Mongolian airline Hunnu Air launched the first regular nonstop flights between India and Mongolia on Monday 28 September 2026, linking New Delhi and Ulaanbaatar once a week and cutting the journey to around five hours, ANI reports via The Tribune. The inaugural flight from Ulaanbaatar landed at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 7:20 a.m.
Until now, trips between the two capitals needed a connection through hubs such as Beijing or Incheon and could take 13 to 18 hours. The route runs every Monday, and Hunnu Air lists it through 27 March 2027, TravTalk reports.
- Route: New Delhi to Ulaanbaatar, nonstop, by Hunnu Air.
- First flight: Monday 28 September 2026.
- Frequency: once a week, on Mondays.
- Flight time: about five hours, against 13 to 18 hours with a connection.
- Schedule listed to: 27 March 2027.
Hunnu Air Delhi to Ulaanbaatar Schedule
Hunnu Air’s schedule lists flight MR302 departing Delhi at 8:00 a.m. and arriving in Ulaanbaatar at 4:00 p.m. local time, while MR301 operates the Ulaanbaatar to Delhi sector overnight, leaving at 3:30 a.m. on Mondays, TravTalk reports. Both legs operate on Mondays, so a Delhi departure and a Delhi arrival fall on the same day each week.
When the route was first filed in August, AeroRoutes reported that Hunnu Air planned to operate it with Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. At that stage the weekly flight was only loaded from 28 September to 19 October, so the later listing through March 2027 shows the airline extending its plans for the winter. Check the aircraft and timings on your booking, as schedules for new routes can change.
Why the New India to Mongolia Flight Matters
The link fulfils an announcement made during Mongolian President U Khurelsukh’s state visit to India in October 2025, when the direct service was announced at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ANI reports. The Embassy of India in Ulaanbaatar says the route will support trade and tourism, and both governments expect it to help business, medical and leisure travel.
For Mongolian travellers, the flight makes India’s Buddhist heritage sites easier to reach. Indian travellers gain simpler access to Mongolia’s landscapes, historical sites and winter tourism. Hunnu Air chief commercial officer Turbold Tserenkhuu said journeys with one or two stops can exceed 20 hours, and the airline is targeting Mumbai and Bengaluru as future Indian destinations, according to TravTalk. Bird Group is supporting the India launch.
Getting the Route Off the Ground
India’s ambassador to Mongolia, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, and Hunnu Air chief executive Munkhjargal worked with stakeholders to get the flight running, and the Indian embassy thanked India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Mongolia’s Ministry of Road and Transport for their support, ANI reports. The route could also help bilateral trade by allowing faster and potentially cheaper movement of cargo between the two countries.
Planning a Trip on the Weekly Flight
With one flight a week in each direction, your trip length will usually be set in whole weeks unless you combine the nonstop with a connecting itinerary on the other leg. Book early for popular periods, confirm your visa or entry requirements for India or Mongolia before you buy, and leave a buffer before any onward connection in Delhi, since a missed Monday flight means a week’s wait for the next nonstop.
If you are connecting from elsewhere in India, Delhi’s Terminal 3 handles the flight. Keep an eye on Hunnu Air announcements for any change to frequency, and on the Mumbai and Bengaluru plans if those cities suit you better.
| If you are | What to do |
|---|---|
| Flying Delhi to Ulaanbaatar | Book the Monday MR302 and check the latest timings on your ticket. |
| Returning to India from Mongolia | Plan around the Monday overnight MR301 departure. |
| Connecting onward from Delhi | Leave a generous buffer; the next nonstop is a week later. |
| Based in Mumbai or Bengaluru | Watch for Hunnu Air’s planned expansion to those cities. |
