Hong Kong Disneyland posted a service adjustment on its hotel page confirming that Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will be temporarily closed in its entirety from October 12, 2026, for comprehensive enhancements, with no return date named. Guests holding or shopping stays from that night forward should treat the Victorian flagship as unavailable and move nights to Disney Explorers Lodge or Disney’s Hollywood Hotel, which the same notice says will remain fully operational.
RTHK reported the Friday briefing from Anita Lai, vice president of communications and public affairs, as the public confirmation of a full-hotel facelift at the 400-room property that opened with the park in 2005. Anyone planning a resort stay through Halloween, Christmas, or later winter dates should check live inventory on the official site and on Deep Arrival’s Hong Kong Disneyland guide before locking rooms or character dining.
- Close date: Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel shuts in full from October 12, 2026.
- Reopen: Official pages and Friday briefings give no completion date.
- Still open: Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel stay fully operational.
- Until then: West-side work continues daily from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- Next step: Move remaining nights onto the two open hotels through the official site.
October 12 Takes the Flagship Hotel Offline
The official service adjustment is unambiguous: the hotel closes in its entirety from October 12, 2026, while Disney completes “comprehensive enhancements” to facilities, services, and the guest experience. That is a full inventory cut, not a wing-by-wing pause, and it sits on the same page guests use to book Standard, Deluxe, and Kingdom Club rooms today.
RTHK’s Friday report placed the decision in a briefing from Lai, who said tourist preferences have shifted toward more immersive stays and that the upgrade will put greater weight on storytelling and service. The South China Morning Post, citing the same briefing, said the 2005 Victorian property will add Disney movie-themed rooms while keeping its classic look, and that no completion date was announced.
Until Disney names a return night, planners should treat every stay from October 12 onward as a two-hotel problem. The park itself is not part of this closure notice, so ticketed days can still be built around Hong Kong Disneyland hours, but the on-property bed that sits beside the water will be gone for an undefined stretch.
Two Sister Hotels Remain the Booking Path
The official notice invites guests to keep a full Disney resort stay at Disney Explorers Lodge and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel. Both will remain fully operational, and room reservations for those properties can still be made through Hong Kong Disneyland’s website. That is the only booking path the operator named in the closure language.
SCMP reported Explorers Lodge at 750 rooms and Hollywood Hotel at 600, which together still give the resort more than 1,300 keys after the 400-room flagship drops out. Those figures matter for Halloween and Christmas weeks, when the three-hotel set recently ran above 80 percent occupancy, according to Lai as quoted by SCMP. Losing the waterfront building concentrates demand on the two remaining roofs.
Guests who want the classic lobby, Kingdom Club lounge, or a room that faces the bay will not find a like-for-like substitute on site. Explorers Lodge leans adventure theming and Hollywood Hotel leans classic film, and both already share shuttle access, recreational activities, and a designated park entrance with the closing hotel. The stay remains a Disney resort stay. It is not the same building.
Rooms, Crystal Lotus, and the June West-Wing Work
RTHK described the closing hotel as a 400-room, three-restaurant Victorian resort that has taken guests since the park opened. SCMP separately reported that Crystal Lotus, the hotel restaurant known for character dim sum, will stay unavailable until the renovation is finished. That dining loss is distinct from park restaurants, which continue on their own calendars.
A second official service adjustment, still on the hotel page, covers work already underway. From June 2026, renovation on the west side of the building runs daily between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with possible smell or noise, while key facilities stay open and room views are described as unaffected. Some room types may be unavailable on certain dates during that phase.
Those two notices stack. Through October 11, guests can still occupy the hotel under the west-wing rules. From October 12, the entire building goes dark. Anyone with a confirmation that crosses that night needs a new plan, because the daytime construction window does not continue as a partial-stay option after the full close.
Guests With Fall and Winter Dates Should Move Now
October 12 is 38 days from the Friday announcement, which is a short window for a hotel that just posted summer occupancy above 80 percent across the three-property set. Halloween programming, Christmas dining, and later winter travel all sit on the closed side of that date. Waiting for a reopen announcement is not a booking strategy, because the operator has not promised one.
The official notice does not publish a cancellation script, refund rule, or automatic move for nights already held after October 11. Guests with those dates should contact Disney reservations with the confirmation number rather than assume a complimentary shift onto Explorers Lodge or Hollywood Hotel. New buyers should skip the closing hotel entirely and price the two open properties first.
Crowd and ticket timing still matter even when the bed changes. Families who rebook a sister hotel should recast park days against the Hong Kong Disneyland crowd calendar, because Halloween and Christmas weeks that once filled three hotels will now press two. A later park start does not fix a missing room on property.
Park Dining Continues Through Halloween and Christmas
The hotel close does not cancel the park’s seasonal food calendar. SCMP reported that Hong Kong Disneyland will keep rolling out Halloween and Christmas dining, including some halal-certified dishes, with the return of Jack Skellington’s The Nightmare Before Dinner and Frozen-themed Christmas treats in the World of Frozen area. Those events are park-side, not Crystal Lotus substitutes.
RTHK carried comments from food and beverage director Manfred Wong that Plaza Inn, which reopened in June, has already served more than 40,000 visitors, and that nearly 150,000 themed dining items from Pixar Summer Fest sold through August. Wong also said the park has added more halal options, including frozen lollipops and two Halloween-exclusive barbecue platters. That is useful if a hotel restaurant is about to vanish, but it is not a room.
Lai, in the SCMP account, called Hong Kong Disneyland the only Disney resort backed by mountains and facing the sea and said the renovated hotel will keep that classic charm with more immersive story rooms. Until a reopen date exists, that promise is future inventory. The live decision is which of the two open hotels still has the nights you need, and whether a park dining reservation can replace the hotel table you just lost.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Hold Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel nights from October 12, 2026 onward | Call Disney reservations with the confirmation. The official close notice does not auto-move those stays. |
| Still need an on-property bed for Halloween or Christmas | Book Disney Explorers Lodge or Disney’s Hollywood Hotel on the official site before those weeks fill the remaining 1,300-plus rooms. |
| Arrive before October 12 and leave on or after it | Split the stay or move the whole trip. The hotel is closed in its entirety from that date, not after checkout. |
| Wanted Crystal Lotus or a waterfront Kingdom Club room | Drop that expectation for this trip. SCMP says Crystal Lotus stays closed until the renovation ends, and no reopen date is posted. |
Through October 11, 2026 is the last-stay window. The hotel remains bookable under the June west-side work rules, with daily construction from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
October 12, 2026 is the hard close. The entire Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel goes offline, and the two sister hotels become the only on-property rooms.
No reopen date is the planning ceiling. Do not leave Halloween, Christmas, or winter rooms on a wait for the Victorian building to return.
