American Express Platinum Card members lose access to Lufthansa lounges on Thursday, October 1. American Express’s own lounge listings now carry the notice: “Effective October 1, 2026, eligible Card Members will no longer have access to Lufthansa Lounges.” That makes Wednesday, September 30, the last day to use the benefit.
The change also ends Lufthansa First Class lounge access for Centurion Card members. If your trip runs through Frankfurt or Munich, our report on the new Amex Centurion Lounge in Amsterdam covers one of the card’s newer European options.
- Who: Amex Platinum and Centurion Card members.
- What ends: access to Lufthansa Business, Senator and, for Centurion, First Class lounges.
- Last day: Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
- From: Thursday, October 1, 2026, no access through the card.
- Still yours: lounge access that comes with a Lufthansa Group business or first class ticket, or airline elite status.
Lufthansa Business and Senator Access Ends October 1
Until the end of September, American Express’s Lufthansa page lists two tiers for Platinum Card members: Lufthansa Business Lounges regardless of Lufthansa Group ticket class, and Lufthansa Senator Lounges when flying Lufthansa Group business class. Centurion members get Lufthansa First Class, Senator and Business lounges regardless of ticket class. Entry requires the card, a government photo ID and a same day Lufthansa Group boarding pass.
The benefit had grown this year. In February, LoyaltyLobby reported that access was extended to same day flights on any Lufthansa Group airline, including Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Edelweiss and Discover, and to Lufthansa lounges at more German airports than Frankfurt and Munich. All of that ends on October 1.
Economy Flyers Lose the Most
The biggest loss is for travelers in economy. A Platinum member flying Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian in economy can use a Lufthansa Business Lounge through September 30, and from October 1 they cannot, unless they hold airline status that grants access.
Business class passengers keep lounge access through their ticket, but Frequent Miler noted that they lose the step up to the Senator Lounge that the card provided. Centurion members lose the First Class lounges that the card opened regardless of cabin.
The cut is not new. In April, One Mile at a Time and Frequent Miler reported that the end date had appeared in the terms of Amex’s lounge program. The notice on each Lufthansa lounge listing is now the clearest confirmation for cardholders checking before a trip, and it applies to authorized users too, since Frequent Miler noted the benefit extended to them.
What Amex Lounge Options Remain
The Platinum Card still includes the American Express Global Lounge Collection, which covers Centurion Lounges and partner networks. American Express tells members to check the current list in the Amex app or at americanexpress.com/findalounge, and notes that participating lounges and locations can change.
Before a Frankfurt or Munich connection after October 1, search your departure airport in the app. Options vary by airport and terminal, so do not assume the lounge you used before will let you in. If you are flying Lufthansa Group long haul in business class, your ticket still covers the lounge, so the change matters most when you fly economy.
What to Do Before September 30
If you fly a Lufthansa Group airline on or before September 30, you can still use the lounges under the old rules. Bring the physical card, your ID and a same day boarding pass. The Amex listing for the Munich lounge also says companions are not allowed at that location.
For trips from October 1, plan your airport time without the Lufthansa lounge. If lounge access matters on a long connection, compare the cost of a lounge day pass, an upgrade to business class, or a card whose lounge network covers your route.
| If you… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Fly Lufthansa Group by Sept 30 | Use the lounge with your Platinum card, ID and boarding pass. |
| Fly economy from Oct 1 | Plan without Lufthansa lounge access unless you have airline status. |
| Fly business class from Oct 1 | Your ticket still gets you in; the Senator step up ends. |
| Hold a Centurion Card | First Class lounge access through the card ends Oct 1. |
| Connect in Frankfurt or Munich | Check the Amex app for other lounges at your terminal. |
