Disney World Opens New Floridian Way Roundabouts

Walt Disney World has opened a new section of Floridian Way with two roundabouts, changing how drivers approach Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the Polynesian area, the Wedding Pavilion, and roads near Magic Kingdom.

The road is open, but the project is not finished. Temporary connectors and construction barrels remain, and a third roundabout plus permanent resort entrances are still part of the broader traffic plan.

What changed on Floridian Way

WDW News Today documented the opened roadway on August 10, showing fresh pavement, directional signs, barrels, and two completed roundabouts outside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

The new stretch runs between the Magic Kingdom parking area and the Grand Floridian entrance zone. It connects back to the original road near Maple Road and Reams Road by Disney Fire Station 3.

The operational change is more important than the amount of new asphalt. Drivers who learned the old Floridian Way and Seven Seas Drive pattern can no longer rely on memory at every turn.

The former Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way intersection has been permanently closed, according to the report. Seven Seas Drive now ends at the Polynesian’s main entrance, while through traffic uses the newer World Drive North and Floridian Way system.

That change separates some resort traffic from the older approach but also introduces roundabout decisions unfamiliar to occasional visitors. Watch the lane signs early, reduce speed, and avoid making a sudden cross lane move after the splitter island begins.

How the two roundabouts work

Both operating circles sit outside the Grand Floridian area. Directional signs identify resort and roadway choices, but the construction environment can make the next decision feel closer than it appears on a navigation screen.

Drivers already in a roundabout have priority over vehicles entering. Choose the lane indicated for the destination before entering, then signal and exit without stopping inside the circle unless traffic requires it.

Which Disney destinations are affected
