Downtown Disney Free Halloween Movie Nights Return September 9

Disneyland Resort has posted eight free Movie Nights at the Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage presented by Honda, on Wednesday evenings from 9 September through 28 October 2026. The official Downtown Disney Must-Sees page lists the dates and tells guests to check back weekly and follow @downtowndisney for showtimes.

You do not need a park ticket. This is a district screening next to the parks, not a replacement for Halloween Time or Oogie Boogie Bash. If you are driving, start with Deep Arrival’s Downtown Disney parking and validation guide before you lock a Wednesday evening around dinner.

At a Glance
  • What: Free Movie Nights at Downtown Disney LIVE! Stage presented by Honda.
  • When: Wednesdays 9, 16, 23, 30 September and 7, 14, 21, 28 October 2026.
  • Where: Outdoor stage between Din Tai Fung and Parkside Market, no park ticket required.
  • Still open: Titles and start times, via @downtowndisney each week.
  • Action: Pick a Wednesday, plan parking, and wait for the weekly title post before you travel.

Eight Wednesday Dates Are Now on the Official Calendar

The Must-Sees listing is the load-bearing schedule. It names Movie Nights at Downtown Disney District, places them at the LIVE! Stage presented by Honda, and prints the eight experience dates. It does not print a clock time. It does not print the 2026 film titles. Those two gaps are real, not a reporting miss.

The Orange County Register confirmed the same Wednesday run from 9 September through 28 October and located the screenings at the outdoor stage between Din Tai Fung and Parkside Market. That independent report also said Halloween-themed food will be served during the nights. Treat food availability as reported by the Register, and confirm at the stalls when you arrive, because menus change without a Must-Sees update.

Last year’s inaugural series started around 7 p.m., according to the Register. That is useful planning context, not a 2026 promise. If you are coming from a hotel, a park day, or a dinner reservation, do not lock a 7 p.m. assumption until @downtowndisney posts the weekly time.

The first night is 9 September 2026, five days from this publication. That is close enough that a family already in Anaheim can put it on the calendar now and fill the title later. A traveler still booking flights should treat the eight Wednesdays as a district evening option, not as a reason to add an extra hotel night on their own.

No Park Ticket, but Parking and Arrival Still Matter

Downtown Disney is the shopping, dining, and entertainment district beside Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Movie Nights sit on that public side of the gates. You can watch without buying park admission, which is the entire point if you are staying off property, traveling with someone who does not want a park day, or already spent the day inside and want a cheap evening.

Arrival still has friction. The district fills on autumn Wednesdays, and validation rules at the Simba lot and nearby garages change the cost of an evening that looks free at the screen. Use the parking guide first, then the broader Disneyland Resort parking map if you are combining a park day with a later screening.

If you used a rideshare last month, the new drop-off that Deep Arrival covered in the August Downtown Disney curb change is the right chronology, not a second story about movies. Walk from that curb toward Parkside Market rather than toward the Esplanade if you want the stage, not the turnstiles.

Check Disneyland Park hours only if you are stacking a park day onto the same Wednesday. Park close and a 7-ish movie can collide with security, bag check, and the walk to the district. People staying for fireworks should not assume they can exit and still claim a good viewing spot at the Honda stage.

Titles Stay Weekly, So Plan the Date Before the Film

The official page is explicit: check back weekly and follow @downtowndisney for showtimes. The Register says Disneyland has not announced the 2026 lineup and that last year’s films included The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frankenweenie, Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, Hocus Pocus 2, and the 2023 Haunted Mansion. That 2025 list is history, not this year’s bill.

Do not book a Wednesday because you want a specific title. Book it because you want a free outdoor Disney movie in the district, then let the Instagram post decide whether you stay for the film or just eat nearby. If the posted title is a repeat you have already seen, the night is still useful as a low-cost gathering spot.

Bring layers. Anaheim evenings in September and October cool after sunset, and the stage is outdoors. Seating is not reserved on the official listing. Arrive early enough to stand or sit without blocking restaurants. Din Tai Fung and Parkside Market will be serving paying guests who are not there for the movie.

Keep kids’ expectations honest. This is a district screening, not a theater with assigned seats, and not a substitute for a park overlay. If the weekly post is late, check the Must-Sees page the same afternoon you travel. Dates are subject to change, which the official page already warns in nearby listings.

This Series Is Separate from Halloween Time Inside the Parks

Disney Parks Blog lists Halloween Time at Disneyland Resort from 21 August through 31 October 2026, with Oogie Boogie Bash on select nights and Plaza de la Familia at Disney California Adventure running into early November. Those products need park tickets, and the party needs a separate ticket. Movie Nights do not replace them.

Use the free series when you want an Anaheim evening without a reservation window. Use Halloween Time when you want Haunted Mansion Holiday, Cars Land overlays, or character costumes inside the gates. Use Oogie Boogie Bash only if you already hold that party ticket. Mixing the three on one calendar is smart. Treating them as the same product is how people miss a paid party or stand in the district expecting Jack Skellington to walk by on cue.

The Honda stage sits in a commercial district. You will hear restaurants, see shopping bags, and share space with people who did not come for a film. That is the trade for a free night. If you need a quiet, ticketed show, this is the wrong product.

For a family already paying for a hotel near the resort, the eight Wednesdays are the cheapest official Disney entertainment on the calendar this fall. Put 9 September on the list tonight. Confirm the title the week of. Then walk in without a park reservation.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Are already in Anaheim on a listed Wednesday Plan dinner near Parkside Market, then watch once @downtowndisney posts the time.
Need a free evening without park tickets Pick one of the eight dates and skip Halloween Time that night.
Want a specific 2026 title Wait for the weekly Instagram post. Do not assume last year’s films return.
Are stacking a park day onto 9 September Check park hours and leave extra time to walk to the Honda stage after exit.
Planning Impact

9 September 2026 is the first screening. Put that Wednesday on the calendar now and fill the title from @downtowndisney the same week.

Weekly Instagram posts are the title and time gate. Do not travel for a specific film until that week’s post is live.

28 October 2026 is the last listed night. After that date, this free series is over unless Disney adds dates.
