport rail station between Terminal 2C, 2D, 2E and 2F. Passengers arriving at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 can use the free CDGVAL airport shuttle, while airport buses connect other Terminal 2 areas with the station complex.

An arriving Malaysia Airlines passenger must first complete the normal arrival process, including immigration when applicable and baggage collection. Checked bags do not transfer automatically to SNCF, so the traveler carries every bag from the airport into the rail station and remains responsible for luggage throughout the train trip.

Passengers must also retrieve the actual rail travel document rather than assuming the airline confirmation alone will open the train gate. The AccesRail guide says check in begins 72 hours before departure and uses the passenger name plus either the booking reference or the 13 digit ticket number.

The itinerary should provide enough connection time, but travelers still need to account for immigration queues, baggage delivery and the walk or shuttle to Terminal 2. Anyone traveling with mobility equipment or needing station assistance should arrange that support through the booking airline in advance, because the rail provider requires the airline to transmit the assistance request.

What one booking changes and what it does not

The practical advantage is connection protection inside one eligible itinerary. AccesRail says a customer receives a seat on the next available flight or train at no extra cost when a booked segment is delayed or cancelled, while SNCF Voyageurs describes that protection as a core feature of Train + Air.

That protection should not be confused with through checked baggage. The traveler still collects bags at Charles de Gaulle after the Malaysia Airlines flight, takes them to the station, keeps them during the rail trip and follows SNCF luggage limits for the train segment.

The AccesRail guide lists up to two pieces per person measuring no more than 70 by 90 by 50 centimeters, plus one smaller item up to 40 by 30 by 15 centimeters. Passengers should compare those limits with the airline allowance, because a bag accepted on the flight can still be awkward or noncompliant on the rail portion.

Refunds, changes, child fares and cabin class remain subject to the rules attached to the combined ticket. Travelers should make any modification through Malaysia Airlines or the agency that issued the itinerary, rather than changing the rail segment independently and risking a break in the protected connection.

Who benefits most from the new option

The product is most useful for someone flying into Paris but ending the journey in a French regional city that has an eligible direct rail connection. It can remove a separate booking step and give the traveler one issuing contact when a disruption affects either part of the combined trip.

It may be less useful when the final address sits far from the listed station, the available train creates a long airport wait, or a separate ticket offers a better schedule. The right comparison is the full door to door journey, including the airport transfer, station location, baggage handling and the value of connection protection.
