What matters first

Whitehall is a timed decision even when walk up tickets exist because the preservation closure and first floor tours change the practical day.

Ticket and booking

Admission is $28 for adults 13 and over, $14 for children 6 to 12, and free for children 5 and under. Members enter free, and walk up tickets are available during regular hours through the operator.

Hours, closure and photo

Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday noon to 5pm; the museum is closed Monday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. A separate last admission time is not posted, and the homepage lists a preservation closure from September 29 through October 5, 2026.

Route, arrival and access

Allow about 90 minutes for Whitehall rooms, or 2 to 3 hours when adding the second floor, grounds and Pavilion. Free parking is available during museum hours, with lot entrances on Cocoanut Row and Whitehall Way.

Decision system

The planning sequence

Choose the Whitehall rooms first, then add the second floor and Railcar 91 only if the date and access plan support them.

Choose the Whitehall scope

The railcar changes the museum route

Whitehall first gives the strongest short visit, while Railcar 91 adds a separate Flagler transportation story.

Keep visitor photos handheld and flash-free, and follow any no-photography sign in a special exhibition.

Protect the date before the room list

The homepage currently announces closure from September 29 through October 5, 2026 for preservation. Recheck the banner before paying because a normal ticket cannot override a closure.

Start at Whitehall Facade

The exterior establishes Whitehall as Henry Flagler’s 1902 Palm Beach estate. From there move directly to the Grand Hall, where the double stair and marble explain the house scale.

Use the first floor sequence

The Italian Renaissance Library served as Flagler's business reception room; its plaster-and-fabric ceiling imitates beams and leather, while family portraits and Martin Johnson Heade's Great Florida Marsh connect commerce, family and patronage. The Music Room's 1,249-pipe Odell organ, movable furniture and art-gallery use show how performance, clubs and display shared one room.

Finish the first floor in the Grand Ballroom

Fifteen painted lunettes and Baccarat crystal chandeliers turn the Louis XV room into Whitehall's ceremonial climax. The room hosted the 1903 Bal Poudré, linking its decoration to the estate's social life rather than treating it as a backdrop.

Add the second floor with intention

The Flagler Kenan History Room, Colonial Chamber, Guest Bedrooms and Master Bedroom and Bathroom turn the visit toward private life and interpretation. Allow extra standing and stairs.

Make the Pavilion a separate decision

The Flagler Kenan Pavilion is an 8,100 square foot railway palace style building. Railcar 91 carries the route from Whitehall into Flagler’s railroad history, with salon, bedroom, kitchen and guest spaces.

Choose docent or self guided interpretation

Included docent tours have a 35 person limit and fixed times. The audio wand, app and printed brochures let a self guided visitor move at a different pace.

Use the access alternatives

Accessible parking, a south entrance, ramps and elevator support the main visit. The operator provides an alternative video outside the Railcar for visitors unable to board.

Plan the Palm Beach arrival

Free parking is available in the museum lot during museum hours. Enter from Cocoanut Row or Whitehall Way and use One Whitehall Way for the destination.

Keep the photo rule separate

Personal handheld photos are allowed, though some special exhibitions prohibit photography. Flash, tripods and support equipment are prohibited.

Close with the route choice

Choose the first floor for a compact Whitehall visit, the second floor for domestic context, or the Pavilion for Railcar 91. The closure notice decides whether any route can run.

Planning traps

Mistakes to avoid

These errors create a closed door, a missed tour or an avoidable access problem.

1. Ignoring the September preservation closure

The current homepage says the museum is closed Tuesday September 29 through Monday October 5, 2026. Recheck the notice before travel.

2. Using the city card price as the ticket source

The West Palm Beach city page is related context. Use the Flagler Museum visitor page and ticket portal for the current $28 and $14 prices.

3. Arriving for a docent tour without a time buffer

Docent tours have fixed times and a 35 person limit. Arrive early and keep self guided materials as the fallback.

4. Treating the museum and Pavilion as one room sequence

Railcar 91 is in the separate Flagler Kenan Pavilion. Budget the additional building and route.

5. Assuming the railcar is fully step free

The operator provides an alternative video for visitors unable to board. Ask staff before choosing the Pavilion route.

6. Using a tripod or planning a portrait session

Flash, tripods and support equipment are not allowed. Keep visitor photos handheld and follow special-exhibition signs.
