Disney Cruise Line has added a Christmas Eve call in Cozumel to Disney Magic’s 5-night Very Merrytime sailing from Galveston, according to a guest email reported by Cruise Hive on Sept. 10. The ship still leaves Texas on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2026. The new port sits on Thursday, Dec. 24, from 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m., on a day that had been at sea.
If you are booked on that voyage, the decision is whether to go ashore in Cozumel on Christmas Eve, keep a Dec. 24 onboard appointment, or do both in a shortened window. For how this 1,750-guest ship compares with its larger sister before you lock tours, see Deep Arrival’s Disney Dream vs Disney Magic guide.
- Sailing: Disney Magic, 5-night Very Merrytime cruise, Galveston round trip, Dec. 22 to 27, 2026.
- New port: Cozumel on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Unchanged: Progreso on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Galveston arrival about 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 27.
- Notice: Disney began emailing booked guests on Sept. 9, citing a change in port availability.
- Next step: Recheck Dec. 24 spa, dining, and boutique times, then book Cozumel Port Adventures in the app.
Christmas Eve in Cozumel Replaces a Sea Day
The revised grid is simple. Dec. 22 is embarkation in Galveston, with all aboard by 3 p.m. Dec. 23 remains a sea day. Dec. 24 is now Cozumel instead of a second sea day. Dec. 25 is still Progreso. Dec. 26 is a sea day home. Dec. 27 is Galveston arrival.
Disney’s email, as quoted by Cruise Hive, said the line was “pleased to offer the opportunity” to visit Cozumel because of a change in port availability. That is an add, not a swap of Progreso. Guests who already built Christmas Day around the Yucatan call keep that plan. Guests who built Christmas Eve around a sea-day spa block or Palo seating now have a port day in the way.
Cozumel hours are 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. That is a short Mexican Caribbean call. It is long enough for a beach club, a snorkel, or a downtown walk, and short enough that a late tender or a slow return can collide with all-aboard. Treat 6 p.m. as a hard back-on-board time, not a suggestion.
Galveston Dates and the Rest of the 5-Night Grid Stay Put
Disney did not move the Galveston departure or return. The Port of Galveston remains the home port, a Texas gateway the port authority describes as the fourth most popular cruise home port in the United States, with about 4 million passenger movements a year through four terminals. Parking, flights, and hotel nights on Dec. 21 and Dec. 27 do not change because Cozumel was added.
That matters for anyone who already bought nonrefundable air into Houston or Galveston around the original dates. You do not need a new flight. You do need a new Dec. 24 plan. Deep Arrival’s Disney Magic ship review is the onboard map for that choice: which spaces stay useful if you skip the island, and which ones will be quieter while most families go ashore.
A related Galveston booking window on Disney Magic’s 2027 to 2028 Galveston season is a separate stream. This story is only the Dec. 22, 2026 Very Merrytime itinerary now carrying two Mexican ports instead of one.
Onboard Appointments on Dec 24 Need a Second Look
Cruise Hive notes that guests with Dec. 24 reservations at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Senses Spa and Salon, or the adults-only restaurant Palo may want to move those times if they intend to use the Cozumel window. Disney has not said those venues close in port. The constraint is the clock: 11:15 a.m. arrival and 6 p.m. departure leave a thin overlap with a 90-minute spa block or a Palo lunch.
If the appointment is the reason you booked this sailing, keep it and treat Cozumel as optional. If the island is the gift, move the appointment to Dec. 23 or Dec. 26, the two remaining sea days. Do that in the Disney Cruise Line app or with onboard Guest Services once you embark, rather than assuming the original Dec. 24 slot will still feel like a sea day.
Kids’ clubs, crafts, trivia, and character greetings are expected to continue, with some timing shifted around the port call. That is Cruise Hive’s reading of a typical Disney port day, not a new official activity schedule. Recheck the Navigator once it publishes the Dec. 24 grid, likely after you are onboard.
