Can You Bring Mixers on a Cruise?

Non-alcoholic mixers only, in cans. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity and Virgin let you carry limited non-alcoholic drinks aboard on embarkation day; Norwegian, MSC and Holland America do not. Bottles are banned on most lines, so dry mix packets travel best.

The official word

Straight from the source

“Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in glass or plastic bottles.”

Carnival Cruise Line beverage policy, July 2026

Before you board

Three calls that matter

Cans and cartons, not bottles

Carnival prohibits non-alcoholic drinks packaged in glass or plastic bottles, and Princess and Virgin limit you to cans and boxes. Buy your mixers in cans.

Dry packets are easier

Powdered mixes are not beverages in a can, so they generally fall under pre-packaged food rules instead of the drink count. They also weigh almost nothing.

Never hide alcohol in mixers

Security inspects containers at the terminal. Using a mixer bottle to conceal spirits risks confiscation and a conduct violation, not just a lost drink.

Sailing tip: pack dry mix packets and buy the soda onboard, since cans count against your allowance and bottles usually get pulled. More in our cruise guides.
