Village West Parkway and the Interstate 70 entrance and exit ramps at North 110th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, reopen to traffic from Wednesday, September 23, through Monday, September 28. Cleveland Construction, working with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Buc-ee’s, the Kansas Department of Transportation, and the Kansas Turnpike Authority, is pausing Buc-ee’s road work so Hollywood Casino 400 traffic can use the corridor.
This is a short access window, not a finished interchange. After race weekend, Village West Parkway closes again on September 28 and stays closed until after Thanksgiving. The I-70 ramps at North 110th stay open through October 4, then close on October 5. If you are driving to Kansas Speedway this week, use the reopened ramps while they last. Which Roads Reopen on September 23
KSHB reports that Village West Parkway and the I-70 entrance and exit ramps at North 110th Street will be open from Wednesday, September 23, through Monday, September 28. Those roads have been closed for months as crews rebuild the corridor for a Buc-ee’s travel center under construction near the speedway.
KMBC matches those dates and names the same two facilities: Village West Parkway and the I-70 ramps at North 110th. The reopening is for all traffic, not a race-only lane. Posted signs and detours can still change as crews shift barriers, so follow the field signs on arrival rather than a saved map pin from earlier in 2026.
Cleveland Construction said it coordinated the pause with the Unified Government, Buc-ee’s, KDOT, and the Kansas Turnpike Authority to balance construction progress against race-week demand. That is a contractor-and-city access plan. It is not a KDOT statewide travel advisory, and it does not reopen every Village West side street.
Hollywood Casino 400 Weekend Timing
Kansas Speedway’s published weekend schedule puts the Hollywood Casino 400, the NASCAR Cup Series race, on Sunday, September 27, at 2:00 p.m. CDT. Saturday, September 26, is the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Friday, September 25, is the ARCA Menards Series night race. Camping load-in starts Thursday, September 24.
The road window is built around that four-day cluster. Wednesday, September 23, is the first reopen day, before camping opens. Monday, September 28, is the last full reopen day, after Sunday’s Cup race. If you are arriving Thursday for a campsite, the I-70 ramps at North 110th and Village West Parkway should already be open.
Race parking and infield camping still follow Kansas Speedway’s own lots and campground rules. The city reopen restores a public road and interstate ramps next to the track. It does not replace a speedway parking pass or a campground reservation. RV travelers who want a backup site off the speedway campus can use our Kansas City RV parks and campgrounds guide.
Closures Resume After Monday
The useful part of this story is the second half of the calendar. Village West Parkway closes again on the afternoon of September 28 and is expected to remain closed until after Thanksgiving. That is the roundabout and parkway rebuild tied to the Buc-ee’s site. Do not plan a post-race Monday afternoon shortcut on Village West Parkway.
The North 110th Street and I-70 ramps stay open a week longer. KMBC, citing Cleveland Construction, says those ramps remain open through October 4 and close on October 5. After October 5, both the parkway and the interchange stay closed until after Thanksgiving while crews finish the roundabout and interchange work.
Anyone staying in Kansas City through early October still has a brief extra window on the I-70 ramps after Village West Parkway goes dark. Anyone arriving for a later fall event should assume the January-style detour pattern returns on October 5 and holds through the Thanksgiving holiday period.
How to Reach Kansas Speedway This Weekend
For I-70 traffic heading to the Hollywood Casino 400, the restored ramps at North 110th Street are the reason this pause exists. Use them between September 23 and September 28, then expect Village West Parkway to close again that Monday afternoon. Keep an alternate from State Avenue and Speedway Boulevard in case a barrier crew is still moving cones.
Kansas Speedway sits in western Wyandotte County next to Hollywood Casino and the Legends Outlets area. The construction site is the future Buc-ee’s travel center on Village West Parkway, not the speedway grandstand itself. A closed parkway earlier in 2026 already forced race and casino traffic onto other local streets. This week’s reopen is meant to put that flow back on the rebuilt alignment for five days.
This I-70 work is separate from Kansas City, Missouri’s later downtown I-70 stadium corridor project. Deep Arrival’s earlier report on the 2027 downtown I-70 stadiums closure is a different segment, on a different calendar. Do not mix the two when you pack a GPS route.
Buc-ee’s Construction Context
Village West Parkway closed in January 2026 so crews could shift the road and build a new roundabout for the travel center. I-70 ramps at North 110th later closed in May for overpass and ramp work, with an original target to reopen around August 2. The current notice is a new, short reopen for race week, then another shutdown to finish the interchange.
Buc-ee’s is not yet open at this site. The building and fuel canopy are still under construction. This story is about public roads around the job site, not about a store hours change. When the travel center eventually opens, it will sit on Village West Parkway next to the speedway district. Until then, treat every date as a construction traffic date.
Cleveland Construction told local stations the temporary opening will let traffic move through the area the way it will after the project is complete. That is the best preview fans will get of the finished interchange before Thanksgiving. After September 28, go back to posted detours until the parkway and ramps reopen for good.
