Before you board

Three calls that matter

They follow soda rules

Energy drinks ride along with the non-alcoholic can allowance on most lines. Carnival names them outright, while Holland America bans them in any form.

Cans in your carry-on

Bring cans or cartons, not bottles, and keep them in the bag you carry on yourself. Carnival, Princess and Virgin cap it at 12 sealed cans of 12 ounces or less per person.

Buy them onboard instead

Carnival’s CHEERS! package includes energy drinks and ship bars sell them. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity sell refreshment packages that cover sodas.

Sailing tip: split a 12 pack across two carry-on bags so the weight is manageable at the terminal. More in our cruise guides.
