Translink’s extended works schedule now lists Beenleigh and Gold Coast line changes through Sunday, October 11, 2026, with different service patterns by date. From Saturday, October 3, through Monday, October 5, railbuses replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road. From October 6 through 11, the two lines run as combined services between Varsity Lakes and Banoon, with no trains between Banoon and Boggo Road.
The traveler decision is which date-specific transfer to use, not whether both lines are simply closed through October 11. The September weekends in the original report have passed. For an October trip, use the service window below and check Translink’s journey planner before leaving. The best time to visit Australia page supplies broader seasonal context, not the operating rail map.
- October 3 to 5: railbuses replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road.
- October 6 to 11: combined trains run Varsity Lakes to Banoon; no trains Banoon to Boggo Road.
- Airport: terminal patterns vary by date and time; check the linked notices.
- Doomben October 3 to 5: Eagle Junction transfer for city travel.

Two Service Patterns Continue Through October 11
The original September 18 notice covered September 19 to 20, September 26 to 27, and October 3 to 5. Its current weekend notice, reviewed September 24, retains the October 3 to 5 railbus window. The wider September 21 to October 11 works schedule adds the later combined-train pattern. The past September weekends are historical; they are not new closure dates.
During October 3 to 5, Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains do not run and railbuses cover Varsity Lakes to Boggo Road. From October 6 to 11, trains return on the southern section as combined services between Varsity Lakes and Banoon, while the Banoon to Boggo Road gap remains closed to trains. A plan that assumes either full rail restoration after October 5 or a complete train shutdown through October 11 would be wrong.
The Gold Coast line still matters for visitors who use Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 and then connect to heavy rail toward Brisbane. Light rail is a different system. These notices concern the Queensland Rail heavy-rail corridor, so use the correct map for each part of the trip.
Airport Transfers Depend on the Date and Time
For October 3 to 5, Translink’s weekend notice says Airport line trains run between Domestic Airport and Boggo Road. The Gold Coast and Beenleigh continuation uses railbuses for those dates. Do not apply that terminal pattern unchanged to every later day: the October 6 to 9 weekday notice lists Airport trains to Cleveland until 7:30 p.m. and to Boggo Road after 7:30 p.m.
Boggo Road is the railbus transfer in the October 3 to 5 plan. From October 6, the southern train section instead ends at Banoon, with railbuses covering the remaining gap to Boggo Road. Allow time for the transfer and road delays, and check the specific airport journey for your travel date and time.
For October 3 to 5, the current weekend notice lists Cleveland to Northgate, Doomben to Eagle Junction, and Ferny Grove to Boggo Road. City-bound Doomben passengers transfer at Eagle Junction. That revises the older Roma Street terminal in this report. Other line patterns can differ in the later weekday window; do not copy one weekend’s map to October 6 to 11.
Railbuses Cover the Closed Section for Each Date
For October 3 to 5, railbuses replace trains between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road. The current weekend notice lists express and all-stop patterns serving the Beenleigh and Gold Coast corridors, including Beenleigh to Boggo Road via Loganlea and Altandi, Helensvale to Beenleigh, Varsity Lakes to Helensvale with an express continuation to Beenleigh, and Helensvale to Boggo Road. Use the route-specific planner rather than assuming one bus calls at every station.
In the October 3 to 5 notice, StationLink route 19 runs every 30 minutes between PA Hospital and Rocklea. Normal fares apply to railbuses, and journey times can vary with road traffic. For October 6 onward, check the bus options covering Banoon to Boggo Road rather than carrying forward the full Varsity Lakes replacement pattern.
Queensland Rail’s planned track closures calendar is another official check for works. Translink’s extended schedule links the dated operating notices for October 3 to 5, October 6 to 9, and October 10 to 11. Read the notice that matches the actual journey, then recheck it before departure.
Bikes, Assistance, and the Historical Redcliffe Closure
Bikes and e-scooters cannot be taken on railbuses. If you planned to roll a bike onto a Gold Coast train, that option is closed for the replacement buses. Large-item rules on buses are stricter than on trains. Pack accordingly or leave the bike at the hotel.
For station access questions, Translink points passengers to Queensland Rail during business hours, including SMS to 0428 774 636. Outside those hours, Translink’s contact centre is 13 12 30. If you need a step-free route, confirm the replacement-bus stop and transfer arrangement before travel; it may differ from the usual platform entrance.
The Redcliffe Peninsula line closure between Kippa-Ring and Petrie on September 26 and 27 was a separate maintenance impact in the weekend notice. Those dates have passed. The notice says that line is not affected by this particular closure at other times; check for separate current notices before making a Redcliffe trip.
October 3 to 5 and October 6 to 11 Need Different Plans
The upcoming October 3 to 5 window is three days and includes Monday. A long-weekend itinerary that assumes Gold Coast or Beenleigh trains return on Monday, October 5, still needs the Varsity Lakes to Boggo Road railbus plan. The service pattern changes on October 6, rather than returning immediately to the normal timetable.
From October 6 to 11, plan around combined Beenleigh and Gold Coast trains between Varsity Lakes and Banoon and the train-free Banoon to Boggo Road gap. The October 6 to 9 notice gives the combined all-stop train frequency as every 15 minutes. For October 10 and 11, use that weekend’s linked notice for exact departures rather than extending a weekday frequency without checking.
Hotel and park days on the Gold Coast can still work. The issue is the date-specific heavy-rail connection, not a closure of the destination. Use local light rail where it suits the trip, the replacement buses required by the relevant notice, and the October 6 to 11 southern combined-train service when it fits. Allow extra time for a Brisbane flight or fixed appointment.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Travel October 3 to 5 | Use railbuses between Varsity Lakes and Boggo Road; allow extra time. |
| Travel October 6 to 11 | Use combined trains Varsity Lakes to Banoon and the replacement connection toward Boggo Road. |
| Connect with Brisbane Airport | Match the date and time to the Airport line terminal pattern; leave time for the transfer. |
| Take a bike or e-scooter | Do not assume it can travel on the replacement bus; the railbus restriction remains. |
October 3 to 5: railbuses replace the Varsity Lakes to Boggo Road train corridor, including Monday, October 5.
October 6 to 11: combined trains run between Varsity Lakes and Banoon, with no trains between Banoon and Boggo Road. Match the transfer to the date.
October 11 is the end of the published extended works period. That is a timetable boundary, not proof that every service resumes normally afterward. Recheck the operator before travel.
