Hapag-Lloyd Opens Three EUROPA 2 Art Cruises for 2027

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has outlined three ART 2 SEA voyages for EUROPA 2 in 2027, expanding the ship’s cultural program across the Indo-Pacific, East Asia and the western Mediterranean. Two sample sailings now have published dates and starting prices, while several studio, museum and collection visits remain in planning.

The July 15 announcement creates a specific choice for travelers who want contemporary art to shape the voyage rather than appear as occasional onboard entertainment. The most concrete options are an 18 day Tokyo to Hong Kong sailing in May and a 12 day Rome to Palma de Mallorca sailing in August, both tied to an October 31, 2026 early booking deadline.

ART 2 SEA puts curators at the center of the voyage

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises’ official ART 2 SEA release says the three programs will combine gallery exhibitions, talks, artist encounters and specially designed visits ashore. The operator names gallerists, collectors, art historians and curators who will give each sailing its own point of view.

The ship is part of the product rather than a neutral transport platform. EUROPA 2 has a gallery on Deck 9 and roughly 890 original works throughout the vessel, so the new voyages build on a permanent collection instead of installing a temporary theme for a few sea days.

Independent coverage published July 16 corroborates the three regional programs and the plan to connect onboard exhibitions with museums, studios and private collections ashore. The operator remains the authority for the exact sailing dates, fares and which proposed visits ultimately enter the final excursion list.

The Indo-Pacific program is the least settled

The first ART 2 SEA concept described for 2027 follows an Indo-Pacific route through Southeast Asia and Australia. Lisa Zeitz, Kristian Jarmuschek and Thole Rotermund are named as expert hosts, while Berlin gallery Jarmuschek and Partner is expected to give the Deck 9 gallery a new curatorial direction.

Planned visits include the Semarang Contemporary Art Gallery on Java, the ARMA Museum and Resort in Bali, and a studio encounter with Indonesian artist Faisal Habibi. The release also points to Indigenous art in Western Australia, but it does not publish a complete sample itinerary, starting price or final excursion inventory for this program.

That distinction matters at the booking stage. The regional concept and named hosts are current, but travelers should not choose an unlisted departure on the assumption that every proposed studio or collection visit is guaranteed until the operator connects the ART 2 SEA label to an exact voyage record.

Tokyo to Hong Kong has the longest published sample

The Japan and China program is attached to voyage EUX2708, an 18 day sailing from Tokyo to Hong Kong from May 15 to June 2, 2027. The operator lists a starting PLATINUM fare of EUR 13,820 per person in double occupancy, cruise only, after the early booking discount.

Art collectors Lea and Christian Schwarm are the lead hosts, joined by China analyst Ailin Huang and collector and exhibition organizer Desire Feuerle. Nina Papiorek is scheduled to present black and white photography from Japan, China, Hong Kong and Vietnam in the Deck 9 gallery, giving the shipboard exhibition a direct link to the route.

Possible shore highlights include the Kirishima Open Air Museum, Beijing’s 798 Art Zone and a Shanghai studio visit with artist Guan Xiao. The operator says the hand selected excursions are still being finalized, so those examples should guide interest rather than function as guaranteed inclusions in a purchase decision.

The Mediterranean option is shorter and less expensive

Voyage EUX2714 runs from Civitavecchia, the cruise gateway for Rome, to Palma de Mallorca from August 3 to August 15, 2027. Its published starting PLATINUM fare is EUR 9,240 per person in double occupancy, cruise only, with the same October 31, 2026 early booking deadline.

Hamburg gallerist Carola Persiehl will return as host, and Galerie Commeter is expected to curate a contemporary art exhibition aboard EUROPA 2. The onboard program is set to include gallery openings, art talks and guided tours, while the western Mediterranean route provides the setting for visits beyond the ship.

The operator identifies Fondation Maeght on the Cote d’Azur, Commanderie de Peyrassol, Hauser and Wirth Menorca, and artist Minjung Kim’s studio in Provence as planned possibilities. Because those arrangements are not presented as a final included list, a traveler comparing value should ask which visits require separate excursion payment and whether capacity is limited.

How the two priced voyages compare

The price gap between the two published samples is EUR 4,580 per person before flights, hotels, transfers, insurance and optional shore spending. That difference buys six more cruise days on the East Asia itinerary, but it does not establish which voyage offers more included art access because the excursion details are still incomplete.

Both starting figures assume two people sharing and include an early booking discount valid through October 31, 2026. A solo traveler, a different suite category or a reservation made after the deadline can produce a materially different total, and a euro price also leaves travelers paying in another currency exposed to exchange movement.

ART 2 SEA is a real product distinction, but its value depends on the final access rather than the label alone. The strongest booking decision will match the preferred region and voyage length, then confirm the exact cultural visits, host participation and total trip cost before the discounted fare deadline.
