Antigua coast and harbor base chooser
Where to Stay in Antigua
Dickenson and Runaway Bay provide the most familiar northwestern beach setup, the capital puts city life and the cruise waterfront close, and Five Islands feels more secluded. Jolly Harbour favors west-coast convenience, English Harbour centers sailing and heritage, while Long Bay and the east coast create a quieter resort-led escape.

Where should you stay? Start with the trip.
Antigua's lodging is distributed around distinct bays rather than one central resort strip. Choose whether the trip should favor a lively beach, capital access, a secluded west-coast cove, marina convenience, sailing heritage, or the quieter east before choosing a property.

Getting around
How an Antigua base changes the trip
Antigua's international airport sits in the north, while the main lodging bays spread around the coast. Approved airport taxis, private transfers, and rental cars support different plans, but travelers should confirm the exact property transfer, road, and parking setup before booking.
If you stay in Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay
Dickenson and Runaway Bay keep a classic beach routine close and reduce the journey to the capital and airport. They are less aligned with repeated English Harbour and far-south outings, which still require cross-island drives.
If you stay in St. John's and Fort James
The capital base makes its markets, museums, and cruise waterfront easiest to reach and sits relatively close to the airport. The city is not a substitute for a beachfront resort base, so beach time requires a specific coast plan.
If you stay in Five Islands and Hawksbill Coast
Five Islands and the Hawksbill coast favor a settle-in retreat with beach and resort time close. Dining and errands may depend on the property or a vehicle, so this base works poorly when spontaneous islandwide movement is the priority.
If you stay in Jolly Harbour and West Coast
Jolly Harbour offers one of Antigua's more self-sufficient coastal setups, with marina, beach, dining, and shopping close together. English Harbour and the airport remain separate drives, so it is best when west-coast days dominate.
If you stay in English Harbour and Falmouth
English Harbour and Falmouth concentrate sailing, marina life, restaurants, and the UNESCO-listed dockyard landscape. They sit far from the northern airport and northwest resorts, while the nearest beach experience depends on the exact lodging pocket.
If you stay in Long Bay and East Coast
Long Bay and the east coast encourage a resort-centered rhythm and make eastern coves the natural daily focus. The capital, Jolly Harbour, and English Harbour require deliberate trips, so transport should be arranged before arrival.