Cozumel Will Be Busy on Christmas Eve
Cruise Hive lists six other ships also scheduled in Cozumel on Dec. 24: Viking Sky, Viking Mars, Norwegian Luna, Celebrity Reflection, Carnival Paradise, and Star of the Seas. That is a crowded pier day. Tenders, taxi lines, and popular beach clubs can slow down even when the island is used to holiday ships.
Local shops set their own Christmas Eve hours. Some will stay open because cruise spending is the day’s income. Some will not. Do not count on a specific retailer or a last-minute tour kiosk. Book a Disney Port Adventure or a known operator before you sail, and keep a no-tour backup that still works if a storefront is dark.
Progreso on Christmas Day is unchanged, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Two Mexico calls in two days is a different stamina question than one call plus two sea days. Families with small children may want one full shore day and one ship day, not both islands at full speed.
Port Adventures Open Now on the New Call
Disney says Cozumel tours can be booked on the Disney Cruise Line website, in the app, or at the Port Adventures Desk on Deck 3, starboard in the atrium, once you are onboard. Inventory for Christmas Eve will not behave like a random Tuesday. If you want a specific snorkel or beach club, book before the sailing, not at the desk on Dec. 23.
Disney has not published a compensation note for the added port. Nights onboard are unchanged. Shore excursions already held for Dec. 24 sea-day programming do not apply, because that day was not a port. The only automatic change is the itinerary itself. Anything you add in Cozumel is a new purchase.
Before you sail, confirm three things: the Cozumel hours still read 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. on your reservation, your Dec. 24 onboard bookings either move or stay on purpose, and your Galveston arrival and parking plans still match Dec. 22 and Dec. 27. The overlay is a gift with a clock on it.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Want Cozumel on Christmas Eve | Book a Port Adventure now and move any Dec. 24 spa, Palo, or boutique time to a sea day. |
| Want a quiet ship day on Dec. 24 | Keep onboard reservations and skip the island; the ship remains in port until 6 p.m. |
| Already planned Progreso for Christmas | Leave Dec. 25 as it is, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and treat Cozumel as the extra call, not a replacement. |
| Have flights and hotels around Galveston | Keep them. Embarkation is still Dec. 22 with all aboard by 3 p.m.; return is still about 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 27. |
Sept. 9 was the notice date. Disney started emailing booked guests then. If you have not seen the Cozumel add, check the reservation and the app before you assume the old sea-day grid.
Dec. 24, 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. is the new shore window. Plan tours and taxis inside that block, and be back well before all aboard.
Dec. 22 and Dec. 27 are unchanged in Galveston. Do not rebook air or hotels unless your own flights already conflicted with the original times.
Did Disney Magic add Cozumel to the Christmas 2026 cruise?
Yes. Disney Cruise Line told guests the Dec. 22, 2026 Galveston Very Merrytime sailing now visits Cozumel on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, from 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Does the Disney Magic still go to Progreso on Christmas Day?
Yes. Progreso remains on Friday, Dec. 25, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cozumel is an added call, not a replacement.
When does Disney Magic leave and return to Galveston?
The ship still departs Galveston on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2026, with all aboard by 3 p.m., and returns Sunday, Dec. 27, with debarkation around 7:30 a.m.
How do I book Cozumel tours on Disney Magic?
Disney Port Adventures for Cozumel can be booked on the Disney Cruise Line website, in the app, or at the Port Adventures Desk on Deck 3 once you are onboard.
Should I change spa or Palo reservations on Dec. 24?
Only if you want the island. Keep the appointment if the ship is the point of the day. Move it to Dec. 23 or Dec. 26 if you plan to go ashore in Cozumel.
Will Cozumel be crowded on Christmas Eve 2026?
Cruise Hive lists six other ships also in Cozumel that day. Expect slower lines at the pier and book tours before you sail rather than walking up on Dec. 24.
