Wicked 2024 Filming Locations in England
Wicked is set in the fictional land of Oz, but the 2024 movie used English landscapes, large production backlots, flower fields, and studios. Seven Sisters is the best public anchor, while Ivinghoe and Norfolk require separate regional branches. Do not chase a surviving Oz set. East Sussex offers a real landscape visit; backlots, working studios and seasonal fields have different access rules.
Start here
Best public location
Best public location: Seven Sisters Country Park and the Cuckmere River provide the clearest documented landscape visit. Route structure: Use East Sussex, Ivinghoe, and Norfolk as separate branches rather than one compressed day. What not to route: The Ivinghoe production backlot was reported under dismantling and was never a public film attraction. The guide below separates title evidence, current visitor permission, and route logic so the trip remains useful even when a controlled stop is unavailable.

What you can visit, and what to leave off the route
| Place | Production role | Status and cluster | Current action | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cuckmere River, Seven Sisters Country Park | The river landscape carried Elphaba and Nessa toward Shiz and appears in the film's East Sussex exterior work | Conditional public stop East Sussex landscape |
public paths, safety limits | |
| Seven Sisters chalk cliffs | The coast appears prominently in the opening geography and supplies the film's sweeping Oz landscape | Conditional public stop East Sussex landscape |

| Ivinghoe production area | A large backlot near the village held Munchkinland, Shiz, and the Yellow Brick Road builds | Private or excluded Separate regional context |

| Ivinghoe village | The public village is useful regional context, but it should not be presented as a surviving Munchkinland attraction | Exact public stop Separate regional context |

| Ivinghoe Beacon | A public Chiltern Hills viewpoint near the production area that adds a legitimate walk without claiming an exact Wicked camera point | Broad production region Separate regional context |

Traveler task
Recheck the rule that controls each stop
A title-specific source establishes why a place appears here. The current owner, operator, or public authority determines whether the visit can happen now.
- Begin the East Sussex branch at the Seven Sisters visitor area and read the current coast and river warnings
- Follow a signed path toward a safe Cuckmere River viewpoint without attempting a river-mouth crossing
- Continue only as far as weather, tide, daylight, and walking ability safely allow
- Plan Ivinghoe as a separate Buckinghamshire branch for village context and an optional Beacon walk
- Plan Belmont Nurseries as a separate Norfolk branch only during an official visitor opening
- Keep Sky Studios Elstree, Leavesden stages, and the nonpublic backlot off the visitor itinerary
Do this now: Open the cited operator pages on the travel day and remove any stop whose hours, route, safety status, or permission cannot be confirmed.
Fact check
Keep the production record separate from the story world
Filmed in
East Sussex, Ivinghoe, Norfolk and English production studios Seven Sisters Country Park and the Cuckmere River provide the clearest documented landscape visit.
Set in
Fictional Oz, Shiz and Munchkinland East Sussex, Buckinghamshire, and Norfolk need separate trip branches.
The page withholds exact pins, private approaches, studio access, and surviving-set claims whenever authoritative evidence or current permission is absent.
Route shape
Choose the route cluster that can stand on its own
Film editing compresses real geography. Choose one independently worthwhile cluster, verify its current controls, and avoid converting distant or private production facts into a single checklist.
-
East Sussex landscape
Order: Cuckmere River public paths and safe Seven Sisters viewpoints.
Transfer: Choose a marked walk suited to weather and daylight; no scene match justifies approaching a cliff edge.
Current check: Check park safety advice, weather, river conditions and current path restrictions.
-
Separate regional context
Order: Public Ivinghoe walking context or Norfolk tulips only during an announced visitor season.
Transfer: These regions need separate travel plans; they are not neighboring stops on a Seven Sisters walk.
Current check: No backlot or studio tour is promised; check the tulip operator before planning any seasonal visit.
Best single stop: Seven Sisters Country Park public paths
Time reality: One East Sussex walking day; Ivinghoe and Norfolk are separate branches
Route reality: Do not chase a surviving Oz set. East Sussex offers a real landscape visit; backlots, working studios and seasonal fields have different access rules.
Scene to place guide
Plan your visit
Separate Oz from England
Oz, Shiz University, and Munchkinland are fictional. The 2024 film combined English landscapes with large constructed sets, meaning the visitor experience is strongest where a real public landscape has a documented production role.
Use Seven Sisters as the core
VisitBritain identifies Seven Sisters Country Park as a major opening location and places Glinda's arrival near the Cuckmere River. It offers the clearest combination of screen recognition, public access, and independent travel value.
Treat the cliffs as hazardous terrain
The park warns that chalk falls are unpredictable and directs visitors to stay on paths and at least five metres from cliff edges and bases. Weather and tide checks are essential, and the Cuckmere River mouth is not a safe shortcut.
Read the river as production geography
Filming in England identifies the Cuckmere River as the waterway used for Elphaba and Nessa's approach to Shiz. A public viewpoint can match the broad landscape, but Shiz itself depended on constructed production design.
Keep Ivinghoe in its own branch
A large backlot near Ivinghoe held Munchkinland, Shiz, and the Yellow Brick Road. Local Democracy Reporting says the production company began dismantling the set and chose removal after weather damage, so do not plan a visit around surviving Oz structures.
Time Norfolk to the flowers
VisitBritain says Belmont Nurseries grew nine million tulips for the film and opens its fields to visitors for a limited spring period. This is a separate Norfolk journey and requires operator confirmation, not an assumed year-round stop.
Understand the studio share
Sky Studios Elstree says both films were shot on its stages with huge detailed sets. Filming in England also records work at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which reinforces that many recognizable places cannot be visited as real-world locations.
Choose one branch per day
East Sussex, Buckinghamshire, and Norfolk are not adjacent stops. A useful trip chooses one geographic branch, adds local attractions and meals, and avoids turning several hours of driving into a misleading filming-location trail.
Photograph without recreating risk
The best coastal image comes from a signed viewpoint and a stable path, not a cliff edge or river crossing. At farms and villages, follow access signs, avoid blocking work, and leave production parcels alone.
Recheck version and access
This page is limited to the 2024 film, even though both parts shared production infrastructure. Recheck park notices, seasonal tulip openings, local parking rules, and any new official location disclosure before travel.
Before leaving, check the linked visitor pages and choose an alternative public stop if a closure or access restriction changes the plan.

Planning questions
Common questions before you go
Where was Wicked 2024 filmed?
Wicked used Seven Sisters and the Cuckmere River in East Sussex, a backlot near Ivinghoe, tulip fields at Belmont Nurseries in Norfolk, and major studio stages at Elstree and Leavesden.
Can you visit the Wicked cliffs?
Yes. Seven Sisters Country Park is public, but visitors must follow current weather, tide, path, cliff, and river safety guidance.
Is Munchkinland still standing near Ivinghoe?
No public Munchkinland attraction is established. Local reporting documented the production dismantling the Ivinghoe set.
Can you visit the Wicked tulip fields?
VisitBritain describes a limited spring visitor period at Belmont Nurseries. Confirm the current season and booking rules with the operator before making the Norfolk trip.
Can all the Wicked locations be visited in one day?
No practical one-day route should combine East Sussex, Ivinghoe, and Norfolk. Choose one branch and treat the studios as production context only.
