Choose the part of Los Angeles you will use most. The city is not one walkable center, and crossing between beach, Hollywood, Downtown, and theme parks can consume a large part of a day.

Getting around
How a Los Angeles base changes the route
Metro now serves key corridors and LAX connections continue to evolve. Use current official Metro and airport tools for the exact route before booking.
If you stay in Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a destination base for a beach focused trip. It is not a central shortcut to every Los Angeles attraction, so group Westside days together.
If you stay in West Hollywood
West Hollywood is a flexible food and nightlife base, especially for Hollywood and Beverly Hills plans. It still needs rides or driving for most distant attractions.
If you stay in Hollywood
Hollywood works when the entertainment district and nearby studios lead. It is less compelling when the itinerary is mostly coastal, Downtown, or south Los Angeles.
If you stay in Downtown Los Angeles
Downtown is the strongest base for Union Station, major venues, and several rail lines. It adds distance to beach and Westside days, so use it for a city centered plan.
If you stay in Los Feliz and Griffith Park
Los Feliz suits a slower central Los Angeles stay and park time. It is not a central base for a beach first trip, so avoid daily coast crossings.
If you stay in El Segundo and LAX area
This is an airport and South Bay base, not a citywide compromise. It is most useful for an arrival or departure night or a beach and airport focused short stay.
