Circle Line Closed Edgware Road to Aldgate Oct 10 to 11

Transport for London will run no Circle line trains between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, 2026. The same weekend takes out District line service between Edgware Road and Tower Hill and the western branches to Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond, and Wimbledon. Anyone with a hotel near Victoria, a ticket for the Tower, or a Sunday in Kew needs a new path now, not at the ticket barrier.

TfL’s live status board for those dates names replacement buses on the District and a Mildmay line overlay between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond. My London listed the same Circle and District shutdowns in its October closures roundup dated September 30. If your plan is the Tower, read the Tower of London visit guide and then rebuild the ride in from a still-running line. This is a different weekend from the Jubilee Green Park to Canary Wharf closure on October 3 to 4.

At a Glance
  • Circle line: No service Edgware Road to Aldgate via Victoria on Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11.
  • District line: No service Edgware Road and Tower Hill to Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond, and Wimbledon those two days.
  • Richmond overlay: Use Mildmay line between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond.
  • Buses: TfL listed District replacement buses DL1, DL3, DL4, and DL5.
  • DLR: No service Stratford International to Woolwich Arsenal the same weekend; no DLR replacement bus.

Circle Line Stops Between Edgware Road and Aldgate

The Circle line closure is the one that hits the most first-time visitors. TfL will run no trains on the Edgware Road to Aldgate arc that goes through Victoria, Westminster, Embankment, Temple, Blackfriars, Monument, and Tower Hill. That is the loop people use for Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, the South Bank change at Embankment, and the Tower. Do not count on a Circle train to stitch those stops together on October 10 or 11.

Edgware Road remains the western hinge. Aldgate remains the eastern hinge. The missing piece is everything via Victoria. If your hotel is at Victoria, you still have the Victoria line and National Rail, but you lose the easy Circle hop to Westminster and Tower Hill. Walk, bus, or change to a north-south line instead of waiting for a yellow train that is not in the timetable.

The printed planned-track-closures list dated Friday, October 2, matches the live board. Recheck the morning you travel. Engineering windows can shift at the edges, but the two-day span is the plan TfL is publishing now.

District Line Western Branches

The District line loss is wider than the Circle. TfL will run no District trains between Edgware Road and Tower Hill and the western terminals at Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond, and Wimbledon on both days. That is the line visitors use for Earl’s Court, South Kensington museums, Putney Bridge, and Kew. For Richmond, TfL says use Mildmay line services between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond. Kensington (Olympia) is on the closed list, so exhibition traffic is affected. Wimbledon and Putney need the replacement buses on both the outbound and the return.

Replacement Buses TfL Is Running

TfL named four District replacement bus services on the live board. DL1 runs Hammersmith to Acton Town via Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green, Chiswick Park, and Gunnersbury. DL3 is early morning only, when the Mildmay line is not running, from Earl’s Court to Richmond via Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Gunnersbury, and Kew Gardens. Use DL3 only in that early window.

DL4 covers Hammersmith to Wimbledon via Putney Bridge, East Putney, Southfields, and Wimbledon Park. DL5 covers Earl’s Court to Wimbledon via West Brompton, Fulham Broadway, Parsons Green, Putney Bridge, Putney National Rail, and Tibbetts Corner for Southfields. Those two are the Wimbledon pair. Check TfL for the replacement-bus route, journey time, and any boarding or ticket instructions. The reviewed closure notice does not give a fixed delay allowance or state a tap-ready boarding requirement.

There is no Circle replacement bus in the status text. Circle travelers should not wait for a DL bus that is mapped to District streets. Change to the Victoria, Northern, Central, or Elizabeth line, or walk the short central London segments, instead of hunting a yellow-line substitute that TfL did not list.

DLR Gap to Woolwich the Same Weekend

On Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, the DLR will have no service between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal. TfL says to use local buses, Underground, and Elizabeth line services for Woolwich. No DLR replacement bus will operate. Elizabeth line has a narrower Sunday cut: no service between West Drayton and Slough until 8:15 a.m. on October 11, with bus W1 from Hayes and Harlington to Slough via West Drayton and Langley, not serving Iver. Do not mix this weekend with the later Piccadilly Heathrow shutdown on October 17 to 18.

How to Reach Victoria, the Tower, and Richmond

For Victoria, use the Victoria line, National Rail, or buses. For the Tower, use another line and walk or bus the last stretch; do not rely on the closed Circle arc or central and western District segments at Tower Hill. Check TfL for any other District service and your specific route. For Kew and Richmond, use the Mildmay line between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond, plus DL3 in the early morning if Mildmay is not yet running. For Wimbledon, use DL4 or DL5, or National Rail into Wimbledon if that service is running. A Saturday Tower entry from a Victoria hotel is still doable if you leave earlier. A District ride from South Kensington to Richmond is not.

Later October Closures Already on the Same List

TfL’s October 2 closures PDF already names the next wave. Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, close the Piccadilly line from Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge, including Night Tube. That airport weekend is a separate stream. Use it when your dates are October 17 to 18. Use this post when your dates are October 10 to 11.

The Circle and District return to the printed list on October 24 and 25 with another wide central gap. If you are in London for two weekends, plan both now. Recheck TfL’s status board the morning you travel. The official diversion for Richmond is the Mildmay line until TfL publishes a different instruction.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Need Victoria, Westminster, or Tower Hill on Oct. 10 or 11 Skip the Circle. Use the Victoria line, buses, or a walk from a still-running interchange.
Need Richmond or Kew Gardens Use the Mildmay line between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond. Add DL3 only in the early morning.
Need Wimbledon on the District Use replacement buses DL4 or DL5, or National Rail into Wimbledon if it is running.
Need Woolwich via DLR There is no DLR between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal and no replacement bus. Use the Elizabeth line or local buses.
Planning Impact

Saturday, October 10, is the first closed day. Circle via Victoria and the District western branches are out all day. Rebuild hotel-to-attraction rides on Friday night.

Sunday, October 11, is the second closed day. The same Circle and District gaps hold, with a morning Elizabeth line cut west of West Drayton until 8:15 a.m.

October 17 to 18 is the next airport weekend. Piccadilly to Heathrow is a later, separate closure. Do not mix those dates into this plan.

Frequently Asked

When is the Circle line closed in October 2026?

Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, with no service between Edgware Road and Aldgate via Victoria, according to TfL’s live status board.

Is the District line running to Richmond that weekend?

No. Use Mildmay line trains between Gunnersbury, Kew Gardens, and Richmond. TfL also listed early-morning bus DL3 when Mildmay is not running.

How do I get to Wimbledon without the District line?

TfL listed replacement buses DL4 from Hammersmith and DL5 from Earl’s Court. Confirm National Rail into Wimbledon separately.

Does the DLR run to Woolwich on October 10 and 11?

Not between Stratford International and Woolwich Arsenal. TfL says use buses, Underground, and the Elizabeth line. No DLR replacement bus will run.

Can I still reach the Tower of London?

Plan around the closed Circle arc and central and western District segments. The notice does not close every District segment serving Tower Hill. Check your exact TfL route, then walk or bus the last stretch if needed.

Is this the same as the Jubilee closure this weekend?

No. The Jubilee Green Park to Canary Wharf gap is October 3 to 4. Circle and District close October 10 to 11.
