IHG Cuts Cash Cost on Points and Cash Stays Through August 24

IHG One Rewards is again discounting the cash side of Points and Cash bookings for selected members. Targeted accounts that see the offer can book through August 24, 2026, for stays through September 7, and the cash co-pay drops while the stay remains an award booking.

That deadline is useful even if you are not hunting a creative points buy. If the discounted cash line appears in your logged-in search, you can cut the out-of-pocket cost of a mixed points stay before the booking window closes.

At a Glance
  • Offer: Discount on the cash portion of IHG Points and Cash reward stays.
  • Book by: August 24, 2026, while logged into IHG One Rewards.
  • Stay window: Through September 7, 2026.
  • Access: Targeted. Not every member sees the struck-through cash price.
  • Cancel rule: Qualifying cancellations refund the stay entirely in points, including the cash-purchased portion.

What Points and Cash is doing in this promo

IHG Points and Cash lets members redeem fewer points and pay a cash co-pay for the rest of a reward night. The co-pay is effectively buying the missing points needed to complete the award.

Under the current promotion, targeted members see that cash co-pay reduced. Specialist reports place the discount around 12 to 15 percent off the normal cash portion, depending on the property and threshold shown.

Because IHG treats Points and Cash as an award booking, a cancellation inside the hotel’s free-cancel window returns the entire stay as points. That includes both the points you spent from your balance and the points represented by the cash co-pay.

That refund mechanic is why loyalty writers treat the offer as both a stay discount and a conditional points-purchase path. The second use only works if you cancel after the purchase posts and before the hotel’s penalty window.

Who actually sees the discount

AwardWallet and Frequent Miler both describe the August promotion as targeted. If you are included, the booking flow shows the ordinary cash amount struck through and a lower cash price beneath it.

If you do not see that UI while logged in, you do not have the offer. There is no public promo code that forces the discount onto every account.

Frequent Miler’s terms summary says the booking window runs August 3 through August 24, 2026, for stays August 3 through September 7, and that members must be signed into IHG One Rewards on an official IHG booking path.

That targeting boundary is the first traveler decision. Check your account before building a trip plan around a discount you may never be shown.

How the math compares with buying points outright

IHG is also running a separate buy-points sale with up to a 100 percent bonus through September 1, which Deep Arrival already covered at IHG’s extended points purchase bonus. At the top bonus tier, purchased points cost about half a cent each.

AwardWallet’s sample Points and Cash math on an InterContinental New York Times Square search landed near 0.53 cents per point when using the cheapest cash-heavy threshold and then cancelling for a full points refund. Frequent Miler’s Candlewood example showed roughly 0.51 to 0.70 cents per point across thresholds after the 15 percent cash cut.

Those figures mean the cancel-and-bank route is close to, but not clearly better than, the current buy-points sale. If you can still buy points under the annual purchase cap, the outright sale is usually cleaner.

Use Points and Cash when you are targeted, you want the discounted stay itself, or you need a smaller top-up that fits poorly under the buy-points minimums and caps.

Also remember amenity fees and resort charges. Sample award searches often still list separate cash fees beside the points or Points and Cash row. The promo discounts the co-pay, not every hotel fee attached to the stay.

What to do before August 24

Log into IHG One Rewards and search a real stay date before September 7. Look for the struck-through cash amount on Points and Cash rows. Screenshot the offer if you plan to cancel later, because support conversations are easier with evidence.

Book only on IHG.com, the IHG app, or another official IHG channel that shows the discount while you are authenticated. Third-party bookings will not carry this award mechanic.

If your goal is a real stay, compare the discounted Points and Cash total with a pure cash member rate and a pure points award. The promo only helps when the mixed total beats both alternatives for your dates.

If your goal is a points top-up, confirm the hotel’s free cancellation deadline and your own risk tolerance before paying cash you intend to convert into points through a cancel. A mistimed cancel turns a paper discount into a paid hotel night.

Test more than one brand family inside IHG. InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, and Kimpton properties can price Points and Cash thresholds differently. A weak threshold at one hotel does not prove the promo is useless across the portfolio.

Keep the stay short enough that free cancellation remains available under the hotel’s own rules. A prepaid non-refundable cash rate is a different product and will not behave like this award path.

Finally, do not stack this with every other IHG promo in your head. The specialist terms say the Points and Cash discount cannot be combined with other current promotional advantages, and only the most generous points outcome posts when multiple offers could apply.

Decision Matrix
If you are Do this
Logged in and see no struck-through cash price Skip this promo. You were not targeted. Use the buy-points sale or wait.
Targeted and planning a real stay by September 7 Book Points and Cash on IHG channels if the mixed total beats cash and full points.
Targeted and trying to buy points cheaply Compare the cancel-refund cents-per-point math with the current 100 percent buy-points sale first.
Near the annual points-purchase cap Points and Cash can still help for a small top-up when the buy-points route is blocked.
Unsure about cancellation timing Do not use the cancel-and-bank path. Treat the offer as a stay discount only.
What to Watch For
  • August 24 booking cutoff: The targeted cash discount disappears after that date.
  • September 7 stay end: Later travel dates are outside this promotion window.
  • Buy-points competition: The separate 100 percent purchase bonus through September 1 can beat the cancel-and-bank math.

Check your IHG login for the struck-through cash price before August 24. If it appears and you need a near-term stay, the discount is real. If it does not appear, move on without waiting for a code that does not exist.

Frequently Asked

Is the IHG Points and Cash discount available to every member?

No. Specialist reports say the August promotion is targeted. Only accounts that show a struck-through cash co-pay while logged in have access.

What are the key dates?

Book by August 24, 2026, for stays through September 7, 2026. You must be signed into IHG One Rewards on an official IHG booking path.

What happens if I cancel a Points and Cash booking?

When cancelled under Reward Night rules and the hotel’s free-cancellation policy, IHG refunds the stay entirely in points, including the portion paid in cash.

Should I use this instead of buying IHG points?

Usually no if you can still buy points under the current 100 percent bonus sale. Use Points and Cash when you are targeted and either want the stay itself or need a small top-up that fits the cancel-refund path better.
