Delta Air Lines updated its Northeast weather notice at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 27, 2026, warning that Boston Logan International Airport cancellations are expected to continue into Monday, September 28. The same afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Airspace System status feed listed a wind-driven Boston ground stop until 3:30 p.m. ET and a Boston ground delay program averaging 4 hours and 3 minutes, with a maximum of 7 hours and 6 minutes.
If you hold a Delta ticket to, from, or through Boston for travel on September 26 through 29, the airline’s BOS Weather Flexibility waiver still lets you change the flight at no extra cost as long as the new trip starts by October 2. Use that window before you sit in a terminal, and start from Deep Arrival’s airline planning hub if you need a second carrier as a backup.

Boston Logan Waiver Dates and Ticket Rules
Delta’s BOS Weather Flexibility page is the controlling document for Boston tickets. It covers travel to, from, or through Boston Logan on September 26 through 29, 2026. Eligible customers can change the flight at no extra cost, or cancel and take an eCredit for later travel, if they stay inside the published window.
To keep the fare difference waived, the new departure must be on or before October 2, 2026, in the same cabin as the original ticket. The policy applies only to tickets issued on or before September 25, 2026. If you bought the ticket on September 26 or later, this Boston waiver does not apply, even if the flight is delayed today.
If the original booking class is sold out, Delta can still require a fare difference. Changes to origin or destination can also trigger a new fare. If you cannot rebook inside the window, unused ticket value can be applied to a new ticket within one year of the original issue date, with any fare difference collected at booking and travel finished by the ticket’s validity date.
Northeast Airports Follow a Shorter Window
Boston is not the only city on a waiver. Delta’s separate Northeast Weather Flexibility page covers New York Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark, Philadelphia, Portland in Maine, Providence, and White Plains. Impacted travel dates on that page are September 26 through 28, 2026, one day shorter than Boston.
The Northeast rebook deadline is October 1, 2026, not October 2. Tickets must have been issued on or before September 26, 2026. If your itinerary only touches JFK, LGA, or EWR, do not rely on the Boston October 2 date. If the trip includes both Boston and a New York airport, check both pages and keep the stricter ticket-issue cutoff.
Delta’s September 27 operations update says the Northeast waiver was extended as the storm continued, and that the Boston waiver remains available. Customers with changed flights should get a message from Delta. Confirm the new itinerary in the Delta app before you leave for the airport, because an auto-rebook can land you on a later bank than you would pick yourself.
FAA Wind Programs at Boston and New York
Independent of Delta’s waiver copy, the FAA’s airport status feed at 2:29 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 27 listed Boston in two programs: a wind ground stop until 3:30 p.m. ET, and a wind ground delay averaging 4 hours and 3 minutes, with a maximum of 7 hours and 6 minutes. A ground stop holds inbound departures. A delay program then meters those flights with assigned wait times.
LaGuardia averaged 2 hours and 19 minutes, Kennedy 52 minutes, and Philadelphia 48 minutes, all for wind. Recheck the feed before you leave home. Ending the ground stop does not cancel the delay program, and Sunday’s four-hour Boston average can linger into Monday’s first banks.
Fuel Limits and Monday Cancellations
Delta’s Sunday update names a second Logan constraint: weather has limited fuel deliveries into BOS. The airline is arriving with extra fuel for the next departure and using tanker trucks where it can. A jet that cannot load legal dispatch fuel will cancel even after winds ease.
The same update expects more cancellations on Monday, September 28, with fewer impacts than Sunday if that mitigation holds. That is a forecast, not a finished Monday list. If you can move a Monday Boston trip to Tuesday, September 29, still inside the Boston waiver, that is often cleaner than standing by for a depleted bank.

How to Change a Ticket or Get a Refund
Change flights in the Delta app or on My Trips at delta.com. For U.S. domestic trips, the app’s self-service standby list can place you on an earlier last-leg flight when space exists. Use that after you hold a confirmed ticket, not instead of the waiver.
If a U.S. domestic Delta delay hits three hours or more and you choose not to fly the delayed flight or the rebooked trip, Delta says you can receive a full refund of the unflown portion, including ancillary and checked-bag fees. International itineraries use a six-hour delay threshold. A customer-initiated cancel inside the waiver usually yields an eCredit, not cash, unless Delta already cancelled the flight and no acceptable alternate exists.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Hold a Boston ticket for September 26 to 29, issued by September 25 | Rebook in the Delta app by October 2, 2026, in the same cabin to keep the fare difference waived. |
| Hold a JFK, LGA, EWR, PHL, PWM, PVD, or HPN ticket for September 26 to 28 | Use the Northeast waiver and finish the change by October 1, 2026. |
| Already face a U.S. delay of three hours or more and do not want to fly | Ask for a refund of the unflown portion, including bag and seat fees, instead of an eCredit. |
| Need to fly Monday, September 28, through Boston | Expect more cancellations, confirm fuel and flight status before leaving home, and keep the October 2 rebook window as backup. |
3:30 p.m. ET Sunday, September 27 is the posted Boston ground-stop end. Recheck the FAA feed after that time. A dropped stop can still leave the 4-hour ground delay program in place.
September 28 is the last Northeast waiver travel date and a Delta-flagged cancellation day at Boston. Move a New York trip off Monday if you can, or rebook by October 1.
October 2, 2026 is the Boston fare-waiver deadline. Same-cabin changes after that date can cost a fare difference even if the original flight was in the storm window.
Does Delta still waive Boston flights on September 29?
Yes. The BOS Weather Flexibility page lists impacted travel dates of September 26 through 29, 2026, for flights to, from, or through Boston.
When do I have to rebook a Delta Boston ticket?
Change the flight on or before October 2, 2026, and start the new trip on or before that same date to keep the same-cabin fare difference waived.
What FAA delay is in effect at Boston Logan today?
As of 2:29 p.m. ET on September 27, 2026, the FAA listed a Boston wind ground stop until 3:30 p.m. ET and a wind ground delay averaging 4 hours and 3 minutes.
Which New York airports are on Delta’s Northeast waiver?
Kennedy, LaGuardia, Newark, and White Plains, plus Philadelphia, Portland in Maine, and Providence, for travel on September 26 through 28, with changes due by October 1.
Can I get a cash refund instead of an eCredit?
If a U.S. domestic Delta delay hits three hours or more and you choose not to fly, Delta says you can receive a full refund of the unflown portion, including ancillary and bag fees.
Why can Boston still cancel after the wind drops?
Delta said the storm has constrained fuel deliveries into Logan, so aircraft may lack dispatch fuel even after the FAA ground stop ends.
