Flying is dated from December 17, 2026, to March 21, 2027. If a winter UAE trip or a faster one-stop path to India and Asia is on the board, the booking window is open now.

The Swedavia newsroom note dated August 12, 2026, at 12:38 says Etihad will fly between Göteborg Landvetter Airport, coded GOT, and Abu Dhabi, coded AUH, four times a week from December 17, 2026.
Swedavia names an Airbus A321LR with 160 seats across First, Business, and Economy. It also says bookings opened the same day.
Etihad’s August 12 release matches that start date and frequency, then adds the seasonal end of March 21, 2027. Treat the airline page as the booking clock and Swedavia as the airport confirmation.
They agree on the city pair, the December 17 start, and the four-times-weekly pattern. They do not list weekdays, flight numbers, or a fare.
Sweden Herald’s August 12 recap, adapted from TT News Agency, repeats the Swedavia core: a December Landvetter to Abu Dhabi launch, four weekly flights, and the first direct Gothenburg to UAE link.
That independent recap does not name the March 21 end or the cabin split. Those details stay on the Etihad page.
Swedavia CEO Mats Johannesson called the route the first direct connection between Gothenburg and the United Arab Emirates. He said it would strengthen West Sweden’s reach into the Middle East, India, and Southeast Asia.
That is an airport operator statement, not a promise that every Asia itinerary will be shorter than today’s one-stop options.
How the A321LR product actually works
Etihad says the A321LR is the newest aircraft in its fleet and the reason a three-cabin Gothenburg route is possible at this scale. The published layout is two First Suites, 14 Business seats, and 144 Economy seats.
That is 160 seats, matching Swedavia’s count. The two official pages are describing the same airplane rather than two configurations.
First and Business are described as fully flat beds with direct aisle access. Economy is described with 13.3-inch 4K seatback screens, and high-speed Wi-Fi is listed across all cabins.
Those are product claims on the airline page, not a Deep Arrival seat review. They are also not the same cabin as Etihad’s long-haul 787 or A380 layouts.
The A321LR is a long-range narrowbody. On a Gothenburg to Abu Dhabi sector it can carry a full three-cabin product without needing a widebody that West Sweden may not fill in winter. That is why Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said the aircraft makes a route like this possible at a scale that suits Gothenburg. The useful translation is simple: this is not a no-frills shuttle, and it is also not The Residence on an A380.
If the cabin choice is the booking decision, compare the live seat map on Etihad.com before paying for First or Business. The August 12 release describes the installed product. It does not publish a seat map or a guarantee that every winter departure will use that same A321LR.
What the hub connection changes
Today a Gothenburg traveler bound for Abu Dhabi, India, or Southeast Asia usually changes in another European hub. Etihad’s pitch is that an evening arrival in Abu Dhabi opens one-stop onward flying to Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Singapore, Hanoi, Bali, Shanghai, Taipei, Bengaluru, and Colombo.
Those cities are named on the airline page. They are existing hub connections, not new Etihad destinations created for Gothenburg.
The hub story only helps if the connection is legal, timed, and ticketed on one Etihad itinerary. A self-transfer with a separate ticket still carries the usual missed-connection risk.
Etihad also restates its complimentary Abu Dhabi Stopover for eligible connecting guests, with a hotel stay of up to two nights. Eligible is the load-bearing word.
Do not assume every Gothenburg ticket includes a free hotel.
Abu Dhabi itself is the other product. Etihad names mangrove kayaking at Jubail, the Saadiyat museums, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Gulf beaches, and Yas Island.

Westbound travelers flying into Gothenburg for a Swedish winter trip get a different plan. Etihad points to the archipelago, Haga’s wooden streets, seafood markets, and the Christmas lights at Liseberg.

Business travelers in West Sweden should still compare total trip time, not just the new nonstop. A morning meeting in Mumbai or Singapore may still be faster on a competing one-stop if the Abu Dhabi connection sits overnight.

The weekday pattern is the biggest open item. Four times a week can mean several different winter grids.
Until Etihad publishes times, do not lock a cruise, a park reservation, or a connecting long-haul around a guessed Tuesday departure.
The March 21, 2027, end is a seasonal close, not a hint that the route will return the next winter. Etihad did not publish a summer 2027 continuation.
Winter operations at Landvetter are a real planning fact and an unpublished one. Swedavia did not attach a de-icing or cancellation note to this launch, so build a buffer if the Abu Dhabi connection is tight.
Cabin substitution is also unpublished. If First or the two Suites are the reason you bought, recheck the equipment field before you leave for the airport.
