Lisbon Airport Sets 16 Euro Taxi Fares October 15

Lisbon City Council, taxi associations, ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, and the Lisbon Tourism Association signed a protocol on September 11, 2026, that sets fixed fares for taxis leaving the arrivals rank at Humberto Delgado Airport from October 15. RTP reports weekday daytime trips will cost 16 euros for Zone 1 and 19 euros for Zone 2, with higher posted rates at night, on weekends, and on national holidays.

If you land in Lisbon on or after October 15, plan the taxi as a closed price instead of a meter run: buy a Turismo de Lisboa voucher in arrivals or pay the same flat fare in an accredited taxi, including supplements and tolls. Match that cost to where you are staying in Lisbon before you walk outside, because the zone of your hotel, not the meter, now sets the bill.

October 15 Fares Split Lisbon Into Two Zones

Lusa says the Protocol on Cooperation and Self-Regulation for the Taxi Service at Lisbon Airport takes effect on October 15 as a self-regulatory bridge until a specific municipal regulation is adopted. The signatories are Lisbon City Council, the Portuguese Taxi Federation, ANTRAL (the National Association of Road Transport by Light Vehicles), ANA, and the Lisbon Tourism Association.

Zone 1 covers parishes closest to the airport: Alvalade, Areeiro, Avenidas Novas, Beato, Lumiar, Marvila, Olivais, Parque das Nacoes, Penha de Franca, and Santa Clara. Zone 2 covers Ajuda, Alcantara, Arroios, Belem, Benfica, Campolide, Campo de Ourique, Carnide, Estrela, Misericordia, Santa Maria Maior, Santo Antonio, Sao Domingos de Benfica, and Sao Vicente. Those lists are the planning map for hotel and cruise days, not a meter debate at the curb.

Weekday trips between 07:00 and 22:00 cost 16 euros in Zone 1 and 19 euros in Zone 2 for a car carrying up to four passengers and normally packed luggage. That closed price is the whole trip from the airport rank, not a starting bid. Keep the parish of your hotel in the booking notes so you know which number applies before you exit customs.

How to Pay at Arrivals Without a Meter Fight

Carlos Silva of the Portuguese Taxi Federation told Lusa, as carried by RTP, that passengers can buy a voucher at the Turismo de Lisboa counter in arrivals or pay the taxi directly, because a car waiting on the rank must honor the pre-set flat tariff with all supplements and even tolls included. The voucher amount is the final price. Drivers may not add extras for bags, booking, waiting, or animals on these airport-origin trips.

Every participating taxi must accept electronic payment, including bank cards and MB Way. The protocol bars any extra charge based on how you pay. If a driver quotes a higher number, or insists on cash only, walk back to the Turismo de Lisboa desk and use a vouchered car instead of arguing on the curb.

That change follows a summer enforcement wave. Deep Arrival already covered an August check that found 67 violations among 100 taxis at the airport, including irregular meters. The October 15 table is the operational answer: a posted fare, a voucher, and a gated rank rather than another inspection headline.

Hotel Parishes and Cruise Transfers Decide the Zone

Most first-night hotels sit in Zone 2, including Baixa and Chiado in Santa Maria Maior, Avenida da Liberdade in Santo Antonio, and Belem, at 19 euros on a weekday before 22:00 or 23 euros at night, on weekends, and on holidays. Parque das Nacoes hotels sit in Zone 1 at 16 euros by day and 20 euros at night.

Cruise passengers should treat the taxi as one transfer option. The Lisbon Airport to cruise port transfer guide still covers terminals and timing; the new table only prices the taxi leg. If the dock sits outside city parishes, use the suburban voucher table instead of the 16 euro headline.

Lusa lists daytime samples beyond the city: Oeiras from 36.80 euros, Costa da Caparica from 38.60 euros, and Estoril, Cascais, and Sintra from 53.40 euros. Ask Turismo de Lisboa for the voucher that matches the town name, not a neighborhood nickname.

Night, Weekend, and Larger Cabs Carry Posted Add-Ons

From 22:00 to 07:00, and on weekends and national holidays, Zone 1 rises to 20 euros and Zone 2 to 23 euros for a standard car with up to four passengers. Larger vehicles that actually carry more than four people cost 20 euros in Zone 1 and 23 euros in Zone 2 on weekday days, then 24 and 28 euros on nights, weekends, and holidays.

A family of five should budget the larger-vehicle row, not the 16 euro headline. A couple landing at 23:30 on a Saturday should budget 23 euros to a Baixa hotel, not 19. Antonio Valle of Turismo de Lisboa told RTP Antena 1 the table makes the taxi more transparent for visitors. Recheck Turismo de Lisboa if a later municipal regulation replaces the protocol.

Accredited Plates Only Use the Arrivals Rank

Silva told Lusa the rank will use an operational accreditation system. Only vehicles registered by the associations, or cars that formally join the protocol, may take part. The airport will identify cars by number plate, and the driver will swipe a card at a gate being installed for rank access.

If a tout or a car off the official rank offers a ride, you are outside the protocol. Stay in the arrivals taxi area, use the Turismo de Lisboa voucher desk if you want the paper trail, and keep a card ready. Later trips to Lisbon sights still run on the ordinary meter unless you buy another voucher. Do not assume the 16 euro fare applies from your hotel back to the terminal.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Land on or after October 15 on a weekday before 22:00 Pay 16 euros to Zone 1 or 19 euros to Zone 2 at the accredited arrivals rank, voucher or in-car.
Land at night, on a weekend, or on a national holiday Budget 20 euros Zone 1 or 23 euros Zone 2 for a standard taxi with up to four passengers.
Travel with more than four people in a larger taxi Use the 20/23 euro weekday row or the 24/28 euro night, weekend, and holiday row.
Go past city limits to Cascais, Sintra, or Oeiras Ask Turismo de Lisboa for the suburban voucher, not the 16 euro city headline.
Planning Impact

September 11, 2026, is the protocol date. Lisbon City Council, FPT, ANTRAL, ANA, and Turismo de Lisboa signed the self-regulation deal that sets the airport rank rules.

October 15, 2026, is the first paid day. From that morning, accredited arrivals taxis must charge the posted zone fares, including supplements and tolls.

The municipal regulation is still ahead. Lusa describes the protocol as transitional until a specific city regulation is adopted, so recheck Turismo de Lisboa if you travel after a later legal update.

Frequently Asked

When do Lisbon Airport fixed taxi fares start?

October 15, 2026. The protocol was signed on September 11, 2026, and RTP and Lusa both name October 15 as the date the arrivals-rank table takes effect.

How much is a taxi from Lisbon Airport to the city center?

Most central parishes sit in Zone 2, so a weekday daytime taxi from the accredited arrivals rank costs 19 euros for up to four passengers. Night, weekend, and holiday trips in that zone cost 23 euros.

What is included in the 16 euro Lisbon Airport taxi fare?

The Zone 1 weekday daytime fare covers up to four passengers, normally packed luggage, supplements, and tolls on an accredited airport-origin trip. Drivers may not add a card or MB Way surcharge.

Do I need a Turismo de Lisboa voucher for the fixed fare?

No. Carlos Silva told Lusa you can buy a voucher at the arrivals Turismo de Lisboa desk or pay the same flat fare in the taxi, because rank cars must honor the pre-set tariff.

Which Lisbon parishes are Zone 1 from the airport?

Alvalade, Areeiro, Avenidas Novas, Beato, Lumiar, Marvila, Olivais, Parque das Nacoes, Penha de Franca, and Santa Clara. Hotels in Parque das Nacoes are the usual Zone 1 stay.
