Air France Opens a 29,000 Square Foot Lounge at JFK

Air France will open a lounge of more than 29,000 square feet at John F. Kennedy International Airport’s New Terminal One, the largest lounge in its international network. The airline announced it on September 15, 2026, alongside a bigger operational change: every Air France flight at JFK moves to the new terminal next year.

Two levels, seating for more than 400 people, and a named exclusion in the footnotes that decides whether your ticket gets you in. Our Air France guide covers how the carrier’s fare tiers work, because on this lounge the fare tier is the whole question.

At a Glance
  • Size: More than 29,000 square feet over two levels, seating for more than 400.
  • Where: New Terminal One at JFK, which Air France moves all its JFK flights into next year.
  • When: Air France says next year. AeroTime reports the lounge serving passengers from the first quarter of 2027.
  • Who gets in: La Premiere and Business customers, Flying Blue Elite Plus members, and eligible KLM and SkyTeam partner travelers.
  • Who does not: Business Light fares, excluded in the release’s own footnote.

The Footnote Is the Part That Decides Your Trip

The access list reads generously until you reach the asterisk. Business customers are welcome, the release says, and then marks that line “excluding Business Light fares”.

Business Light is Air France’s stripped transatlantic business fare, the one that trades flexibility and extras for a lower price. On this lounge it also trades away the lounge.

That matters because a 29,000 square foot lounge is exactly the kind of thing a traveler uses to justify paying up. If the upgrade you are pricing is Business Light, the lounge is not part of what you are buying, and the release says so in the smallest type on the page.

One Air France Ticket, Two JFK Terminals

The lounge is the headline, but the terminal change is the thing that alters a booked itinerary. Air France is moving all of its JFK flying into the New Terminal One, and AeroTime reports that Delta will continue to operate from Terminal 4.

Air France sells up to three daily JFK to Paris flights that Delta actually operates, under the transatlantic joint venture. Those depart from a different building. We tracked which airlines are moving into the New Terminal One and what to check when the building opened.

So an Air France ticket at JFK will no longer mean a single terminal. Check the operating carrier on the confirmation, not the code on the ticket, and budget for an inter-terminal transfer if the two halves of a connection do not match.

What Air France Is Putting Inside

The lounge was designed by Air France teams with the agency MARKS Brandimage. It carries dining areas built around French gastronomy and a bar with a French wine and champagne list.

There are dedicated areas for beauty treatments, relaxation and work. Flying Blue Ultimate members, the program’s top tier, get a reserved space of their own inside the lounge.

La Premiere passengers get a further private area with a menu created for them by a French chef the airline has not yet named. That is three tiers of separation inside one room, which is the current direction of travel for European flagship lounges.

Eleven Daily Flights Explain the Size

Nicolas Henin, senior vice president for North America at Air France-KLM, tied it to scale and to an anniversary, calling New York “one of Air France’s most important and iconic markets” in a year the airline marks 80 years of serving the city.

The numbers behind that are in the same release. Air France operates up to 11 daily flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle and New York in summer, split between JFK and Newark, with up to six of them into JFK, four flown by Boeing 777-300ERs carrying the new La Premiere cabin.

Jennifer Aument, chief executive of the New Terminal One, framed Air France’s spending as a signal, saying the investment in “our terminal’s biggest lounge represents a strong vote of confidence”. The terminal is an anchor of the Port Authority’s $19 billion rebuild of JFK.

What Has Not Been Published

No opening date. The airline says next year and the trade reporting says the first quarter of 2027, which is a quarter, not a day.

No word on whether paid access will be sold, no hours, and no confirmation of which other SkyTeam carriers at the terminal will send passengers to it. The release says eligible KLM and SkyTeam partner travelers, and leaves eligible undefined.

For a trip inside 2026 none of this applies yet. For a transatlantic booking in the back half of 2027, it is worth a second look at the fare class before you book.

Decision Matrix
If you… What to do
Are pricing a Business Light fare to Paris for 2027 Assume no lounge. The exclusion is explicit in the announcement.
Hold Flying Blue Elite Plus You are on the published access list regardless of cabin.
Have an Air France ticket flown by Delta Check the operating carrier. Delta stays at Terminal 4 while Air France moves to the New Terminal One.
Are flying Air France from JFK this year Nothing changes yet. The move and the lounge are both next year.
Planning Impact

The fare class is the gate. On this lounge, Business and Business Light are not the same product, and the difference is not visible on a fare comparison screen.

One airline, two terminals. Once the move happens, an Air France codeshare at JFK can depart from either the New Terminal One or Terminal 4 depending on who operates it.

Treat the quarter as a quarter. First quarter 2027 is a window, not a date. Do not build a connection around the lounge being open.
