Carnival Cruise Line told guests on its September 17, 2026, Carnival Miracle sailing from Seattle to stay inside their assigned terminal arrival appointments at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91. The September 11 guest notice, reported by Cruise Hive, says people who arrive early will be asked to leave and come back in their designated window. The line has not changed the ship’s scheduled departure. The time printed on each boarding pass is still the one that matters.
That is a boarding-day logistics problem, not a cancelled cruise. Two large ships are expected at the same pier, a routine U.S. Coast Guard inspection is also on the calendar, and this is Carnival Miracle’s last Alaska departure of the season. Guests who treat Pier 91 like an open lobby will lose time in a turnaround loop. Deep Arrival’s Carnival Miracle ship guide is the place to confirm the vessel, cabin types, and Alaska-versus-Caribbean calendar before you lock a hotel or a Sea-Tac transfer.
- Ship and date: Carnival Miracle, Thursday, September 17, 2026, from Seattle.
- Terminal: Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91, not downtown Pier 66.
- Rule: Stay in your pre-selected Terminal Arrival Appointment. Early arrivals will be sent away.
- Why it is busy: A second ship shares Pier 91, and a routine Coast Guard inspection is scheduled the same day.
- Sailing: 9-night Alaska roundtrip returning September 26, then a Panama Canal repositioning from Seattle on September 26.
Carnival’s September 11 Notice Is Binding
Carnival sent the notice on September 11. The quoted language is operational, not optional. “To properly manage our embarkation operations, we kindly ask for your full cooperation with adherence to your pre-selected Terminal Arrival Appointment,” the notice said, according to Cruise Hive. A second line is the one that changes a hotel-to-pier plan: guests who arrive earlier than their assigned time will be asked to return within their designated timeframe.
That is different from a delayed all-aboard. Carnival has not announced a later sailing time. Guests are still expected to be on board by the cutoff printed on the boarding pass for the 88,500-gross-ton, 2,124-passenger Spirit-class ship. If your appointment is late morning and you show up at 8:30 a.m. with bags, the terminal can turn you around while porters, security, and the second ship’s guests are already in the building.
Carnival also repeated two embarkation basics that get sloppy on crowded days. Checked bags should go to Carnival porters in orange vests, not to a random curbside helper. Travel documents, medications, and anything you cannot sail without stay in a bag you carry yourself. Those points are not new policy. They matter more when the curb is shared and the inspection clock is running.
Two Ships Share Smith Cove on September 17
Carnival’s letter did not name the other ship. Cruise Hive, citing the Port of Seattle cruise schedule, identifies Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth as the second Pier 91 departure that Thursday. The port’s own schedule page is the live lookup for ship and terminal assignments, and it warns that the roster can change during the season. Treat the two-ship picture as the reason Carnival expects higher guest volume, then reconfirm the day’s lineup on the port site before you leave the hotel.
Seattle runs two cruise terminals about three miles apart. Carnival uses Smith Cove at Pier 91, north of downtown in Interbay. Norwegian and Oceania use Bell Street at Pier 66 on the downtown waterfront. A rideshare that only hears “the cruise port” can deliver you to the wrong pier. Deep Arrival’s Seattle cruise port guide maps that split, parking, and the airport-to-pier buffer. On September 17 the extra constraint is inside Pier 91 itself: two embarkations plus a Coast Guard inspection, not a downtown-versus-Interbay mix-up.
Public sailing listings put Carnival Miracle’s Seattle departure in the mid afternoon, with Queen Elizabeth also leaving that evening on a shorter Alaska roundtrip. Those posted hours are not a substitute for your boarding pass. If the inspection or the second ship’s movement slips, Carnival can still hold the appointment system while it keeps the published sailing. Plan the curb for the appointment, and plan the gangway for the pass.
How to Time a Pier 91 Arrival
Online check-in is where the appointment is chosen. Once that window is set, build the rest of the day backward from it, not from a generic “be at the port by 11.” Sea-Tac to Pier 91 is roughly 15 miles. In light traffic that can be a half hour. In a Thursday morning rush it can double.
A flight that lands at 9 a.m. on sailing day is a miss-the-ship risk even when the terminal is calm. This notice makes a same-day inbound worse, because an early airport arrival does not give you the right to stand in the terminal early.
