Magic Mountain Closes to Public for Out on the Mountain August 21

Six Flags Magic Mountain will close to the general public at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, for Out on the Mountain, the park’s annual private LGBTQ community party that runs until midnight.

If you want that night, buy an Out on the Mountain ticket online before you arrive. Season passes, memberships, and regular day tickets are not accepted after the public close.

What Six Flags and the organizers confirmed

The official Six Flags Magic Mountain event page lists Out on the Mountain for Friday, August 21, 2026, from 6 p.m. to midnight. It states that the entire park closes to the general public at 6 p.m. and belongs to ticket holders until midnight.

Tickets are sold only through outonthemountain.com, not at the gate. Every ticket includes free parking for the full day. Tickets are also valid for daytime park entry when gates open at 10:30 a.m., so one purchase can cover daytime rides and the private evening.

Six Flags notes that event wristbands, distributed at the park on the day of the event, must be worn during private party hours. There are no exceptions. That is the mechanical difference between holding a paper day ticket and staying after the public close.

The same official page highlights major coasters such as WONDER WOMAN Flight of Courage, Goliath, Twisted Colossus, and Tatsu as part of the night, plus dance stages and live performances. Marketing language is not a guaranteed ride roster. Treat any named coaster as expected rather than locked.

Ticket prices, VIP value, and the pass trap

The organizer site lists limited general admission tickets at $74 and VIP packages at $160. Both must be purchased online in advance. The Out on the Mountain FAQ is explicit that season passes, memberships, and regular Six Flags tickets are not accepted for the private party.

That rule is the main traveler decision. A Gold membership or season pass that works for ordinary Fridays does not replace the event ticket after 6 p.m. Our earlier coverage of the Magic Mountain Gold membership offer remains useful for regular park access, but it is a different product from this private night.

VIP at $160 includes the event ticket, a gold wristband for front-of-line ride access from 6 p.m. to midnight, VIP reserved parking, and $25 in Six Flags bucks for food, alcohol, drinks, and concessions with no change returned. VIP packages ordered by August 10 at 9 p.m. PT were scheduled for mail delivery. Later VIP orders are held at will call before the security checkpoint.

General admission tickets may be printed or shown on a phone. One free parking pass is included per order. If your group needs more parking passes than orders, buy separate orders rather than expecting extra free parking stickers at the booth.

Refunds are not available under the long-standing Six Flags no-refund policy described on the FAQ, except when the park closes for the entire day under standard procedures. If your plans change, plan to transfer the ticket rather than request a refund.

How the day and night actually flow

Public park hours on the ticket run from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Private party hours run from 6 p.m. to midnight. Guests who arrive early should collect the event wristband at the Pride table before the gate so re-entry after 6 p.m. is smooth.

Wristbands are available after the security checkpoint and before the gate entrance. Wear the wristband all night. Staff will treat the private party as a closed event, not as a soft extension of a normal Friday.

Alcohol is sold to guests 21 and older with valid ID at named locations including Full Throttle Sports Bar, Food Etc., Metro Park Pub, and additional stands. Guests may drink inside the park but not outside the admission gates. A separate 21+ wristband is issued for alcohol, and service ends at 11 p.m.

Dance parties are scheduled 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Metro Park Pub and The Underground, and 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Full Throttle Stage. The Underground is also billed as the Latin dance home from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. with DJ Casey Alva.

Named performers for 2026 include April Carrión and Jessica Wild from RuPaul’s Drag Race, plus live work from MkX. Named DJs include Ray Rhodes, DJ SRO, and Casey Alva. Show times can shift on the day, so treat the lineup as confirmed talent rather than a minute-by-minute schedule.

Rides, Fast Lane limits, and practical friction

Rides are scheduled to operate with the usual private-event caveat that kiddie rides stay closed and any ride may go down for maintenance. The organizer FAQ currently anticipates that X2, Twisted Colossus, and Scream will be out of service during the event, subject to change. That is the highest-risk planning detail for coaster fans who only care about those three machines.

Daily and season Fast Lane products do not carry into the private party. Front-of-line access after 6 p.m. is only through the VIP gold wristband. You may still buy and use a daily Fast Lane during public hours until 6 p.m. if daytime crowds justify it.

There is no age minimum for the event. All guests age 3 and older need a ticket. Allies are welcome. Smoking and e-cigarettes are limited to designated smoking areas only.

Host hotel and nearby stay checks

The organizer site lists Hilton Garden Inn Valencia as the host hotel with a published special rate of $174 per night plus tax, including free parking and free hot breakfast. The published booking deadline for that block was August 7, or whenever the room block sold out.

Because that calendar date has already passed, treat the $174 figure as the last published host rate, not a guaranteed live quote. Recheck Hilton.com or the organizer hotel page for remaining rooms and current rates before you lock a Valencia stay.

If you are driving from Los Angeles, Burbank, or the San Fernando Valley, plan for Friday evening freeway congestion on the return. Leaving at midnight still means a late arrival home. If you are flying into Burbank or LAX the same weekend, separate the park night from tight morning flights.

How this differs from fall haunt nights

Out on the Mountain is not Fright Fest and not Tricks and Treats. It is a one-night private party with its own ticket path and a hard public close at 6 p.m. Fall haunt calendars matter for September and October planning, but they do not sell this August 21 product.

If your household is comparing seasonal Magic Mountain nights, keep streams separate. Buy the private party ticket only if August 21 is the night you want. Buy haunt tickets later only if you want mazes and scare zones.

Inventory is limited. The organizer language is consistent that tickets will not appear at the gate when the lot fills. Buy while the $74 tier is still shown online, or accept that VIP may be the only remaining path if general admission sells first.

The cleanest move is simple. Decide whether August 21 is your Magic Mountain night, buy the correct event ticket online, and plan arrival early enough to collect the wristband before the public close. Do not invent a same-day workaround at the gate.
