Before the checkpoint

Three calls that matter

The three safe razors

Disposable, cartridge, and electric razors all clear the checkpoint with no fuss.

The blade rule

Any blade you can pop out by hand, like a safety razor blade, belongs in checked baggage.

Cap the head

A blade guard keeps the edge from snagging a screener’s glove or the inside of your bag.

Travel razor pick: a capped cartridge razor is the simplest carry-on choice. More in the gear library.

FAQ

Quick answers

Can you bring a razor on a plane?
Yes. Disposable, cartridge, and electric razors are allowed in carry-on and checked bags. Only loose safety-razor or straight-razor blades must go in checked luggage.
Can disposable razors go in carry-on luggage?
Yes. The blade is sealed in plastic, so disposable and cartridge razors are fine in your carry-on.
Can safety razor blades go in a carry-on?
No. Because the blade slides out easily, it has to travel in checked baggage. The razor handle itself is allowed in carry-on.
What razor is easiest for flying?
A cartridge razor or an electric razor. Both clear security in either bag with no blade to remove.