The useful sequence is hotel first, appointment second, bags third. Stay the night of September 16 in Seattle if you are not already local. Eat and wait in the hotel or a nearby cafe until the window opens. Then go to Pier 91, hand tagged bags to orange-vest porters, and keep documents on you. If you are earlier than the window, do not argue the curb. Leave, burn 20 to 40 minutes, and come back. That loop is cheaper than a refused entry that collides with the inspection.
Parking at Smith Cove is prepaid and priced by sailing length. Economy, standard, and premium lots fill on double-ship days. If you are driving, book the lot with the appointment in mind rather than arriving at dawn to “get a space.” Rideshare drop-off still has to match the window. Tell the driver Smith Cove Cruise Terminal, Pier 91, and the appointment hour, not “Seattle cruise port.”
The Last Alaska Sailing, Then Galveston
The September 17 voyage is a 9-night Alaska roundtrip. Cruise Hive lists calls at Ketchikan, Sitka, Skagway, Juneau, and Victoria, with scenic cruising in Endicott Arm, returning to Seattle on September 26. Tracy Arm is not on this year’s Carnival Alaska product. The line pulled that fjord earlier in 2026 after geological problems, a change Deep Arrival covered in Carnival’s Tracy Arm reroute. Do not pack or book shore time as if Sawyer Glacier viewing is still on the ticket.
After the September 26 return, Carnival Miracle leaves Seattle the same day on a 16-night Panama Canal repositioning to Galveston, with published calls that include Cabo San Lucas, Puntarenas, and Cartagena and an October 12 arrival in Texas. From Galveston the ship is slated for Caribbean itineraries into spring 2027. Guests on the Alaska sailing are not automatically on that canal voyage. The overlap that matters for September 17 is operational: the ship is closing Alaska, the pier is hosting another departure, and the inspection is routine but not optional.
If you are on the canal cruise instead, your Seattle day is September 26, not September 17. Do not reuse this appointment notice. Watch for a fresh Carnival message as the ship turns around. The Alaska guests disembarking that morning and the canal guests arriving the same afternoon will share the same terminal in a different pattern.
Boarding Pass Times Still Govern Departure
Carnival has used the same early-arrival language on other busy days, including a recent Carnival Venezia reminder at Manhattan Cruise Terminal. The pattern is consistent. The line would rather bounce people at the curb than clog security, luggage, and the gangway while an inspection or a second ship is in the same building. It is not a new embarkation product. It is a volume control for one dated sailing.
What the notice does not do is excuse a late arrival. If traffic, a Sea-Tac delay, or a wrong-pier drop makes you miss the window, you still have to make the boarding-pass cutoff. Build slack in front of the appointment, not after it. Keep Carnival’s app and the emailed appointment screenshot offline. If the line revises windows, that message, not a port blog, is the update that counts.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Hold a Sept 17 Pier 91 appointment | Arrive inside that window only. Early guests are sent away. |
| Land at Sea-Tac on sailing day | Book a September 16 hotel. Early airport arrival does not open the terminal early. |
| Stay downtown or near Pier 66 | Ride to Interbay. Carnival uses Smith Cove Pier 91, not Bell Street. |
| Booked the Sept 26 canal sailing | Ignore this Alaska-day notice. Wait for that turnaround’s own Carnival message. |
September 11 is the rule date. Carnival’s guest notice already applies to the September 17 appointment. Do not treat Pier 91 as a first-come lobby.
September 17 is boarding day. Be inside the assigned window, at Pier 91, with documents on you. The boarding pass still sets the onboard cutoff.
September 26 is a different sailing. The Panama Canal repositioning from Seattle is not covered by this Alaska-day notice.
Can I arrive early at Pier 91 for Carnival Miracle on September 17?
No. Carnival’s September 11 notice says guests who arrive before their assigned Terminal Arrival Appointment will be asked to return in their designated window.
Which Seattle terminal does Carnival Miracle use?
Smith Cove Cruise Terminal at Pier 91. Pier 66 on the downtown waterfront is a different terminal used by other lines.
Why is September 17 busier than a normal Seattle embarkation?
Carnival says guest volume will be higher because another ship shares Pier 91 and a routine U.S. Coast Guard inspection is scheduled the same day.
Did Carnival change the ship’s departure time?
No. Cruise Hive reports that Carnival has not announced a change to the scheduled departure. Be on board by the time on your boarding pass.
