Capital One miles convert to British Airways Avios at a 20% bonus this month, so 1,000 miles become 1,200 Avios instead of the usual 1,000. The reporting disagrees on the end date: Frequent Miler says the offer ends at 11:59 PM Eastern on Oct. 21, 2026, while One Mile at a Time and LoyaltyLobby both say Oct. 31.
Because the operator’s own terms were not readable, treat Oct. 21 as the safe deadline and confirm the date in your Capital One account before you transfer. Our report on the earlier Capital One bonus to Japan Airlines covers how these limited windows have run.
- Offer: 20% bonus on Capital One miles sent to British Airways Avios.
- Rate: 1,000 miles become 1,200 Avios.
- Deadline: Oct. 21 per Frequent Miler, Oct. 31 per two other outlets.
- Limits: no registration and no cap on bonus points, according to One Mile at a Time.
- Speed: transfers to British Airways are generally instant.
Two Deadlines, One Safe Date
One Mile at a Time and LoyaltyLobby both describe a promotion that started Oct. 1 and runs through Oct. 31. Frequent Miler instead quotes an end of 11:59 PM Eastern on Oct. 21 and points readers to their Capital One account for full terms.
When outlets disagree, the earlier date costs you nothing and the later date can cost you the bonus. If you plan to transfer, do it by Oct. 21 and check the bonus line on the Capital One transfer screen before you confirm.
The 20% Bonus Turns 1,000 Miles Into 1,200
The usual Capital One to British Airways rate is 1 to 1, and the bonus makes it 1,000 to 1,200. One Mile at a Time says the bonus posts at the same time as the standard transfer and that there is no limit on how many bonus points you can earn.
As illustrative arithmetic, not a quote, 50,000 Capital One miles would become 60,000 Avios during the promotion, an extra 10,000. The same outlet notes the bonus is applied on Capital One’s side, so you should see it when you transfer.
Avios Move Between Five Airline Programs
Avios moves between British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair and Qatar Airways, according to One Mile at a Time, so the bonus is not limited to British Airways flights. Frequent Miler adds that Avios can also move to Loganair.
Frequent Miler points to business class to Madrid on Iberia from 40,500 Avios one way off-peak from New York, Boston, Chicago or Washington, and to business class between the United States and Doha on Qatar Airways for 70,000 Avios with minimal surcharges. As illustrative arithmetic, covering a 40,500 Avios award would take about 33,750 Capital One miles at the bonus rate.
Fuel Surcharges and Other Costs
Both Frequent Miler and LoyaltyLobby warn that British Airways adds heavy fuel and carrier surcharges when you fly its own aircraft in long-haul premium cabins. Frequent Miler suggests keeping Avios for partner airlines or Iberia, where surcharges are lower.
Frequent Miler also notes that Avios expire after 36 months with no activity and that buying Avios does not count as airfare. Check the cash cost of an award, not only the points price, before you move miles.
A 20% Bonus Suits Only Planned Awards
One Mile at a Time says Capital One last offered a 20% bonus to British Airways around the same time last year, and calls this as good as it gets for that route. Frequent Miler says it is weaker than the 30% to 40% bonuses often seen from American Express and Chase.
Both warn against moving miles without a plan, since bonuses recur. If you hold more Capital One miles than points in other programs and have an award in mind, the bonus can make sense. Otherwise keep your miles flexible.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Have an Avios award in mind | Transfer by Oct. 21 to collect the 20% bonus safely. |
| Have no specific award | Keep your Capital One miles flexible and skip the transfer. |
| Want Qatar or Iberia awards | Move Avios to that program after the transfer lands. |
| Hold Amex or Chase points too | Compare their usual 30% to 40% Avios bonuses first. |
| Plan to fly British Airways long haul | Check the surcharges on the exact award before moving miles. |
Oct. 21 is the safe date. One outlet ends the offer then, and two others say Oct. 31.
The bonus is 20%. A transfer of 1,000 miles returns 1,200 Avios.
Surcharges still apply. British Airways flights can carry heavy fuel and carrier charges.
