Travelers from the United States and seven Asian markets can now get a free one way shinkansen ride from Hakata to Kagoshima, worth up to 11,420 yen, if they fly into Fukuoka and book at least one night at a participating Kagoshima hotel through Klook. The offer runs until February 28, 2027, or until the ticket allocation runs out.

Klook and Kagoshima Prefecture announced the campaign on September 18. If Kagoshima is new to your Japan plans, our guide to things to do in Kagoshima covers the city, Sakurajima and the day trips worth the extra stop.

At a Glance
  • Offer: a free one way Kyushu Shinkansen ticket, Hakata to Kagoshima, worth up to 11,420 yen.
  • Condition: arrive via Fukuoka Airport and book at least one night at a participating Kagoshima hotel on Klook.
  • Eligible markets: United States, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China.
  • Window: September 18, 2026 to February 28, 2027, while stock lasts.
  • Not covered: the return journey.

How the Free Ticket Works

The subsidy is tied to a hotel booking. According to Klook’s announcement, eligible travelers who transit through Fukuoka Airport and book a stay of at least one night at a participating hotel in Kagoshima Prefecture through Klook receive a one way shinkansen ticket from Hakata to Kagoshima, with the value capped at 11,420 yen. Tickets are allocated first come, first served, so the offer can end before February if the stock runs out.

The release does not spell out the redemption steps, such as whether the ticket is issued as a voucher or reimbursed after travel. Read the terms on the Klook listing before you book, and keep the hotel confirmation handy, since the hotel booking is what qualifies you.

Eight Markets, Including the United States

The campaign is open to travelers from the United States, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, both Klook and the Japanese trade site Travel Voice report. Travelers from other countries, including Europe and Australia, are not listed as eligible.

For American travelers the practical catch is the arrival point. Many visitors from the United States enter Japan through Tokyo or Osaka, and the offer requires transit through Fukuoka Airport, so it mainly helps people already routing through Fukuoka, whether on a connecting flight within Asia or as part of a Kyushu itinerary. If you were planning to reach Kyushu by rail from Tokyo or Osaka instead, the free ticket does not apply to that journey.

Kagoshima in 80 Minutes From Hakata

“Kagoshima is only around 80 minutes away by Shinkansen,” Klook Japan general manager Wataru Masuda said, adding that it still sits outside the typical international itinerary. The prefecture wants to pull visitors who land in Fukuoka further south, according to Travel Voice, and the free ticket removes the single biggest cost of the side trip.

Before planning the connection, check current service on the line; we reported when full service resumed on September 18. Check the timetable for your dates before you commit to a tight connection from the airport.

Passes Coming Next

Travel Voice reports two further products. A Kagoshima Sightseeing Pass, developed with JR Kyushu and sold exclusively through Klook, offers two days of unlimited rail travel, and a Klook Pass Kagoshima bundling local experiences is planned. Neither report gives prices, so compare them with individual tickets once they go on sale.

Klook points to a similar approach in Hiroshima, where it says sales of its Klook Pass Hiroshima rose twelvefold after launch. That is the company’s own figure and says nothing about how quickly the Kagoshima ticket stock will go, but it does suggest demand for bundled offers like this can move fast.
