Two Colorado Springs hotels, The Broadmoor and The Mining Exchange, now hold a Michelin Key, the Michelin Guide’s hotel award, Colorado Public Radio reported on Friday, October 2, 2026. Each earned one Key, which Michelin defines as a very special stay, and the pair bring Colorado to 16 Key hotels.

The Keys appear in the Michelin Guide’s 2026 United States selection, published Friday, September 18, 2026. For the wider picture, our report on the 2026 Michelin Keys covers the new global list.

At a Glance
  • New Key hotels: The Broadmoor and The Mining Exchange, Colorado Springs.
  • Award: One Michelin Key each, a very special stay.
  • Colorado total: 16 Key hotels.
  • Top rated in Colorado: Dunton Hot Springs near Dolores, with two Keys.
  • Selection published: September 18, 2026.

What a Michelin Key Means

Keys are Michelin’s hotel equivalent of restaurant stars, Axios Colorado Springs reported. The guide judges hotels on architecture and interior design, quality of service, personality, value for money and contribution to the local community.

There are three levels. One Key marks a very special stay, two Keys an exceptional stay and three Keys an extraordinary stay, according to 5280 magazine. No Colorado hotel holds three Keys, and Dunton Hot Springs near Dolores is the only one in the state with two, Axios reported.

The Broadmoor Earns a Key

The Broadmoor is the large historic resort at the foot of Cheyenne Mountain, southwest of downtown. Michelin’s write up, quoted by Colorado Public Radio, calls it “as posh as ever,” with guest rooms that are “elegantly designed, European in style (not a hint of Old West rusticism), furnished with rich antiques and chandeliers, many bathrooms with soaking tubs and separate showers.”

The resort is known for its golf, spa and dining, and its accommodations range from standard suites to two bedroom brownstones, 5280 reported. With so many room types, prices vary widely by season and category, so compare a few room types for your dates before you book.

The Mining Exchange Earns a Key

The Mining Exchange is a downtown hotel set in historic buildings. Michelin’s description, quoted by Colorado Public Radio, says “the lobby leans into Victorian grandeur with gold-toned furnishings that acknowledge the city’s mining past, an antique Franz Wirth piano, and a marble fireplace.”

The hotel has 128 rooms spread across Italian Renaissance buildings with Art Deco details, and it preserved steel vaults on every floor, 5280 reported. The staff did not know Michelin inspectors had visited. “We didn’t know they stayed,” sales director Amy Handlin told Colorado Public Radio. “When we found out, we were floored.”

Where Else in Colorado Has a Key?

The Michelin Guide’s 2026 list gives one Key to Hotel Jerome, Mollie Aspen and The Little Nell in Aspen; Clayton Hotel and Members Club, Four Seasons Hotel Denver, Populus and The Crawford Hotel in Denver; The Armstrong Hotel and The Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins; Lumière by Dunton and Madeline Hotel and Residences in Telluride; and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail and Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail. Dunton Hot Springs holds two Keys.

Colorado Springs also has three hotels on Michelin’s wider selected list without a Key: Hotel Polaris, Kinship Landing and SCP Hotel Colorado Springs, Axios reported. Those are worth a look if the Key hotels are full or above your budget.

Planning a Colorado Springs Stay

The two Key hotels suit different trips. The Broadmoor is a self contained resort, a good fit if you want golf, a spa and dining on site, and a car helps for reaching the city’s sights. The Mining Exchange puts you downtown, within walking distance of restaurants and bars, with Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak a drive away.

Fall weekends and holidays tend to book up first, so reserve early if your dates are fixed. Michelin does not publish rates with its Keys, so check the total price, including any resort or parking fees, directly with each hotel.
