Icelandair Ends Halifax Flights October 18: No Return in Summer 2027

Icelandair is ending its nonstop flights between Halifax and Keflavík International Airport on Sunday, October 18, 2026, and the route is not on the airline’s summer 2027 schedule. Iceland Review reported the change on September 29, citing Icelandic broadcaster RÚV, and Icelandair’s own route schedule lists Halifax only for summer 2026, from June 4 to October 18.

If you live in Atlantic Canada and have used Icelandair to reach Iceland or Europe, plan next year’s trips around other gateways. Icelandair’s destinations and schedule page lists Toronto and Vancouver as its year round Canadian cities, so travelers from Nova Scotia will need a connection or another airline for transatlantic trips in 2027.

If you are comparing options, our Icelandair guide covers the airline’s fares, cabins and baggage rules.

At a Glance
  • Last flight: Sunday, October 18, 2026.
  • Route: Halifax to Keflavík International Airport.
  • Summer 2027: Halifax not on the schedule.
  • Still flying: Toronto and Vancouver, listed as year round.
  • Reason: not given in reports so far.

Icelandair Halifax Flights End October 18

According to Iceland Review, Icelandair will end direct flights between Keflavík and Halifax on October 18, and Halifax is absent from the airline’s summer 2027 programme. The report, based on RÚV, did not give a reason for the decision. Iceland Review noted that Icelandair’s Canadian network has changed several times over the years.

Icelandair’s schedule page shows Halifax as a seasonal route for 2026 only, running from June 4 to October 18. In the same list, Toronto and Vancouver are marked as year round. The airline has not published a Halifax schedule for summer 2027, which suggests the route is not simply taking its usual winter break.

What It Means for Halifax Travelers

For travelers in Nova Scotia and the rest of Atlantic Canada, the Halifax route offered a nonstop flight to Iceland and a one stop connection to cities across Europe through Keflavík. Without it, the most likely options are connecting through Toronto on Icelandair or booking another airline’s transatlantic service from Halifax, which is often seasonal. Compare total travel time and connection risk, not only the fare.

If you were hoping to book the route for summer 2027, it will not be there, so set a fare alert for the gateways that remain and watch for any schedule changes. If you already hold a ticket for travel on or before October 18, your flight should operate as normal, but check your booking in the Icelandair app in case of schedule changes in the final weeks of the route.

How to Reach Iceland From Atlantic Canada in 2027

Without the Halifax flight, the simplest Icelandair option from Nova Scotia is a connection through Toronto, which the airline lists as a year round destination. That adds a domestic flight and a longer travel day, so look for itineraries on a single ticket, which protects you if the first flight is late. If you book the domestic leg separately, leave a generous gap or plan an overnight in Toronto before the transatlantic flight. Check the baggage rules on both airlines, since a separate ticket usually means collecting and checking bags again.

Visiting Halifax From Europe

The change also affects European travelers who used Icelandair to reach Nova Scotia, including visitors combining Halifax with a New England or Canada cruise or a road trip through the Maritimes. From 2027, those trips will need a connection through a larger Canadian or US gateway. If Halifax is on your list, our guide to things to do in Halifax can help you plan the city itself.

Routes like this can return when demand or airline plans change, so it is worth checking Icelandair’s schedule again before booking summer travel. For now, the official schedule does not include Halifax after October 18, 2026. Travelers who rely on points or vouchers with Icelandair should also check where those can be used once the Halifax route ends.
