Extra Golden Week trains will serve both Hangzhou East and Hangzhou West, but the station you need depends on the route. A new China Railway 12306 notice lists six additional service groups on selected dates from September 30 to October 8, 2026, connecting Hangzhou with cities in Fujian and Jiangxi.
The additions give holiday planners more trains to watch for, not a guarantee of an available seat. Check the full station name, train number and travel date together before committing to a hotel transfer or onward connection. The operator says station announcements govern the final details.
- Change: Six additional route-and-date groups.
- Window: Selected dates September 30 to October 8.
- Stations: Hangzhou East and Hangzhou West are both listed.
- Booking: Monitor 12306; an announcement is not a reservation.
The Extra Trains and Their Dates
The September 12 notice comes from China Railway Shanghai Group. Read each direction separately: the outbound and return dates are not identical, and the services do not all run daily.
- G4924: Xiamen North to Hangzhou East, September 30 and October 6.
- G4923: Hangzhou East to Zhangzhou, October 1 and 7.
- G4970: Ganzhou West to Hangzhou East, September 30 and October 7.
- G4969: Hangzhou East to Nanchang West, October 1 and 8.
- G4980: Jiujiang to Hangzhou West, September 30 and October 1, 6 and 7.
- G4979: Hangzhou West to Jiujiang, October 1, 2, 7 and 8.
These are additions in one regional notice, not a complete list of China’s holiday services. Use them as precise search targets when checking the booking system, rather than assuming that every departure between the named cities has changed.
East and West Change the Ground Transfer
Four of the listed service groups use Hangzhou East; the two Jiujiang groups use Hangzhou West. That distinction matters when you enter a pickup point or tell a driver where to meet you. A city-only search can help you compare options, but the ticket’s full station name should control the journey to or from the platform.
For a round trip, compare both confirmations before arranging transfers. Do not copy the arrival station into the return booking by habit. Likewise, check the direction shown beside the train number: finding a matching city pair is not enough if the train travels the opposite way on your chosen date.
If a proposed connection would require changing stations, evaluate that transfer as a separate journey. The notice does not supply transfer times or protect an onward booking. Leaving room in the itinerary is more useful than treating two services in the same city as an automatic connection.
More Capacity Does Not Mean Every Date Is Open
China Daily reported on September 9 that the national holiday rail travel period runs September 23 to October 8, with traffic expected to peak October 1. Its report describes an average of roughly 13,000 passenger trains a day and additional capacity adjusted in response to bookings.
The publication also reports that tickets released through capacity increases will go first to passengers with waiting-list orders. Its reporting corroborates the wider holiday plan, while the six exact service groups above come from the operator’s newer notice.
That makes a waiting-list request worth considering when your preferred service cannot be purchased. It remains a request, not a confirmed seat. Keep a workable alternative until the system confirms the journey, particularly before paying for an onward arrangement that cannot be changed.
Passport and Ticket Checks Before Travel
The official English-language 12306 FAQ confirms that foreign passengers can buy real-name tickets with valid passports. Enter the passenger’s name and document details accurately, and bring the same valid document used for the booking.
The FAQ also distinguishes an itinerary sheet from a ticket: a downloaded or printed itinerary is not itself the document used to check in. Keep the booking information accessible, but do not substitute a screenshot or printout for the required identity document.
Travel must match the date and train number on the ticket. If an extra departure looks better than the one already booked, inspect the applicable change conditions before giving up the existing arrangement. A new service announcement does not automatically transfer your reservation to it.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Want one of the extra trains | Search its exact number on the listed date. |
| Travel between Jiujiang and Hangzhou | Check the West station on both confirmations. |
| Cannot secure a seat | Consider waitlisting while retaining an alternative. |
| Already booked another departure | Check change conditions before replacing it. |
Before booking: Match the station, direction and date; the additions are selective.
Before departure: Recheck the confirmed journey and station notices, and carry the booking passport.
Do the extra Hangzhou trains run every day?
No. Each service has specific dates in the operator’s notice. Search the exact train and date, not just the overall holiday window.
Does a new train announcement guarantee a seat?
No. Availability must be confirmed in the booking system. A waiting-list request is also not a confirmed reservation.
Can foreign visitors use 12306?
Yes. The official English FAQ describes passport-based real-name booking. The passenger details and travel document must match.
Can I use my itinerary printout to board?
The official FAQ says an itinerary sheet is not a ticket for check-in. Retain the reservation information and bring the valid identification used to book.
